  1. Bardstown High School is seeking a Head Wrestling Coach (as well as assistants). Bardstown has an small but established program, middle school and elementary program and a small girls team, hosted the Region 2 tournament, has new mats on the way, and an almost-full weight class slate of wrestlers. Interested candidates should contact A.D. David Clark at (502) 249-1133 or david.clark@bardstown.kyschools.us.

  2. Bardstown City Schools is looking for a head wrestling coach and assistants.  This is a tremendous opportunity.  Fairly new program (will be entering 9th varsity season), with an established middle school program and new elementary school program feeding. Have almost entire weight class varsity team retuning, along with a burgeoning girls program.  New wrestling mats on the way. Due to construction of a new district school, likely a dedicated wrestling-only practice facility within one year.  Dedicated parent base that did a great volunteer job for the Region 2 tournmanent this year.

Contact Athletic Director David Clark, ph: 331-8824; email: david.clark@bardstown.kyschools.us

  3. How about a little positive for the girls. 64 teams, 230 wrestlers, really good demographic spread, pretty good geographic spread, big fan support (even for a Monday when many still work), and I saw a lot of really great wrestling (the Messerly girls are dominant). Harrison Middle was maybe a bit overwhelmed but held it together with a little organized chaos, but I’m not complaining. Good reschedule, kudos to Coach Teater. Let’s get this sport sanctioned! Great job ladies!

Wrestler had to make scratch weight by jan 29. Theres no match rule or combination of 4 rule any more. Example, if a kid wants to be 132, he had to make 132 before Christmas or 134 after Christmas to certify at that weight and be eligible for region. Also if that same kid certified at 132, but after that he weighed in 2 weight classes above, it breaks the certification for 132

OK, thank you. So if a wrestler certified at 132, but then weighed 135, it would be possible to enter him/her in the 138 weight class even if that wrestler had not wrestled 138 all year, correct?

  5. Is it just me, or have there been more last-second schedule changes, late cancellations, and flat out no-notice no-shows to start this year than any season in the last several years?  People keep talking about wanting to grow this sport in Kentucky but we are littered with coaches that will break a schedule upon a whim.  Nothing drives parents of potential wrestlers from the sport more than a team/coach/school that breaks schedules at will.  Am I wrong? Anyone else experiencing this?

  6. $20 a ticket for entrance fee is too stiff. Families want to bring brother, sister, and maybe grandma and are spending over $100 just to get in and sit around for 8 hours. Some schools let their students attend in support of their wrestling classmate without burning an unexcused day on Friday, but teenagers are loathe to have to spend on gas, $5 parking, $20 ticket and another $20-$25 for food just to support a classmate. Want to increase attendance? Lower entry fees. Prohibiting coolers and charging $7 for a chicken sandwich and $4 for a water is highway robbery too. I can pay it, but many can't. I too though the event was better with the tech this year compared to the previous two, but this feels a lot more like a Cincinatti Reds game than a KHSAA school event.  Just my .02.

0-0 after first period. Tucker chooses bottom and gets an escape. Matthias gets called for a penalty point, grabbing the singlet apparently according to the acting official. The secondary official saw it and told the head ref. So 2-0 going into the third period. Matthias gets and escape, 2-1 Tucker. Matthias gets a takedown and rides out for the win 3-2. Good match. Both looked exhausted.

Sounds awesome. What does Matthias actually weigh in at?
