  1. To the seniors graduating this year, do not walk away from this sport. Everyone who has ever wrestled understands it’s one of the best sports ever, and that it’s importance goes beyond what we see on the mat for competitions. Wherever you are, we need you in order to keep this sport alive in our great nation. I call on you to take the initiative to become a wrestling official! Talk to a wrestling official in your local area or contact your local officials association to start the process. Our referee numbers are dwindling. Without young men and women like you stepping up to become referees, we see the end of this sport within a generation https://form.jotform.com/240504711048043

Wrestling Officials Needed for 2023-24 season

Soccer games are starting to be canceled across the state due to the low number of officials. Lets not let this happen to wrestling. You can register for your liscense at https://khsaa.arbitersports.com From a soccer assignor in Western KY: This is breaking news for many but at the same time not surprising. I am the Assigning Secretary for Region 1&2 for High School Soccer. This week due to the lack of number of officials and lots of games being scheduled, games will be canceled. Monday 3 games for one school have been canceled JVB/VB/VG; Tuesday 4 games at 2 schools JVB/VB & JVG/JVB; and Thursday 3 games at 2 Schools JVG/VG & VG. The demand for referees is high for this area and is both physically and mentally demanding. These kids NEED individuals to volunteer and work these High School games. If you are interested please reach out to me. It’s not too late. Feel free to share

Correct youth and middle school are used as training grounds a lot of times. That's were we loose the younger officials

Couldn't agree more on having coaches licensed! I understand the programs that have 1 or 2 coaches. But the ones that have 4 or more, have them get their liscense. Only if they work 1 or 2 events all season it makes it that easier to get events covered. When youth and middle school took off 20 year ago or so we saw a huge decline in younger officials getting on the mats. They went into coaching instead. We need younger officials now more than ever. But we cant have youth, middle, and high school coaches screaming and yelling at them. Running them off and leaving a bad taste in their mouths. There will be multiple events canceled due to lack of officials. Already having a few a season right now. Not looking forward to state.

It seems the sponsorships have gone down in Wrestling. I remember years ago they would sell sponsorships on top of each scoreboard. At $200 a side that would have been an easy extra $2400. I am sure they could sell them for even more. Seems like there could be more sponsorship opportunities it an arena to help offset those costs. I know we are in a digital age but do they even sell programs any more? That was a huge money grab. Every parent would buy one because their kids names were in it

It's because the time requirement is not in the book on bringing a wrestler back to the mat. So should a stall call in the heavy weight finals match happen in regular season but not in the state finals? Just being devils advocate here. People ask for it to be called the same way all season, but when the call is made in the finals match, it shouldn't be called because it's the state finals? I have seen Dennison make that same call all season long, in December, January, and state finals. Thankfully the officials that were working this weekend have all been there before and have called high level matches all season long.

Norms??? I am just stating what the rule book says. People that dont know the rules hear coaches and other fans yell "5 seconds" and assume that's a rule so they start getting loud about it as well. If your interested, we can always use more officials on the mats. Please feel free to fill out information below and get updates on when the new licensing opens, the training opportunities, and clinic. https://www.jotform.com/230434326549052

With the "5 second return" there is nothing in the rules that puts a time on it. The rule states while standing behind the opponent while making no attempt to return. Nothing about a 5 count.

Would love to see everyone on the mat that wants to be an official! Don't complain about the problem, be part of the solution! Get your liscense next season and get out there and bust your but for 12 hour plus days all season. Some times with no extra official to give you a break https://form.jotform.com/230434326549052

    Regional realignment

At the high school level it has been the same amount for at least 20 years. The issue is at middle and youth events. We have our younger officials there and you have coaches(parents) yelling at these kids. This drives away the younger officials. When a kid sees their coach arguing a call with an official that leads them to think it is ok to disrespect an official as well. It has become a generational issue in all sports. EVERY sport is struggling to have officials at youth events because of the way they are treated. You rarely hear of issues at high school events between officials and coaches. This is because the KHSAA holds them accountable and will fine and suspended coaches. USA WRESTLING does the same when they are informed. But if it happens at an event that is not sanctioned (yes there are several middle school and youth events that are not in this state) there is no one to hold that coach accountable.

The one entrance to the floor is great. Keeps people from trying to get down there that shouldn't be. Seems like the internet was AT&T phones. Everyone I seen that was able to pull up Track had Verizon or another carrier.

    Regional realignment

Corbin is big enough to hold a 32 man bracket in 1 day like this year. Finals were over before 6. This is the type of venue that needs to hold these events. Big enough for the crowd, can lay 10 mats down (maybe more of you move the head table) and not on a dirt floor (Horse park) Would be perfect for a 2 day boys and girls high school state championship

    Regional realignment

The biggest issue with adding more regions and Wrestling them all on a Saturday is the amount of officials to cover this event. High school boys/girls will take a big chunk of the pool of officials that weekend. They will be covered first before middle school events will be covered. This season the regions were BARELY covered with officials. A few of them going 12 hour days with only enough officials to cover the mats laid down and no officials to break them. Until we get more officials in this state, middle school regions may need to move to that Sunday to ensure that there are enough qualified officials on those tournaments. Then host the youth the following Sunday and still keep the same 3 weeks of post season that we had this season.
