  1. Agreed it doesn't change match results and Saul was better wrestler but I don't think fans think that rationally in the heat of the match.  I'm sure Chase will only use it as more fuel to stoke his fire for next season. Just like Saul did with his loss two years ago in the finals.

Not to take sides, but I was standing above the Woodford section during the finals.  They were more booing the near fall points that were counted, but never given, in the second period.

For reference here is the picture I was shown. No back points awarded. Guess Woodford fans disagreed and let the ref hear it.  Nothing but respect for Saul. He's a great wrestler who exhibited nothing but exemplary sportsmanship his entire career. Best of luck to him at SIUE.

  3. I just can't imagine witnessing what Union Co. has done in the last decade and have anything but admiration and respect for their coaches, kids and parents. They're far and away the best program in the state. It's damn impressive and others should take note on what it takes to build a top program even when you're a small school in a geographically isolated area.

  4. I say just separate top 4. super easy. Beyond that I don't think people care much if #7 has to meet #8 in the 2nd round or the path to finals for the 8th ranked wrestler is a tad easier than the 6th ranked wrestler. That's where the argument of "settle it on the mat" comes into play.  But having two top ranked guys meet before Semis is just not entertaining for fans and doesn't properly reward the few top ranked guys that accomplished the most to get there. And its easy to fix.

  5. I have no tie to any team involved but I think it should be re-seeded.  Sectional champ doesn't mean much when some sectionals are so weak compared to other strong ones. Pick your top 4 teams and put them in diff pools.  That is a very easy task that shouldn't take more than 20 minutes to decide. Then pick your next 4 and place them in appropriate pools making sure to separate teams from same sectional.  After that blind draw in the rest of the teams. Seems most fair and the semis will be worth watching instead of a team winning a dual 51-12.  Giving a team an easier path because of where they are located geographically in the state (how Sectionals are determined) instead of based on performance and resume is a tough thing to defend but I guess that's what the coaches prefer for now.

  6. I thought it looked like Lee got a 2 count near fall too.  My jaw was on the floor every time Lee managed to get his legs back from NaTom. HOW??!? NaTom would get super deep on a shot then a second later Lee is back on his 2 on 1 grip with that left arm. Amazing defensive display by the freshman.  Gonna be real interesting Big 10s in March. OSU is so tough top to bottom and getting better.
