So if all the teams agree to film their wrestlers on a single steam would that be allowed?

ie; they all contract the same person.

I've been trying to get region 6 schools to band together and get all the bouts streamed somehow. Last I heard, they were in talks with Barren and the boys on how we could make that possible.

Not true.   If he loses at regions to a kid who he beat earlier in the season they cancel each other out.   Region placement is not part of the criteria.   Head to head would be a wash.  The chances of them having the same winning % are probably slim.   Also wrestler A loses to wrestler B and places 3rd at regions.  But wrestler A beat wrestler C during the regular season and doesn’t wrestle them at regions.  Wrestler C wins that region.   In this scenario wrestler A could be the 1 seed at semi state after not winning regions.

This is the scenario that I'm afraid could play out. It gets even more complicated if A & B are in the same region and C is from the region they pair with at semi state. It's the common opponents criteria that messes it up. A wins Regionals over B and C wins his region, but B and C have better common opponents record than A, then B is 1 seed after having finished 2nd at region and A is 3 seed. Or is it a cumulative where all the comparisons for one wreslter between all participants in one criteria are added up?

I  think I'm just confusing myself now.

  3. Unfortunately, I think Hunter Sproles (138) is out for the year with an injury.

Can't wait to watch some of the battles in a couple of weeks. Some of the top kids can get a good path to semi state finals with a 1st place finish here. I know it's not the format we want, but it's what we have to work with. A bunch of State placers could be headed home without that true 2nd wrestle-back.

Not really sure what I expected their response would be, but I was hoping for more than 7 words. Well good luck in your seeding meetings!

Is he seriously comparing/equating himself to Abraham Lincoln?! I'm sorry to the "catch more flies with honey" crowd. That is incredibly pompous and egotistical. In order to change the culture around the KHSAA towards our sport, we need to advocate for a well-respected member of our community to get on the BOC. Someone who can present our collective voice.

Correct it has been moved. We have a larger gym that will allow parents in the stands. A huge a Thank you goes out to Scott’s AD, Ryle’s head coach Tim Ruschell and a few others in the background to allow this to happen. As far as the broadcast, it’s in the hands of Mike Barren at this moment. What can or cannot be done has to be ran through the KHSAA and NFHS. Jon Carr of USA wrestling is also trying to help.

Awesome! Let me know if you guys need anything.

That’s awesome!! I don’t know if we have a region rep that can be addressed or if this is something to go through the AD at Scott. Maybe Rick Seeney (RJS) can help us figure this out since he’s involved with multiple sports at Scott HS.

I just found out that Region 6 Regionals have been moved to Ryle. Conner's AD has said that we can use their broadcasting equipment if needed, which would cover one mat. Any information from Ryle or any other R6 team on other ways to get this out to friends and family unable to attend would be greatly appreciated.

I don't mind using track as a baseline for seeding.  But ultimately you need someone to sort through the criteria's.  Someone who has no skin in the game and is more worried about getting it correct and not what team/individual is going to win or place.

It is one of the reason's I admire Ranger's rankings.  He is more worried about getting it correct all year than giving someone props because they upset an individual.

Wrestling is one of the few sports where as a group we try and get the best wrestlers to the final competition.  We don't worry if the two schools are across the street from each other or on opposite sides of the state.  We try to get the best kids where they belong.

Someone smarter than me needs to come up with a cybermetric system for wrestling with a WAR state like baseball.

Have you seen rankwrestlers.com ? It takes all the data from track and uses an algorithm that ranks each weight class in each state based on winning percentage, head to head, and how the wrestlers who the individual competed against performed against other opponents plus how their opponents performed. I think the subscription for one year is 10$. It's similar to WAR in baseball. It's only downfall with this season is it takes the last weight a kid wrestled at, which in a season of duals means kids bumping up.

Wasnt state on trackwrestling live last year? I believe Coach Carr helped do all that and you could watch. Im sure this year they will do the same

State was on track last year. We had a lot of people who couldn't make it to the horse park watch it. My question was more about Regionals, specifically Region 6 which is supposed to be at Scott High School, where they didn't allow spectators. The image above is from Region 6 JV Regionals. The stream had no pay to watch, no scores, no commentary, no names, no weight class. It was just background noise and the camera shaking and kids putting their hands in front of it. I'm trying to contact the necessary powers that be to ensure that we get a chance to watch these boys, some of whom may be 1st time State Qualifiers, with some semblance of a true viewing experience.

Just FYI, the NFHS and the KHSAA own all video rights to all post season events.

Great! Any information on how we can contact them in order to make the post season one the kids/parents/fans could watch without 1/3 of each mat not being shown, no score updates, no weight class designation....? We're just trying to make it more accessible, and any help that could be pushed our way would be be greatly appreciated!

If it’s anything like we’re doing up here in Region 6, I would make alternate arrangements to live stream. Region 6 is being ran on 1 camera for 2 mats and that the Region has to pay KHSAA for the rights to stream it so the parents that are being told they can’t come and attend, can watch 3/4 of the mat. This is the sneak preview of what we all get to look forward to (JV Regionals at Scott HS where parents can’t attend) I don’t know the reason they couldn’t have changed venues, except for the fact it was Scott’s turn to host and that takes priority over moving it so parents can attend at a larger school gym.

I'm sure if we put our collective minds together, here in region 6, we can get at least a decent broadcast with multiple cameras. I did a live stream with a former, very respected, coach, and we had some great reviews. If we can get access to the Wi-Fi and equipment, I know we can do better than this. I'm willing to volunteer my time and I'm sure many others would as well

  12. In looking at the minutes from BOC meeting from yesterday, https://khsaa.org/01-21-21-board-of-control-reviews-status-of-winter-and-spring-sports/ , I noticed that they limited the number of bowlers from regional competition, but not the State tournament. I realize it's an apples to oranges comparison, but perhaps this bodes well for the 32 man bracket. I guess we'll all find out together on Feb 17. I, for one, am going to stay cautiously optimistic.

Pick and choose to what makes it look best. Seems like people create accounts when convenient only to overlook the losses and emphasize the wins over people ranked in the teens and twenties. You could lose to unranked Joe Smith and beat #23 Bob Jones and this kid should be paid more attention to. Guess we can get used to this every year.

I was once admonished for this a few years ago when my son noted that he pinned a kid that was ranked above him. I've also learned that the rankings really mean nothing come February. Yes, some are heads and shoulders above the rest, but once you get past the top 3 or 4, it's a matter of who they beat. There is no perfect system and I think Ranger does a great job considering all the time and effort it takes to go over the results and slot the kids accordingly. And by no means is this an official list recognized by any governing body, only by those that read it.

  15. Thanks for reply. I saw Chris's post after posting this. It was a great event with some outstanding matchups. Even with Union sending kids to Ironman, they still had a strong team. Ryle, St. X and Lebanon all had a great showing. Thanks for all you do. These rankings give us old guys a lot to discuss, and it gives some kids a little motivation when they know they're going to face another ranked wrestler.
