The biggest issue with adding more regions and Wrestling them all on a Saturday is the amount of officials to cover this event. High school boys/girls will take a big chunk of the pool of officials that weekend. They will be covered first before middle school events will be covered. This season the regions were BARELY covered with officials. A few of them going 12 hour days with only enough officials to cover the mats laid down and no officials to break them. Until we get more officials in this state, middle school regions may need to move to that Sunday to ensure that there are enough qualified officials on those tournaments. Then host the youth the following Sunday and still keep the same 3 weeks of post season that we had this season.

The KHSAA and KWOA is in need for officials this upcoming season. With the growth in women's, middle school and youth wrestling, our official pool has not grown to the same degree. We are seeing it in other sports that tournaments are being canceled through out the season due to lack of officials. Please consider registering at khsaa.org to ensure every kid gets the opportunity to wrestle this season. Only 46 state wide at this point. Several events including middle school on Saturdays will have to be canceled if numbers dont improve. We had around 80 last year and had a few events get canceled due to not having any officials. https://khsaa.org/new_application/

I like your idea of the rankings. The issue we have with recruiting is that no ones to do it anymore. They see the way fans and coaches treat new refs and they would rather not deal with that. In the past years we get a few recent grads for a season and the. They go become a coach. Look at most programs and see how many coaches are in there ranks between youth, middle school, high school, girls...there are a lot of coaches out there at these levels that have been officials for a season or 2. They would rather coach than be belittled by coaches or patents for a low wage.

There are 86 liscensed officials in the WHOLE state of KY. So please do myself and all other officials a favor and get your liscense and join us on the mat since you are a rules expert!
