Kiser beat Virzi twice last year I think then lost in the finals. From a coaching perspective I wouldn’t want to wrestle that match this close to state. From a fan perspective it’s great. But it will come down to the draw. They could meet in the semis. I still think Ricketts is the man at 175. James looks good. Davis pinned Strayer last year and seems like he has beat him a few times (middle school state).

Are there any additional weight allowance for middle school region this weekend because of the snow and school cacelations?

120 just became the deepest class in the state
PPmothman replied to PPmothman's topic in High School Wrestling
Just as the season has went the top 5-6 kids are solid. 144 was probably the weakest class at one point. Now it’s going to be interesting. -
It’s early I know. Some of these weight classes might shake up a bit. But what are some of the most anticipated match ups at state this year. 106 Valera vs Wells 120 rematch of Blevins vs Dennis 126 Raney vs Evans (if he stays). This might be the best match of the tournament 132 Reeves vs Raney 138 Meyers (i think he will go 138) vs Whorton 144 Johns vs Jenkins 157 Sentelle vs Harris 190 rematch if Kiser vs Virzi (I think he has dropped down)

Yeah there are some tough kids in there and some good match ups. George is obviously very good. Seems to be a lot better on the mat this year. Blevins is always up for a challenge. Smart technical kid. Davis is always dangerous and funky. Smith is strong and tough and JC has been out wrestling some tough out of state teams. Utah is dangerous and with the best program in the state. Nance has also turned it on this year. 120 is deep. I think the draw matters alot this year to see who’s in the finals. Wish they seeded the ones like middle school. -

The way it’s worded is on or prior to that Saturday. So I’m guessing you could make it at state duals -

Have to be certified into the weight on or prior to state duals -
Going to add Evans and George at 120 now.

Kentuckywrestling.com 2023-24 Season Rankings - January 2

I think the next two weeks we will see where everyone goes. There is a rumor that all the Ryle kids are going to drop to get Evans away from Raney. Also PT currently is stacked up. Interesting to see where the two 175s go and 215s go. Virzi could stay at 215 making 190 interesting. Looks like JC has a lot of kids weighing in light. Could see Scott, Smith, Morris and Jude drop. Another Interesting rumor is Raney dropping to 120 and letting Utah go 126. This would be huge. Right now 126 is the deepest class in the state. Raney staying there till 126 clears out then sliding Utah in would be huge. Just some interesting points for entertainment. -

Not according to track. He can’t rank a kid when the coach doesn’t Input the matches. -
There have already been some great early season match ups. Love seeing kids going out and wrestling the best without fear. Leland Reeves beat Dennis George @132 with a score of 3-2 I believe. Anthony Condi beat Ryan Smith 2-0 @126. TJ Meyers beat Keygen Roberts at 138 Not sure about the score. Leland Reeves beat Jonah Mcloskey 8-2 @132. No doubt we will see these kids back on the podium again this year. Iron sharpens iron. What other early season match ups have we had?
-
Rider Trumble beat Isaac Johns. Dennis George beat Anthony Condi. Corbin Nance beat Ethan Davis. Ren Birk beat Brayden Blevins. Jonah Mcloskey beat Rowdy Benner. A lot of kids out there getting after it. I will say it seems that 126 pound class is stacked.

Is Duke at Ryle? He did not wrestle at Raider Rumble and is not on their roster. -

Weight classes are starting to fill out. Now to see Paducah Tilghmans and Johnson Centrals varsity on the mat. Two teams with a lot of football players which means we could see a lot of weight jumps and big cuts. -
When will they announce who got it?
-
Only two Kentucky wrestlers signed up for Super 32 high school division. Lane Kiser from Trinity and Ryan Smith from Johnson Central. Not sure why we don’t have more wrestlers doing what might be the hardest folk style tournament in the country.
-
While I get it can definitely get expensive. It has never cost me 1k buck except Va beach and I make that a mini vacation. I think this weekend will cost less than half that. But still expensive. I just see surrounding states like Indiana and WV putting 30 plus kids in the tournament. I know if you want to wrestle in college Super 32, Va beach and Fargo go a long way. This is probably the cheaper one of the three.
-
Yeah but we had a lot more last year. Just a glance at the current rankings 7-8 of the number one ranked wrestlers don’t play football. So not sure football has a lot to do with it. Additionally I’m sure the surrounding states have a lot of multi sport kids as well.
-
Middle school also has Zac Scott from Johnson County entered it looks like. Not a big showing for Ky. All the neighboring states have far more kids. Even the smaller states.
-
I seen on one of the Facebook groups that Jordyn Raney has accepted a match against Jax Forrest at Flows who’s number one. Can anyone confirm this?
-
Raney lost in ot in what might be one of the best high school matches of all time. If your a wrestling fan you need to go watch on flow.

He just removed the seniors. Also not sure what your talking about I see a lot of NKY kids ranked. -
It’s a lot easier to have finalist singlets in states such as WV and Ohio. They have a true state champion. They know exactly how many state finalist they will have. Ky might have 3-4 brackets for one age and weight class.
-
Because someone didn’t renew broadbent arena and it got booked. Then the rest of the state couldn’t produce a facility big enough. The Pikeville expo center said they would host it free of charge. So that’s what we have.
-
I understand how this is not ideal for teams west of Louisville. We have a hard time getting kids to commit to youth state in Louisville every year because of the distance. I am appreciative to the Pikeville expo center for allowing us to use their facility. Free of charge I believe as well. I’m glad we didn’t get stuck in some high school some where trying to figure out how to run it.
