Nobody is holding anything against them. The argument was made that if these two were Muslim, for example, what would have been the crowds general reaction especially given the rituals that occurred during a Muslim prayer.
-
I would disagree on the grandstanding given it that they’re kids. But I absolutely would agree that the overall gym’s reaction would have been EXTREMELY different if two Muslim wrestlers stopped the match and began their prayer ritual. I honestly wouldn’t have been surprised if those two Muslim wrestlers were boo’d and some in the stands started chanting USA. After all, Kentucky is predominantly Trump supporters in most rural counties and we all know how he feels about Muslims. And don’t come at me with that “keep politics out of sports” whining…

I don’t think anybody said that it was illegal to have a 15 year old compete. It’s clear that they are permitted to wrestle middle school level in Kentucky. The difference maker in everyone’s argument is the “held back” factor. Like I said, to each; their own…but holding a kid back that’s literally about to be eligible to get his/her drivers license this year all while potentially wrestling a 4th grader at a KFWC sanctioned event is….well, weird. just my two pennies

LOL…Here’s some perspective on why soon to be 16 year olds wrestling middle school is never OK… This year in a wrestling dual/tournament in Kentucky you can literally and potentially have a kid born in 2006 wrestling a kid born in 2012 or 2013 (4th grader)… Let that sink in from a safety and common sense perspective and please correct me if I’m wrong about the potential age difference. To each, their own…I reckon.

No doubt!!!!

Agreed. Fun for sure, especially bragging on our kids to coworkers, family, etc. Maybe at the next Kentucky Folkstyle Wrestling Committee meeting someone could make a motion that there be a mandatory database where all youth wrestling results our housed? Just thinking out loud here…

You’re welcome! I’m all about efficiency & problem solving. For example: It was easier to write “pro-ranker” than it was to write “person(s) who are in favor of a level of measurement that shows which wrestler is better than the other wrestler based on their previous wins and losses.”…
-
Here’s another suggestion for the pro-rankers: Contact the governing body of Kentucky Middle School wrestling and see if their officers are willing to put in the effort to make rankings. After all, the problem appears to be lack of “finding information” on performances. Right? Well, our governing body would be a place to start.
-
That’s high school. If you go back to my original post, I said that only high school rankings matter. Again, if you want middle school rankings, then grab the bull by the horns and create them. Me personally, I don’t see a purpose in middle school rankings in Kentucky…in my opinion.
-
Then let’s problem solve folks: How about you two get together and create middle school rankings for Kentucky. Again, I don’t see any significance to middle school rankings, but to each, their own. If you want to find some good matches, then start practicing at better wrestling clubs, because the wrestler is only as good as their practice partner……..in my opinion.

In my opinion, Middle school (youth) rankings aren’t that important. I feel it’s more important for the parents (guilty as charged) than the kids. Especially as it pertains to clout. When my kid was ranked as a 4th grader he literally could have cared less. He didn’t brag to his friends at recess about being ranked. He played football at recess like he was playing in the Super Bowl LOL. But me, I told everyone about the ranking. Did it end up mattering in the long run? No. Was there any outcome of middle school rankings that helped performance? No. My then 4th grader went 0-2 at middle school state and 15 minutes after his last match, he was playing bottle flip with kids from a different team. My point is this…let the kids be kids. Looking back, I see my mistake in putting the slightest attention to middle school rankings. Rankings do not matter until High School. Just my two Pennies.

Great tournament!

It’s extremely common to wrestle on 1/4 mats for the little kids. They don’t need a half mat nor a full mat to wrestle on. If you travel outside of Kentucky (which you might, not judging), you will see many 1/4 mats for the little ones. This year’s Region 4 Youth Regional Tournament was a great example of using 1/4s. My coaching staff had no complaints. Again, I like the dialogue of making our Kentucky tournaments better, but I’m also going to suggest a solution to the “problem.”

Overall, outstanding job by the KFWC, our KY coaches, and kids at both MS and Youth tournaments. I especially enjoyed the coach’s lounge with constant food and beverages. There was plenty of seating and the security staff was pleasant. I’d have to agree on the larger mat space for the Novice - Middle School Divisions at the Youth tournament. These ages have likely been wrestling middle school Saturday matches throughout the season. As a solution, I would suggest having the pee wee and bantam wrestle on mats divided in quarters, the intermediates wrestle on mats divided in half, and novice/MS divisions on full mats. Again, outstanding job by the KFWC. The MS parade of champions was a great experience for our kids. Thanks!!
