USA wrestling- Girls Rankings
Raiders Wrestling replied to coachteater's topic in High School Wrestling
Great job ladies congratulations to you all and your coaches. -
Its funny to me that basketball is a low or medium risk and not a high risk like wrestling, football and soccer. To me its the worse of all sports you have most teams play a 8 man rotation so you basically have 16 players or more all over each other for 30 to 40 minutes with zero protection. Then they turn around and play against 5 more kids or more in practice next day. Then a few days later a different team with a different 8 kids this happens at least 3 times a week or a day in tourneys. Basketball has to be high risk or at least if you lived in any other state but Kentucky.

I just hope we get to wrestle if so we will work everything else out. Some teams like mine might have to wrestle same people more than we like or just closer to home for transportation issues. Again let's just hope we get the chance to have those problems to figure out.
-
I am doing a little of all of them. I looked at the guidelines for football or what I thought it was anyways. With that being said I figured that meant my schedule will have to change as we travel out of state at least 3 times a year. Some as far away as Florida or Arkansas also for our district we was restricted to no over night stays or anything further than 2 hours away unless regional matches. With all that said it pretty much cleared out most of my trips and tourneys. So I started looking for stuff near us that if we have a season might workout. Now after hearing everything I just hope we get on the mat at all and will wait and see what we will have to do when they tell us. I for one am just glad the school is finally allowing me to bring the kids in to start conditioning.

Question on middle schooler eligibility for high school
Raiders Wrestling replied to Coach Burton's topic in High School Wrestling
It really depends on your district. -
I think I was talking about Bulter County and you are talking Butler high in Louisville after thinking about it. Sorry
-
How long ago did you talk to Butler? I just ask because I was talking to someone about year ago and they said the new AD was from Ohio Co I believe and he was hoping to start one. Not sure that was true but just thought I would see when maybe he is a new AD with new directions.

First thing is to find who is actually going to fill teams. Right now so many are listed in regions and haven't wrestled in years. Once we fix that then we can have a re-alinement a d then districts. Sounds great to me one day regionals would be nice.

Thomas Nelson High School needs assistant coaches
Raiders Wrestling replied to Coach Burton's topic in High School Wrestling
Glad to see Thomas Nelson back up and running -
Yeah we do mostly duals for just that reason. We always tried to do at least one big individual just so our kids could get the experience for Regional or State. It would be nice to see more 8 man if the brackets are full.
-
That would be nice guess we will see. That's why I posted wanted to see other thoughts on things. Plus can't do anything else so why not kick up some dust.

Agreed was just checking

Ok so I been reading different news about football and winter sports. With that being said if we in my district take the same rules that apply to football then this is what I see and the problems that exist. 1) 1st only 80% schedule so 14 matches not 17. 2) Can't travel further than 2 hours unless for district match-ups and then only with permission. 3) No tourneys with more than 8 teams involved. (Individual tourneys gone) 4) No overnight stays. 5) Only out of state matches that the county touched state of KY. So with these guidelines my entire schedule is cancelled except a few weekday meets. So my question is does anyone have new plans to look at maybe hosting new dual tourneys this season as I am sure we will all scramble for a place to go. Has anyone else heard anything like this or looked at our season under the rules that are being used to play football in their school. Just wondering.

Which school pulled plug.

Actually there was a zoom meeting yesterday. The date was set for first Saturday in March. They think it will have to be Pikeville because they are the only venue that seems to want to answer them. The venue is as of now not set but that is the date if they can secure location if not it will fall back to first Saturday in Feb in Pikeville. That's the way I understand it.

RIP Coach and prayers for you, your players and your family.

I like this with the 108 but I think as it goes up in weights I would like to see change in upper weights something like this might help. 108, 115, 123, 131, 143, 155, 167, 178, 189, 200, 230 & 285 I just think it would help a big guy 240 not to have to cut 20 or Wrestle someone 45 pounds bigger. This might help get more football guys out without cutting them.

Agree with this totally. Abuse is done that was all I was saying not throwing stones. Just as you and pin2win said everyone must do what's best for each program.
-
Then go to individual tourneys that aren't full so he can Wrestle kids that won't take him 12 seconds a match. Lots of individual allow teams to enter more than one kid. There are lots of answers if people want them. It's also easy if you are the one with the good kid to justify it but when you are trying to get kids and it's not a popular sport in your area little harder. When those JV kids are getting distroyed by the same kids that beat the varsity kid a week ago in a different tourney. Parents and kids seem to leave and that doesn't build the sport either. Good kids can find places to wrestle but all kids need challenge not way better than there opponents. I wish all kids the best and like all coaches just look for what's best to build our program and someday be good enough to be a respectable program.
-
I wasn't speaking of Ohio or the strange case of one kid that was a placer in the state and then a back up. But if he placed he really isn't JV to most schools in KY he should go to Ohio. I am not on here to argue any points just saying if you are a good enough varsity wrestler to have a winning record and I don't me forfeits u shouldn't be wrestling true JV kids. Doesn't help you or the jv kid. Go to a varsity match and wrestle on a different team in a dual that doesn't have someone your weight. Fill in kids can get 20 matches a year or more if they also go to some individual tourneys. Thanks all I am saying.
-
I think JV options are always good but it should be only kids not Wrestling varsity. Way to many studs wrestle JV tourneys as it is now.
-
I hope they don't drop anything. We keep saying we want to grow. Never seen anything grow by cutting one. I think if anything we should shuffle the weights to make better for college but we need to focus more on better for growing high school wrestling in our state.

discussion to take minds off of COVID-19
Raiders Wrestling replied to halfhalfhalf's topic in High School Wrestling
Agreed should always be same. In saying that I would like to see a change or shuffle of weights to include a 250 one maybe a small adjustment from start to finish to make room. Just big jump from 220 to 285. Maybe look like this 106, 114, 121, 129, 136, 145, 152, 160, 170, 182, 195, 220, 250, 285 Just a thought sure everyone has different thoughts that will never happen. -

Raiders Wrestling posted a topic in High School Wrestling
With the NBA, NCAA and other big events cancelling or changing things I am just wondering if this will affect Nationals. -
KHSAA just sent down word that they has instituted a new dead period from now until Sunday April 12. All sports and activities are halted.
