Right that’s not common. That was at 121 in youth. The 113 and 121 brackets in middle school were crazy deep and I would say alot of those kids could compete in high school.  I also seen a kid a few years ago that didn’t place at 113 in middle school as a 7th grader and got 6th in youth. Came back and won state at 152 as an 8th grader.  I could see your boy winning one of the heavier brackets next year. He’s a very good kid and wrestler.

I was talking to a West Virginia friend this week about how tough our middle school state is.

113 and 121 MS were just crazy tough! A lot of those kids did wrestle HS and did well too. I love the competition and when those younger kids….especially the 7th graders just go and put themselves out there to wrestle HS. Win or lose they’ll be better for it later on.

I'm sure you're very proud of your kid and you have every reason to be, but you don't have to post it on a thread of reasons why we need to fix high school state.

What you said…..and I’ll add my two cents. Don’t come on here and hijack a thread…..especially when this kid is a repeat 8th grader (home schooled but none the less a repeat) and technically shouldn’t have been permitted to wrestle. Also, age wise he turns 16 on August 1st. You can IMO be proud of the hard work but considering you’re wrestling kids you shouldn’t be and kids wayyyyy younger you have nothing to brag about.

Repeat years have always been a no go in Middle School, it's in the By-Laws every head coach signs at the beginning of the season. Covid repeat year or not, a student repeating a grade, is able to wrestle during regular season, non- USA Wrestling events, but are not allowed to participate in Post season or regular season USA wresting events.

I wonder if this has changed and no one was alerted. Wouldn’t be the first time KFWC has done some things under the radar and not anyone know. Any insight?

No sir, the map on the by laws page shows corbin in region 4, but i got a call and removed them from the tournament because corbin was moved at the decision of john Carr the Vice President and Mondell Hunter the President.

Also we have 205 kids but I removed these teams

    corbin moved by president

    hazard no kids

    ckuwc no kids

    perry no kids

Teams with zero kids entered so far, but have replied to my emails

    Appalachian Wrestling

    Woodford

    Winchester

    Mustangs

    Mad South

Say what????????? Since when can two individuals move one team from region to region? I’m so confused and I feel if that’s true that is just another example of how horribly ran KY wrestling is and why it will never grow. Also……….Sure…..let’s charge parents double the price for their kid wrestling at state…..in one of the poorest states in the US. GTFOH

  5. Let’s just be honest and keep it 100. If you are 15 or almost 16, whatever, in MS in 8th grade, like that’s just a shame unless you’re special needs. I get it happens in eastern KY probably more than anywhere in the state but it’s shameful, unless your child legitimately needs an extra year academically. There should be some more criteria for this. But that’s not the fault of the parents it’s fault of the governing body.

Your right, facts are facts, but your statements are opinions. And it’s ok to have opinions. I’m just saying both have been ranked number 1 this season. Both have similar records. And to my knowledge, they have not wrestled each other this season. Hate that Beane got hurt, but to say Andreoni got lucky….I’m not buying it. Coin flip of match really, but I would have put my money on Andreoni.

And that’s the essence of wrestling right dude? Coin flip of a match? Honestly it wouldn’t matter because Goss would’ve  dominated both of them. Let’s be honest.

If he was still overall 1 seed even with injury why did he forfeit out?  If you’re good enough to be 1 seed with injury, there’s a good chance you win.

hope he recovers fully for his senior season!

He forfeited because he was legit injured….INJURED. His matches even furthered his ACL injury. Sad.

Got lucky? How did he get lucky?

Ummmmmmmm. Let me break it down in simpleton term.
Beane……..number one seed even with an ACL injury……..overall number one seed……if he hadn’t been Injured and forfeited out Andreoni wouldn’t be where he is. Facts. Straight facts. I love both kids. They’re both stellar but facts are facts my man.

I watched Indiana’s state finals and it was a party! They started it late and celebrated it. Our semi state finals started about the same time and was viewed as an inconvenience. 1/2 the teams and 3/4 of the fans left. Part of it really is a state of mind. Part of it is a real venue.

Man!!!! That’s what I’m saying. Start late celebrate late. Give me a Corona with lime and I’m good. Helps the old bones man.

I don’t think anybody said that it was illegal to have a 15 year old compete. It’s clear that they are permitted to wrestle middle school level in Kentucky. The difference maker in everyone’s argument is the “held back” factor. Like I said, to each; their own…but holding a kid back that’s literally about to be eligible to get his/her drivers license this year all while potentially wrestling a 4th grader at a KFWC sanctioned event is….well, weird.

Well I can understand that somewhat but here is the way I see it 4th grade is not a middle schooler so why are they there in the first place should only be 6th 7th 8th just like people letting there middle school kid wrestle HighSchool then get on here an try to convince everyone that held there kid back how wrong they are just my opinion

Here is the way MOST people see it…..why is a 15 year old in middle school? LOL LOL Imagine driving to school your freshman year LOL Y’all never cease to amaze me with this.

I am missing the point I guess. He won his high school region against kids his age and older. I thought your point was he’s not competing against kids his age. At this rate I don’t think i will ever get it I guess. Some days I’m just too slow to keep up. Good luck to your grandson. What semi state will he be at. 1 or 2

Yes, you are missing it because this is in the “Youth” section of the messsge boards. If you or anyone else wants to brag about what he or any other “old” 8th grader did then take it to the “High School” section. It’s not that hard to comprehend. Really. Sorry you’re slow and can’t grasp that.

Didn’t say it offended me. Just said it’s something to be proud of. But you seem to be very confrontational. Plus the morris kid also won his region and is going to semi state. I don’t think George can wrestle high school yet. Congrats to your grandson. Is he at 113?

  14. 1 minute ago, WVhighlander said:

Yeah you are still making it sound like it’s a big deal. Winning a state championship might be a big deal to them. I don’t know. If they want to brag about it they can. It’s something to be proud of.

Something to be proud of when you beat kids way younger than you (MS)……versus something to be proud of when you beat kids your own age (HS)?? Yeaaaaaaaaaa not so much my man. I honestly got no bones I’m calling it like it is. My grandson is 7th grade and 12 and is going to HS semi state. I’m just being honest and I’m sorry if that offends you bro. Call a spade a spade.

They won’t be 16 this school year. As long as they are within the guidelines set out by the governing body then what’s the big deal?

Didn’t say it was a “big deal” did I buddy? LOL But let’s call a spade a spade…..most 8th graders aren’t 15 and nothing to brag about. LOL And literally said it is what it is.

Can 15yo 8th graders wrestle middle school?

Unfortunately. George Dennis and James Morris are two examples. 15 now and actually turn 16 this year. It’s a shame in my opinion and nothing to be proud of when you’re wrestling 11, 12, 13 year old kids. But until the powers that be rectify it then it is what it is.

  17. Didn’t know you were speaking of just KY. My bad man. Then yes grade wise it was. However, age wise there have been some around the same. Raneys were 14 in “7th grade” which is your average age of an 8th grader……which KY has had previous HS state champs in that grade. Subjective to age I suppose. Regardless there needs to be set rules and set criteria.
