    KHSAA NEW DEAD PERIOD

Here is the actually notice and how it affects spring sports. This is being sent to all KHSAA constituents including guidance from the Governor, Public Health Officials and the Kentucky Department of Education. Effective immediately, all sports and sport-activities, regardless of season, are declared to be in a dead period, congruent with the provisions of Bylaw 24. This prohibition extends through Sunday, April 12. Prior to April 11, and in consultation with the Governor, Public Health Officials and the Kentucky Department of Education, an evaluation will be made for the period going forward. Students shall not participate in any organized team activity, or organized or semi-organized team competition in any sport or sport-activity in any format at any location in any state where school personnel (paid or unpaid) are involved, in attendance, or receiving reports of performance. Prior approval for sanctioned events through the NFHS sanctioning system, both in and out of state, is hereby rescinded for this period. Member schools should note that without appropriate NFHS sanctioning, provisions of the KHSAA Catastrophic Insurance policy are not in place. Students may not participate in activities such as weight training, skill development, individual camps (with per team limits on participation), team camps, or open gym or field activities even if no inter-school competition is involved. Students may not receive coaching or training from school personnel (either salaried or non-salaried) in any KHSAA sanctioned sport or sport-activity; School facilities, uniforms, nicknames, transportation or equipment, may not be used in any KHSAA-sanctioned sport or sport-activity; School funds may not be expended in support of interscholastic athletics in any KHSAA-sanctioned sport or sport-activity; This restricted period does not preclude communication between school, athletic department and coaching representatives to team members and/or families of players on the current roster; Postseason wrap-up activities, celebrations and recognition events relating to a sport or sport-activity team at a school may not be held. At this point, there are no plans to cancel state championship play in the spring sports and sport-activities of baseball, softball, tennis, track & field, archery, bass fishing or esports season 2, but that obviously merits consideration, even with potentially abbreviated seasons. There is also no current consideration to seeking alternate locations or dates for sports state championship play beyond the currently scheduled dates. The information related to the Covid-19 (coronavirus) is ever-evolving, and changes happen quickly. We will inform all stakeholders if there are any changes in circumstances. We are hopeful that with all of the collaborative efforts of the citizens of our Commonwealth, we see this situation subside very quickly, and we have to be leaders in that journey. We also encourage all Kentucky citizens to pay close attention to the CDC and Kentucky health information at kycovid19.ky.gov and strictly adhere to those CDC guidelines, which are always subject to revision as we learn more about the virus. This information is archived on the KHSAA website at https://khsaa.org/athletic-dead-period-instituted-for-athletic-programs-in-all-sports-and-sport-activities/ -- Please let me know if I can be of further assistance. 3. I am just wondering does most teams that go to Virginia Beach take the kids or does your parents. I am told its not a school event and therefore we cant transport kids nor can we use any school funds for such activities. Has anyone else ran into this or is just my school. I am trying to improve our kids, team and the sport they just don't get it so any thoughts could help. I am about sick of all this nonsupport every year its something new.

    Transportation for Virginia Beach Nationals

Yeah my middle school runs through my club I started years ago before we ever did middle school wrestling. Now it all goes to the school I think its time to rename and run separate. Thanks Ranger and Joe.

    Transportation for Virginia Beach Nationals

Yeah has to be a way that coaches don't have to pay there on way and kids can do fundraiser to cover cost without red book issue. Maybe some schools allow and others don't maybe its just about finding the school that backs wrestling.

    Transportation for Virginia Beach Nationals

Yeah maybe we need to start a booster club so the school don't have control over that money. Never wanted or needed one before but might be the answer.

    Transportation for Virginia Beach Nationals

Yeah mine last year same. I was told if we did fundraisers to pay for trips we could now we can't use that money. I am just looking to see if anyone has had similar issues and ways to handle it cause I am about done with it all.

    Transportation for Virginia Beach Nationals

Thanks for the input but I am not allowed to transport in any vehicle other than school I was told and not allowed to do that either so I was wondering what others do. Thank you though just looking for answers.

    Takeaways from state

This was the first year we didn't wrestle the matches in order by the bout numbers. If we are going to continue to do it this way might want to put mat assignments on the big screen for all to see and tell people. I personally liked the old way of next available but I get it this is the way all trackwrestling is done now.

    Large School State Dual Pools

Ran into this earlier in season. Due to extra pound allowed if you weigh under 116 but not scratch of 115 then by the rule you can wrestle 120 & 126 if decent plan allows you can Wrestle 113 & 120. You can't pick 113 & 126.

Track is a great tool and I like it. But like all tools it has lots of flaws most human. We should all have to use it I agree and like your weight sheet from the previous week the results should also have to be entered and updated before you can get the next weigh-in sheet. This would help with those problems but also it should be watched closely for duplicate results because far to many kids records on track are incorrect when the same match is on there twice or even three times. Also a big difference if one team counts Byes and the other doesn't so even though this is a great tool there is lots of room for us all to improve it even more. I agree with Rider should be used more by everyone so we can be better.

Great job Spencer you made your state and sport proud. Ranger congrats to you too Dad. Its always great to watch your son do great things and achieve goals they work so hard to make. More than anything its great to see you share all the credit to the success with so many. It does take everyone and as we grow down here in my little corner of this state I do plan on making it to Madison next year. Good luck during this season to all.
