Yes, you are missing it because this is in the “Youth” section of the messsge boards. If you or anyone else wants to brag about what he or any other “old” 8th grader did then take it to the “High School” section. It’s not that hard to comprehend. Really. Sorry you’re slow and can’t grasp that.

Wow you are really trying to be abrasive. I am not bragging about anyone. Just trying to understand your point. But you keep just trying to make it into a conflict. Some times the topics become intertwined with high school. By the way you were bragging about your grandson making it to high school semi state on this topic correct?  Which you should. It’s something to be proud of too. But should you mention that here or on the high school section by your logic. Lol.

You’re missing the point. That’s what what I’m saying. So what he won his region? He’s gonna be 16 in a few months. HS or MS. Doesn’t matter.
    No my grandson is 120.

I am missing the point I guess. He won his high school region against kids his age and older. I thought your point was he’s not competing against kids his age. At this rate I don’t think i will ever get it I guess. Some days I’m just too slow to keep up. Good luck to your grandson. What semi state will he be at. 1 or 2

Something to be proud of when you beat kids way younger than you (MS)……versus something to be proud of when you beat kids your own age (HS)?? Yeaaaaaaaaaa not so much my man. I honestly got no bones I’m calling it like it is. My grandson is 7th grade and 12 and is going to HS semi state. I’m just being honest and I’m sorry if that offends you bro. Call a spade a spade.

Didn’t say it offended me. Just said it’s something to be proud of. But you seem to be very confrontational. Plus the morris kid also won his region and is going to semi state. I don’t think George can wrestle high school yet. Congrats to your grandson. Is he at 113?

Didn’t say it was a “big deal” did I buddy? LOL But let’s call a spade a spade…..most 8th graders aren’t 15 and nothing to brag about. LOL And literally said it is what it is.

Yeah you are still making it sound like it’s a big deal. Winning a state championship might be a big deal to them. I don’t know. If they want to brag about it they can. It’s something to be proud of.

Unfortunately. George Dennis and James Morris are two examples. 15 now and actually turn 16 this year. It’s a shame in my opinion and nothing to be proud of when you’re wrestling 11, 12, 13 year old kids. But until the powers that be rectify it then it is what it is.

They won’t be 16 this school year. As long as they are within the guidelines set out by the governing body then what’s the big deal?

Didn’t know you were speaking of just KY. My bad man. Then yes grade wise it was. However, age wise there have been some around the same. Raneys were 14 in “7th grade” which is your average age of an 8th grader……which KY has had previous HS state champs in that grade. Subjective to age I suppose. Regardless there needs to be set rules and set criteria.

They are 14 now I believe. I think they were 13 when they won.  Still a huge accomplishment to win a high school state title  eapeciallly when you think about some of the kids that came through the state over the years.

  7. Your top 105 and 113 middle school kids are almost always high school state placers. This year the middle school is just after high school. Also we had our first 7th grader win high school last year. Usually isn’t an issue because middle schools is before high school.  For most of the kids that will place in high school and go back to wrestle middle school it’s so they can try to win a team title.

It should be a separate tournament with no points carried over to the State "Final Round."

Agreed. Coach teeter said they call it semis state and consider it state due to khsaa wanting to increase numbers at the state tournament. Which makes no sense to me. No one considers semi state the same as state. I’m wonder if it changes where the money goes. If the khsaa considers semi state the same tournament state does it mean they get the gate money?  Does it change the profit?

  9. 16 hours ago, coachteater said:

Because the Khsaa does not want to decrease the state entries from 32 to 16. Semi state is technically "state", so it gives 32 kids opportunity to qualify.

Technicality.  If you make it to semi state you made it to semi state not state.  Kids aren’t dumb. They can see there is a difference.

Before they did away with Districts, Region was set up a lot like how Semi-State was set up last year. Two Districts paired together to create a Region. 4 Regions across the state, with top 4 going to State.

Yes except last year was top two instead of top 4. I don’t think anyone would of had a problem with top 4 instead of 2.

  11. Since we decreased the size of state by adding a semi state does anyone know why we didn’t go back to the previous format before they did away with district.

that would have changed the region to a district. Top 4 come out. Then the region would be 2 districts combined. Top 4 come out again.

This would give a 16 man bracket at state without as many rematches. You would still have some cases where the top kids would be in the same district and region but not as much as now.

example. Region 1 and 2 would now be district 1 and 2. Then the region would be made up of district 1 and 2.

This is how it was done when state was in Frankfort. Scoring doesn’t start till state. Not as many rematches in the finals.

It will be the standard USA Wrestling 2022 divisions, ages, weights. Flyer should be out soon. Finalizing weigh-in details/times before the post flyer.

Will it be the USA wrestling weight classes for the 14 u as well. Last year they used Ky middle school weights for that age group. Year before that they called it middle school youth division instead of 14 u and went with middle school weights.

Who do you have in the finals? Most duals are gonna be close. Some depend on who they bring.

Big school should be JC and Ryle in the finals. The biggest match before the finals is Great Crossing vs Trinity. On paper it is going to be a close one. Winner should wrestle JC.

Small school don’t see to have the dramatic match ups. Union wins.

I give that to you but I guess I mean bigger in the fact that seems more high school teams have a feeder team of some kind and years ago that just wasn't the case. Only a few did now those that did your right they might have been better. I agree covid has done a number on middle and youth teams alike. Its hard enough to get through a high school season rather than try and manage a high school and middle at the same time. I believe we would do better if the two seasons were not over lapped but nobody agrees. That way the only matches on Saturdays would be middle school and teams would attend Sundays just dont work for lots of teams for lots of reason. Lets just hope covid ends and things get easier but I just don't see that happening. The smaller programs that run on a tiny staff and little to no school support are going to continue to struggle in covid times.

Ok I’m not following. We don’t have our middle school wrestling sundays now. They wrestle on saturdays. Some times our kids will do youth opens on Sundays. If the seasons didn’t over lap then they would cut into baseball and football season. Which almost all of our kids play 2-3 sports. So that would really cut down the numbers in state.

How does Jacobie White (currently undefeated) from Harrison County who was ranked 16 before these new rankings came out, only move up 2 spots after pinning the #7 kid, Luke Hyden, at 190 but Luke was moved down 7 spots? I’m not saying put him in the top 3 but come on. You’re gonna have to explain this one to me, Ranger.

Has he beat anyone ranked above him?  Or does he have any common opponents?
