USAW Preseason Nationals in Cedar Falls, Iowa

They don't have their entry list posted yet but Grappler Fall Classic, which is this weekend, does. I believe we have 6 in that tournament. Conflict at Carver, which I have found to be a tougher tournament than the Grappler, is this weekend and last I checked we don't have anyone entered in it. -
Zeke gets his first taste of wrestling in the northeast this weekend. Boy what a doozy of a bracket to start the year. Silver lining it's great prep for Super 32s. http://www.flowrestling.org/article/62297-the-best-weight-at-the-2017-journeymen-fall-classic#.Wc43actOnqA

Hug him, kiss him, love him and be honest with him. In his last match there's no other way to say it. Heck, I didn't think he looked good the entire tournament but that's ok. It's preseason and his first match since Fargo. He wrestled poorly in his first match, only shot 3 times and lost by 1 to the eventual champ. That's a good nugget for him. 2 years ago Zeke wrestled as good as he could and Cedeno kicked Zeke's butt 6-0 at the Super 32's. So even though Zeke didn't wrestle well against him at Journeymen he was able to pull out a W so that's a good nugget for him too. But in that last match there isn't a nugget to be found and I'm not going to waste time looking for one for the sake of not hurting his feelings. Chalk it up as one of those times you stunk it up and move on.

He didn't drop that last one he got spanked.

Good luck to the group of KY middle school wrestlers making the trip to Greensboro, NC to wrestle in the Super 32 tournament.
-
Sure hope that's not the case. Hehe. It looks like his chance at the belt is as good as any of the KY boys. Like to see him beat up on some ohio, Georgia and NY boys and bring home the belt.]

And our middle school wrestlers making the trip to Greensboro, NC. Good luck to you boys as well.

Heck no!!!!! This past weekend we were talking about what weight to register at for super 32, 106 or 113. I'm thinking I need to come buy and get some of your water and send it his way. Haha! Tell Preston good luck! -

Be careful not to call this guy out on Indiana Mat. He's obviously got thin skin. He can call out a kid from KY on his Indiana Mat forum and/or Twitter but if this grown man gets called out for doing just that he will ban you from his sight. -
Thought he was a tarheel but I didn't see him on the roster. Hope that's just an oversight.

Nobody said Super 32s isn't a monster of a tournament. I think we all agree with that statement. It's just not hands down the toughest tournament.
-
That's the problem with the Super 32 bracket. The top 4-8 wrestlers may make it through day 1 without a very competitive match. That's not happening at Ironman. At Ironman you could very well find yourself in a battle in the first round.
-
I would disagree with the Super 32 being the toughest tournament. It is a very deep a tough tournament without a doubt but it is a preseason tournament and the organizers work hard to try to ensure that it is the first big one. In doing so, the competition is void of some competitors due to playing other sports as well as the fact that it is so early a lot of programs aren't in full swing. I would think Ironman has super 32 beat. The season is in full swing and all kids are in wrestling shape and all off-season rust has been shaken off. Also, if I recall correctly, Super 32 only has 1 day weigh ins which doesn't do any good for competition. If a kid has to maintain that weight for a 2nd weigh in it will certainly make for more competitive wrestling.
-
To your point, this could be why we had 2 KY kids fall out of the rankings. It appears as if they were replaced by kids that had good showings at Fargo.

I would consider folkstyle, freestyle and greco different sports in the same manner I would consider judo a different sport. They are all a MMA type of sport but different disciplines. So the analogy of baseball and softball makes perfect sense to me. Teach folkstyle during folkstyle and freestyle during freestyle practice.

Heck yeah it is!!! Indiana wrestlers paid $1,200.00.]

That's hilarious Ranger. When he got home from state and told us how it went he said he felt like a fish out of water wrestling Freestyle. He didn't have a choice though. Coach Carr has been trying to get him to do freestyle way back when he would have been a novice at central regionals. But again with freestyle not being a focus here on a local level Zeke never went. But back in December, Zeke's VAC team had an open spot and we asked if Payne would fill it. Jon being the wise man he is saw an opportunity and jumped on it. Knowing that we needed the spot filled so we could make the gold Brackett he made a deal with Zeke. If he let Payne wrestle on the team then Zeke had to do freestyle this summer. Zeke agreed and the rest is history. Had it not been for Jon Carr's persistence Zeke may have never wrestled freestyle.

First things first, Zeke thanked all his coaches not just Mauer Coughlin. He thanked his local coaches, Mauer Coughlin for the help preparing him for Fargo and Coach Marcus Hoehn for always being in his corner coaching him no matter where they're at. I don't believe Ranger was trying to make it sound like he only thanked Mauer Coughlin but I want to be sure that those that read his message and weren't there don't take it that way. Second, Mauer Coughlin is a great club with a ton of experience and knowledge. They also have a club full of partners that are very competitive. During the folkstyle season, Zeke has never spent much time there because he's never had to and I believe this is the point Ranger was trying to make. I too have questioned why I'm having to take Zeke to MCWC for freestyle. What I've come to believe is that some people only focus on folkstyle because it's your high school therefore it shines a brighter light on the community and is more team oriented. In Freestyle the wrestler represents the state which means for KY wrestlers all awards are individual awards. If a wrestler doesn't perform he doesn't get a feel good award for being part of the winning team. He gets nothing. Some people are more interested in growing wrestling locally and others see the bigger picture and want to grow the wrestling presence at the state level. I don't see a problem with either vision so long as they don't undermine one another in their attempt to reach their goals. After all, growing the sport of wrestling is the ultimate goal.

College wrestling is folkstyle.

What part of the state are you in? Maybe we can help lead you in the direction of some areas/coaches working freestyle/greco.
