When does that ever happen!
-
Anybody know how the brackets for state will be formatted given there will be 20 wrestlers in each weight class
-
Sounds like your son is a youth wrestler. KY is not “afraid” of bigger brackets. They break the brackets up like that for a few reasons. The first is to get as many kids as possible mat time. The second is that most youth tournaments are one day events. If you have 32 man or bigger, brackets you could have kids in the consolations wrestling 6,7, maybe even 8 times in one day. Also it is a time issue. Youth tournaments are typically run by all volunteers. Every one wants to get kids mat time, but they also don’t want to be in gym for any longer than they have to on their day off (Sunday).

Not sure you’re going win state duals. Might be getting a little ahead of yourself.
-
No it doesn’t. Why take twenty minute breaks between duals? Especially when you have an extra ref? It was known at he beginning of the day that we in for a long one. Where was the leadership to crack the whip and keep this thing moving? This was the worst officiating I’ve seen. I even saw a potentially dangerous chicken wing penalized for a point! I mean really? Doesn’t matter what you are doing whether it is digging ditches, managing, or officiating, when you take someone’s money to do a job you should give a hundred percent. I didn’t see that yesterday. I saw refs who looked like they wanted to any where but at Woodland from the first whistle. It’s pretty bad when you have to hold a pin for 10 seconds to give ref time to slug his way to the mat to call it. This is especially bad in duel where ever point counts.

The Good- Getting all these kids some good matches two weeks before regionals The Bad- The referees. Pretty terrible all day. From being to slow ( or lazy to bend over) to call pins quickly or to slow to call potentially dangerous or just seeming like they had never seen a wrestling match or understood the rules it was pretty bad. And before any body jumps me for criticizing them, yes I have done the job and understand it is difficult. the ugly - 18 teams and three mats. Four or 5 matches in 12 hours. Not the best way to grow our sport. At The middle school level it is really tough to have parents sit in the gym for 12 hours and watch the kids Wrestle four times.Even if we don’t lose the kids because of days like this we definitely lose the parents

Orien Stacey is now a Freshman. Thanks for doing this!

Wrestled with a guy who was 103 his senior year. It not always 8th graders and freshman.

I was at the state tournament if you years ago where they wrestled all of the placement matches at the same time as the finals. It was the first time I'd been to the state tournament since around 2004. I was totally disappointed that none of the same atmosphere that It had in the past. There was nothing to make it stand out and say this was the state tournament. It was just like being at any other tournament. I haven't been back since and I am a fan of wrestling and have a son who wrestles in middle school.

Agreed. But they will just start somewhere else.

Are there any confirmed remote weigh in spots in northern Kentucky ? Someone mentioned Woodland in another post is that for sure ? -
Is it in the rules that you must shake hands? Not that I don't think there is ever case where you shouldn't and we certainly enforce that our kids do. Just wondering?

Any word on remote weigh in locations? Will there be one in the northern part of the state? -
I would also like to know. I've always been able to ignore his ramblings until he spouted about CC being handed a title. To my recollection there were two other state champions on that team and guys behind the Myers boys who would've scored points if they weren't there. Can take a lot but not someone disrespecting my alma mater.

Campbell County was winning state titles long before anybody knew who you were. They will be winning them long after your kids aw retired. Probably shouldn't sling shit at the only place that was able to tolerate you. It is amazing that your kids have been as successful as they been despite you. If you would keep your mouth shut your kids would get the respect they've earned. I'll share some advice a very wise man told me once. "It is better to be thought stupid than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."
-
Isn't this all hypothetical? What about the first round? Why even bother going and wrestling? let's just fill out the brackets based on rankings and mail these kids medals. Save a lot of time and money. Who says the number one or two guy isn't going to crushed in the first round?
-
They were the same way at youth. At one point Sr was directly over top of the kids screaming his head off. Not sure why they get a pass on this? Certainly distracting for the opposing kid.
-
Our kids (Along with myself!) thought was really cool. Does anyone know if the youth state tournament will be live streamed as well? I would think would be something that would help promote growth among the youth ranks
-
What match was that? We where on the mat next to it and I only saw the commotion afterwards.

Campbell is going

Youth state still more than two weeks away why can't thisrule be blown up before then. If there really is that much Outcry from the majority it should be able to be changed if you're just talking about the coaches in our state changing the rules for our tournament I would think it could be made to happen. Why does it have to wait until spring? What is wrong with January 19

That's why I said my kid said he hopes he places 5th! He knows he doesn't stand a chance to place at state but still wants to wrestle hard at regionals for his team. Like I said before a rule that forces an 11 year old kid to think like that is stupid. He should just be able to go out and wrestle hard and let the chips fall where they may and not be penalized for being successful.
-
This rule has my son,who is a young 6th grader wrestling a middle weight, worried about not being able to wrestle at youth if he has a good day at regionals. By a good day I mean, He is not going to win the tournament by a long shot, but if gets a good draw and wrestles his tail off like he's been training to do, might slide into the top 4. If this happens he will likely go 0-2 maybe 1-2 in state tournament. So now what he's thinking is maybe he takes 5th and gets lucky enough to capitalize on someone else's misfortune and gets to wrestle in both state tournaments. Any rule that forces a kid into thinking like that is stupid.

2 LB Weight allowance encourages weight cutting?
Alf replied to Notorious's topic in Youth Wrestling
I have a kid who is going to need the two lbs. He wrestled 92 in February and wrestles 113 now. Kid is growing at rate of like two lbs a month. Started the season at 110 and now weighs 113 on the dot. He will be lucky to stay under 115 by February. He is tall and lean and doesn't have much to lose. For kids like him the two pounds is crucial. Otherwise he will wind up in the bottom end of the next weight class.
