    State news

Has there been any info about regional, semi state, or state sites? Maybe through wrestling coach back channels?

    State news

Question....will there still be a JV state tournament on 3/20? If so, will it still be at Moore HS, since I believe Moore had a water issue in their main gym and construction on the new floor may not be done?

State team race if format changes

IMO the wrestling post season will not get pushed out further. As I posted earlier, the wrestling post season is all predicated on securing a venue, very likely centrally located in the Lexington area. Also, KHSAA will want non-basketball winter sports completed so there is as little overlap as possible with spring sports. The first weekend of baseball games is 3/26-3/28 so I suspect wrestling will be done by then. KHSAA will also not want any attention taken away from basketball postseason either. There's a reason they kicked that discussion to the mid February meeting.

State team race if format changes

IMO KHSAA will want the venue for State to be centrally located regardless of availability of Appalachian Wireless or anywhere in Northern KY or even in Louisville. Biggest reason = money, of which they don't have as much nor want to spend as much to rent for a weekend. Since the Horse Park is out, and with the likely restrictions on attendance from covid, any chance a college in the Lexington or nearby area (Transy, Georgetown, etc) would allow KHSAA to host the State tourney??

State team race if format changes

My take... All the posts so far are about format which is definitely good. Ultimately the biggest discussion on here should be venue, since Horse Park is out. That will drive everything else (number of wrestlers, spectators, travel, etc). Also, the KHSAA will likely not want to add any more weeks to the season, especially for wrestling post season, since there is overlap for winter sports to the spring sports. The focus will be about the basketball post season. Since the next BOD meeting in mid-February will set the wrestling post season format, they will want to keep the format as normal as possible but with reduced numbers of participants so it can be completed. Unfortunately, that will mean some stud wrestlers around the state miss out on an opportunity to earn/become State champ, but then the regional and semi-state rounds become more exciting. Again this is one person's opinion.

1st Annual Blugrass Youth State Duals

I would think most teams' coaches would use good judgment on allowing a non-placing MS State participant to wrestle at Youth State. But ,correct me if I'm wrong, aren't most MS tourneys run through Trackwrestling? Every wrestler has a profile there. A cross check of Youth State entrants by the tourney organizer (Tyler or whomever) as rosters from teams are submitted can be done. Just an idea.

Not questioning the residency requirements. I'll put my point another way. The top 6 placers at MS State cannot participate at Youth State (per flyer). No argument there. However, for the other MS State participants who do not place in top 6, those hammers should not be allowed to wrestle in the Youth State tourney (regardless of age) UNLESS they have participated in less than 60% of MS matches/events. Since most MS tourneys are on Track, this could be verified. To me would keep competitive level at Youth State very close to what is seen at youth tourneys throughout season.

1st Annual Blugrass Youth State Duals

This may be for a different post but I think it would be good to have a disclaimer for the youth State events only (Duals and Individual), that if a wrestler has participated in 60% or more of his/her matches at MS level tourneys then he/she is ineligible for youth State events. Understand the top 6 placer at MS State caveat. There are points of discussion to be made for or against this viewpoint. To me just a way to level the mat for kids who aren't yet ready for MS level competition and for those who are MS level/caliber.

1st Annual Blugrass Youth State Duals

Understand. Realize this was first year for event. Maybe residency requirement area for improvement for next year. Kind of defeats purpose of it being for Kentucky wrestlers. Otherwise could have northern KY teams add a few ringers from Cincy to roster, or western KY teams add kids from Illinois, etc. just for the purpose of winning State Duals title. Not saying those programs would ever do that.

1st Annual Blugrass Youth State Duals

Stahley kid is a really gifted wrestler but IMO he shouldn't have been allowed to wrestle at Kentucky Youth State Duals. His profile on Track shows him from Clarksville, TN with most of his matches in TN. Know it could be a place of residence matter (if his family stationed at Ft Campbell) though.
