    Not looking forward to state.

From the news released yesterday expect to see the state tournament back at the Horse Park next winter. I would assume girls' one day and boys' the next two days; likely a Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Let's hope we are back to a 32-man bracket. I'm sure that proposal is going to go out to the voting delegates. The best thing wrestling coaches can do is if they want to return to a 32-man bracket without a semi-state would be talk to your designated representative. In most cases that is the AD, but in some schools it is the principal. You can find that information below by clicking on your school name. https://khsaa.org/general/resources/member-school-directory/

Just a few places across the state that could hold a 32 man bracket. I understand only 1 of those most would consider "centrally located" but wouldn't we sacrifice location for quality? Some would also depend on basketball not being in town that weekend. 3. UCHS does have a NFHS Network camera in the main gym. The two mats in the main gym will be lived streamed, unfortunately there is no camera in the auxiliary gym for the other two mats.
  4. There have been several questions in the last few days regarding dates and times for the first round of the state tournament hosted at Union County High School for regions 1-4. 2022 KHSAA State Wrestling Championships—First Round Schedule of Events Dr. Doug Hines Gym, Union County High School, Morganfield, KY February 19, 2022 7:00 AM GATES OPEN FOR COMPETITORS AND COACHES -Only competitors with their coaches will be admitted until the general public gates open 8:00 AM OFFICIAL WEIGH-INS 8:00 AM GATES FOR SPECTATORS OPEN 8:45 AM PARADE OF CHAMPIONS 8:55 AM NATIONAL ANTHEM 9:00 AM WRESTLING BEGINS 9:00 AM-1st Round (mats 1-4, 112 matches, bouts 1-112) 11:30 AM-2nd Round Championship Bracket (mats 1-2, 56 matches, bout numbers 113-169) 11:30 AM-1st Round Consolation Bracket (mats 3-4, 56 matches, bout numbers 170-226) 2:00 PM-2nd Round Consolation Bracket (mats 1-4, 56 matches, bouts 227-283) 3:20 PM-3rd Round Championship Bracket-Semifinals (mats 1-2, 28 matches, bouts 284-312) 3:20 PM-3rd Round Consolation Bracket (mats 3-4, 28 matches, bouts 313-341) 4:45 PM-4th Round Consolation Semifinals (mats 1-3, 28 matches, bouts 342-370) Main Gym 4:45 PM-5th Round Consolation Bracket (7th Place, 14 matches, mat 4, bouts 371-385) 5:45 PM-6th Round Consolation Bracket (5th Place, mats 3-4, 14 matches, bouts 386-400) 5:45 PM-6th Round Consolation Bracket (3rd Place, mats 1-2, 14 matches, bouts 401-415) 7:00-Introduction of Finals Competitors 7:15-9:30-Championship Bracket Finals (1 mat) (14 matches, bouts 416-430) *ALL TIMES CENTRAL STANDARD *Times are estimated, rounds will begin IMMEDIATELY following preceding round
  5. Charging coaches beyond three seems to have a mixed bag of reactions. I don't like the idea that any coach who volunteers their time to work with our kids would be expected to pay admission to an event they are coaching. Yes, I said volunteers. Regardless if they are paid a small stipend or not, that stipend is not nearly a representation of the hours they put in. We (our school) are paying for our coaches beyond three, but I'm sure they still feel disrespected that their position would require admission. I do understand the position COVID has placed us in, and I know there has to be a cutoff somewhere. I just personally don't like charging coaches (who have met all requirements--Rules Clinic, Sports Safety, CPR, NFHS Learn Course) admission to events to do their job.

    State on track?

Union County has a pretty nice broadcast through WMSK.
  7. Union County High School is excited to host Louisville Trinity, Woodford County, and Ryle for the Bryce Sheffer Memorial Duals. Bryce was one of the best to ever wear the Union County singlet, it's only fitting we are bringing in four of the state's best teams for a dual in his honor. The attached video will answer any COVID protocol questions spectators might have. There will be no tickets sales at the gate, schools have already been emailed tickets for their parents. We are looking forward to a great day of wrestling.

    Region 1 Rankings 12/31

If Avery decides to stay at 182 or move up to 195 will have nothing to do with "running" from competition. He's one of the hardest working, hard nosed kids you'll meet who is not going to back down from a challenge.
