I would think most teams' coaches would use good judgment on allowing a non-placing MS State participant to wrestle at Youth State.  But ,correct me if I'm wrong, aren't most MS tourneys run through Trackwrestling?  Every wrestler has a profile there.  A cross check of Youth State entrants by the tourney organizer (Tyler or whomever) as rosters from teams are submitted can be done.  Just an idea.

No most MS tournaments are not on track.  District, Regions, State is, and a handful of others, but of the tournaments that happen, less than 50% are on track.

This may be for a different post but I think it would be good to have a disclaimer for the youth State events only (Duals and Individual), that if a wrestler has participated in 60% or more of his/her matches at MS level tourneys then he/she is ineligible for youth State events.  Understand the top 6 placer at MS State caveat.  There are points of discussion to be made for or against this viewpoint.   To me just a way to level the mat for kids who aren't yet ready for MS level competition and for those who are MS level/caliber.

Question back to you.  Who tracks that?

Understand.  Realize this was first year for event.  Maybe residency requirement area for improvement for next year.  Kind of defeats purpose of it being for Kentucky wrestlers.  Otherwise could have northern KY teams add a few ringers from Cincy to roster, or western KY teams add kids from Illinois, etc. just for the purpose of winning State Duals title.  Not saying those programs would ever do that.

High School doesn't have a residency requirement.  No sports do at the KHSAA level. For what its worth.

Okay, quick question about pertaining to youth state weigh ins.My girl will be at middle school state tournament as an alternate Saturday.I think I was told that her weigh in Saturday for middle school state will be counted for youth state. Is this correct? Just making sure.

Yes MS weight in counts as youth weigh in.

It would be nice to get one more team.  Would they be seeded or random draw. If seeded who's #1union or ryle?

You would seed at least the top 4, then draw in teams from there.

Have no idea what they will actually do, probably decided the morning of when everyone is there.

I'm just glad to see atleast 7 teams make it down. Although Union County are some of the best host in the state and set the standard on many things, I can't help but think how much better this could be if we could do a shared venue with HS and get a larger facility and share the cost. 8 mats and stands filled with all the best kids in the state and their fans!!

That's been discussed with the coaches association multiple times.  Unfortunately for MS, the deal the HS has now is to sweet to modify their format to add the MS into it, or to move to a venue where HS and MS can wrestle in the same place.  Cant blame the HS, and I am not.  Its a good deal for them.

You'd still need a criteria to qualify for the event. Post season works best with Districts being the qualifier. We just need to find a venue that is the happy medium for both the West and East sided of our state. Johnson and Union are staples in Kentucky wrestling and should be there with the NKY teams, Louisville and Lexington area.

Cost is too high for that to rent a facility to do it.  If you get a host school then maybe.  State duals doesnt make enough money for that.

    Taken from the bylaws--

Individual State – 5 th place in same region, 5th place in another region as determined by the following rotation plan: Region 2, Region 1, Region 3, Region 4

Exception, due to the 240 bracket being 3 wrestlers shorts, the rollup plan is already been used to fill those spots.

In other words, rollup plan will be at Region 4 once the 240 bracket is filled with alternates.

Region 4, Region 2, Region 1, Region 3. (Circle back around)

So they really are a middle school team just not backed by the middle school they represent.

I have never truly understood the problem.  Middle school teams should be covered under the high school team.  How is the middle school basketball, and football teams handled?

That is another argument, which does not change the discussion about distance of districts.

Football and basketball are sports sponsored by the school district, in most cases wrestling is not.

There is nothing with the High School or KHSAA that covers anything middle school sports wise.

This may be true but many of those "club" teams are only club teams so they can add a few kids from outside the main middle school they represent.

Maybe, majority of them are club teams due to the school district in the area they are in, do not sponsor wrestling, hence being a club team is the only option. (See Boone County) for an example.

No because that is what our representatives are there to do.  Much the same as our representatives in government do.

Everyone has their own agenda, If you allow that many coaches/people to vote and give their opinion, nothing will get done.  We elect representatives because we believe they are the best people to come up with the right answers we need for a district/region.  If they do not then we vote someone else in that we think will do the right thing for us.

Just because I don't attend these meetings.  Many of us don't have the time, Does not mean our ideas are not correct or good.

Like I said maybe I am wrong, It's just my opinion.

Maybe I need to start putting this in again

These are the opinions of GOO nothing more nothing less. Take them or leave them in the grand scheme of things it really does not matter.

    GOO out.

Who are these representatives you keep speaking of if they are not the coaches of the teams?

it comes down to the school not wanting kids to leave before 6 in the morning.  What I mean by travel is look at the average travel time for a team to travel to other schools in their district.

Schools also have to pay bus drivers for the entire time they are gone not just while they are driving, plus fuel costs.  It may not seem much to some schools but it does to many schools.

That could be a valid point.  Our school doesnt provide travel for MS sports of any kind, so I wouldnt know.   Lets also remember though that only about 40% of the teams are school teams.  You take away the 4 school teams in our area that dont provide travel via bus and you the numbers are less.  However like I said, a rotation plan of District host elevates this.
