  1. I doubt Coach Green reads anything on this site, but I wanted to give a special thanks and congratulations to him and Lafayette for a top ten team finish at state. I always believed wrestling was an individual sport, but he taught me that it is absolutely a team sport and the team comes first. Coach Green, Angel and Dusty gave their heart and souls to these kids this year, just as Coach Green has been doing his whole career with high integrity. With few resources given to them and practicing in a glorified shed - after the baseball team finishes their winter conditioning - The coaches worked tirelessly to make these boys great wrestlers on the mat and more importantly shaping them to one day be great men, fathers and husbands. The coaches weren’t afraid to hold the boys accountable if they made poor choices off the mat, so hopefully they won’t make them again. I could not have asked for my son to be surrounded by better coaches, families and kids. No, we won’t set the team points record next year, but almost the whole team is back and I know they will all have a blast again!  Thank you Coach Green, Angel, and Dusty. I am not taking anything away from the coach who won coach of the year yesterday, but you all are coach of the year in my book.

Before we all start making excuses as to why our kiddo isn't higher on this list let's be sure our reasoning is justified by the information given. For example If the above statement were true we wouldn't see so many wrestlers above Brayden with less matches than Brayden. With the being said I'm sure this list is useful for something Mustang Nation but as DocG has pointed out I'm not so sure it's to be used the was you're using it.  I think I like Dr. Baker' s way of seeing it. It's our future in wrestling and a good one it is.

Check Track under Brayden’s significant wins REsclara  ... the kids and tournaments are all listed there,  and he hasn’t lost since States now a year ago.

Granted, He has gone to camps to train rather than compete every weekend locally and nationally, mostly Miron’s.  It has paid off for him and worked well for our family.  No excuses, just pointing out the flaws where wrestlers he has pinned in the first period this season are ranked above him.

Jayden and Jordyn Raney. This is track list of top KY wrestlers from 2002-2007 middle school eligible ages. They have both won or placed high in major national tournaments for the past five years Jordyn has never not won a state title since he was 5 2013. Jayden has been a state finalist during the same time and has won it every year accept his first (he was runner up) Jordyn has won Cliff Keen twice last time in October. Jayden won Ohio tournament of champion last year Jordyn was runner up. They both won the iron man award at USA south east regionals last year. They were both 30-0 in the 2017-18 middle school Leage. They both won Middle School State last week. With all bonus point win. Oh yea they are both 10 years old.

Any list where a kid who is ranked 20 slots above Brayden, that was majored by Brayden this year 10-0 in their only meeting and Brayden beat common opponents this year, who the other wrestler lost to this year, is a joke.  There are at least 4 kids Brayden beat head to head this year ranked above him.  Sll depends how many meets you go to that are on track. Stick with Ranger’s and Duke’s rankings and who is at the top of the podium.

    70- Vega over Gardner 6-3

75- Tucker over Raney 5-3 overtime takedown at the edge

    80-Sander over Spaulding 6-4

86-Moore over Begley 12-4, puts his dad on his shoulders and carries him off, takes over coaching the rest of the finals

92-Thomas over Giompalo 8-4, thinks about putting his dad on his shoulders and realizes that’s a bad idea, gets a bear hug and a smack on the “Rump”

105- Thorton over Walls 8-7, Spencer gets his first coaching State Champ

    113- Roberts over Andreoni 8-3

    121-Goss over Messerly 8-5

130- Fletcher over Phillips Pin in 2nd period, walks off of mat to grab a Woodford County hat and announces where he’s going to wrestle for high school.

    140-Hatchett over Wittry 6-5.

    152-Little over Freeman 8-4.

168- Giannone over Bikakis 10-5, walks off mat and blasts a double on Joe-Joe. Realizes that was a bad idea as well.

190- Long over Rodriguez in an overtime thriller. Holmes celebrates with a dance off on the side of the mat.

240-Wayne over Stevenson pin in 3rd period off a nasty over/under hip throw on the edge of the circle, Jason arguing that he was on his toes and not his knees.

Hoping these predictions make some people smile and laugh. Truthfully we have some amazing talent and we’re growing each year. These kids deserve and earn everything they get and as coaches we should sit back and look at what we’re accomplishing as a group and continue to keep leading our young men and women in the correct ways. Good luck to all!!!

LOL.  Brayden is reminded every day at practice during live go’s pretty much any shot on Jo Jo is a bad idea!

    Good luck to everyone Saturday!

They feel that head to head at state duals may change seeds! Most state placers will not be wrestling duals for cautionary reasons..

All I read about is the need for growth in Kentucky, improving against good competition and trying to wrestle more against good competition,  and now coaches are holding kids out for a chance against stronger competition.  That is kind of sad.

I think I’ll stir the pot a bit. I just watched Spencer wrestle for the high school team at 113 and win convincingly. I find it hard to believe there are many other wrestlers in the state that can give up almost 30lbs and be competitive. That is over a third of his body weight! The little beast weighs 86lbs! Hands down best in the state!

    He beat Thomas Deck?!?!

  7. I guess I am at a loss for why no 2 pound allowance would force kids to cut to “scratch” weight in youth and middle school.  Just wrestle the next weight up. I cannot say enough about how Coach Carr Sr. and Jr. have helped my son grow as a wrestler and a person since moving here.  I love watching wrestling in Kentucky, but let’s be honest, if you need to cut weight to be competitive in middle school or youth you should be spending your time working on technique rather than than skipping meals and jumping rope to make weight. It will catch up to you in high school and if you wrestle outside the state. Now is the time for these kids to build a foundation, wins will come.

I do not believe ANY child under the age of 15 who is not obese should cut weight period. Youth/middle school wrestling should be about learning the sport and having fun. I see way too many overly competitive parents in the youth grades at the tournaments my 3 grandsons are going to. I have seen one boy wrestle 2 different weight classes in the same event and was seriously larger than the smaller group. But whatever advantages achieved by weight cheating at this age will be eliminated by the time they reach high school.  They are not going to be offered a Scholarship out of middle school are they?

    Amen to that!

  10. I know Coach Carr had posted this previously, but I just can't find the thread, so I apologize for asking again.  When is the qualifier for freestyle nationals for Kentucky and what region are we in?  Thank you for the help, just trying to get Brayden's spring and summer camp schedule set.
