As have mentioned the before.  Did you see how track seeded the tournament during COVID.  NOT GOOD.  How do you compare wrestlers, when many wrestle out of state, or a different wt. class etc ect. Going by last years results makes very little sense to me.

Seeding the regional champs I can agree with.  But will that really change much.  Most of the problems happen with the 2nd and 3rd place finishers. Plus moving a kid up one spot or down one spot really doesn't matter much.  (I was one of those who probably would have moved up one if on the other side back in the stone age). I also don't want to see regional teams wrestling in the championship bracket before the semi-finals. Which may happen if you seed everyone regardless the placement at region.

On this one point KHSAA is NOT making a bad decision.

Seeding the ones would fix it. If the second best wrestler in the state is in the same region as the one they go opposite side of the bracket. Then they can prove they’re the second best and we get the best finals. I get boring 1st and 2nd rounds. We are going to have some pins and techs in the finals instead. Not many but a couple brackets have cake walls to the finals with the top 3-4 guys being in the other side.

  2. I understand the issue with teams ducking out of matches for seeding. No one wants to go to a dual and see that. However, that’s a small amount of teams. Really you’re talking about Louisville, Lexington and Northern Ky. Right now Paducah, Union, Great crossing and Johnson Central are all wrestling the majority of their matches out of state. It’s not to avoid competition. It’s to get tougher matches. There is no reason for them to wrestle any instate tournaments. If they did seed the regional champs you might see those teams enter a couple in state tournaments to get criteria not avoid it.

  3. I’ve said all year Ricketts is the man. Talented and has out worked everyone. I know the number 1 got beat but I don’t think it surprised a lot of people. Kid is talented and had a great tournament last year but not on the same level as Ricketts and the other top kids.

    Hall got beat by Dingess.

Strayer and Duke has battled injuries through the last couple years it seems.

James looks really good. Depending on the draw should come down to Ricketts and James.

Yes the goal is to win after all. But interesting match ups in there. Would like to see Boyle/JC/PT all wrestle each other. Matchups make this one wild. They could all split with each other.

    Head to Head

    Common Opponent

    Win %

Teams have to have at least 7 duals to be seeded, PT only had 6 due to snow/cancellations.

    Boyle and HC undefeated

    JC had one loss

PT hasn’t wrestled 7 duals and got the 3. Looks like JC has wrestled a much tougher schedule than Boyle or Harrison. Seems crazy to not take that into account. Discourages teams from going out and wrestling anyone.

Harris is really good. He looks to be a clear favorite. He hasn’t had a close match in Ky.

Pinkston, Faucett, and Hutchison are all unbeaten. Maybe they make it interesting.

I’m excited for the Harris v Pinkston match if it happens. Harris attacks but Pinkston scrambles well. Could make it interesting. But I do believe Harris is the clear favorite.

  7. This is probably the biggest toss up of the state duals. Going to come down to match ups. PT with the upper weights and Boyle with the young middle weights. Harrison has a couple really good lower weights. JC solid throughout but don’t have the big boys they usually have. Boyle and PT in the finals could give us a close dual with very few close matches.

Obviously we saw what will be a state finals match at the Dragon. Kiser with the 8-3 decision over Virzi. Thoughts? Also saw lots of top 10 action at 190 as well. 190 results could look very similar to the state podium. 175 also looks interesting with James dropping, Duke back in action. Would like to see the Duke Strayer rematch.

Kiser beat Virzi twice last year I think then lost in the finals. From a coaching perspective I wouldn’t want to wrestle that match this close to state. From a fan perspective it’s great. But it will come down to the draw. They could meet in the semis.

I still think Ricketts is the man at 175. James looks good. Davis pinned Strayer last year and seems like he has beat him a few times (middle school state).
