Thanks for the correction Jason. This is what is saw. So I didn't even bother looking at the rankings. I also missed Micah Ervin as an HM. So I'll update accordingly. MY apologies Mason and Micah.

Ice cream!?!?!? Oh my goodness!! Where is their dedication? Smh

Congrats to all the new middle school state champs and state placers. Also congrats to McCraken on their team title. Must admit that I'm really looking forward to the growing rivalry between McCraken and Ryle. Both have done a great job developing their youth programs and they obviously have buy-in from both the wrestlers and their parents. Great job!!!! Also, kudos to Kolby Koepp for being a bracket buster. He was the lowest ranked (#6) state champ. He beat #5,#2 and #1 on his way to the 130lb title.

Holy cow! Still trying to wrap my head around the thought that Storck or Mattingly will not be on the podium tomorrow night as they both face off in the wrestle backs tomorrow.
-
Is my memory going on me. Has state always ended at a random weight or has it always started at 106 and end at heavyweight?
-
That's why I said "if". Not sure if you misunderstood what I said and thought that I was joining in on the complain train because I wasn't. That's why I qualified my statement by pointing out that other highly ranked kids didn't do well either so it wouldn't be easy to argue.
-
It would be easy to make an argument if it were only WV wrestlers that were ranked and didn't place. But it happened all over the place. To think the #2 & #4 at 120 didn't place either. Wow! I think you hit the nail on the head. Our depth is a breath of fresh air.

Holy cow! Storck beats Mattingly and still will not stand upon the podium.

Is Peace hurt? Something has to be up with him. Not to take away from what his opponents have done but whoa!!!
-
I haven't heard yet. Who won MOW?
-
The #1 ranked wrestler at 120 (Gabe Adams) can potentially end up wrestling #4 in the 2nd round, #3 in the quarters #6 in the semifinals and #2 in the championship. He will leave no doubters in the stands after completing this feat. Many complain about the blind draw but I love it for reasons such as this. As many hope and pray for a favorable draw come state tournament how rewarding would it be after the season to be able to chuckle as you talk about advancing through this bracket on your way to a state title. Go get'em Gabe!

Top 10 middle school wrestlers in Kentucky
REscalera replied to EKYwrestler's topic in Youth Wrestling
Whoa! You totally misunderstood what I was saying so I apologize if it came across the wrong way. In no way was I saying anything bad about Brayden. He has proven himself on the mat for quite some time now and is a big part of the bright future of Kentucky wrestling. Like Dr. Baker said all the kids are great and are writing their own story and I hope they're all bigger and brighter than the stories written before them. My message was more me razzing you a bit by pointing out how we dad's can get a bit over zealous and say something that doesn't make much sense in an attempt to build our kiddos up. When in reality our kiddos don't need us doing stuff like that. Especially when, like Brayden, their results speak loud enough for themselves. -

Before we all start making excuses as to why our kiddo isn't higher on this list let's be sure our reasoning is justified by the information given. For example If the above statement were true we wouldn't see so many wrestlers above Brayden with less matches than Brayden. With the being said I'm sure this list is useful for something Mustang Nation but as DocG has pointed out I'm not so sure it's to be used the was you're using it. I think I like Dr. Baker' s way of seeing it. It's our future in wrestling and a good one it is. -

And I'm not so sure 2002 is middle school age. -

The Raney twins are great wrestlers no doubt. Thought the same before they won their state titles last week too. But they are elementary wrestlers that wrestle up in KY middle school. As for their national success, you can't shake a stick at it as long as you keep it in perspective. That being that it was won in elementary brackets not middle school brackets at the national level. Your sense of reasoning though, success at the national level, I can agree with. Which is exactly why I say Spencer Moore is at the top. There isn't another middle school wrestle close.to achieving the level of success he has at the national level as a middle schooler. Once they are in 6th grade, I am certain they will be at or near the top of this list. -
After seeing that only 2 champs were ranked 4th or below, it's clear to see that the North KY mafia isn't forcing your hand when it comes to your rankings. Great job!!!!!
-
Again, not justifying or excusing any behavior over the other. I found his behavior disturbing.
-
I didn't call the kid out I called the coach out. As always the kids are unfortunate bystanders when adults get involved.
-
I believe this is a great idea. If more kids would follow this approach during their developmental years (and I do include middle school in those developmental years) l believe we would have more success at retainment, less injuries and our kiddos would develop at a faster rate.
-
Sorry dude, I must have been speaking western KY code if you took what I said as justification for one's response. That certainly was not the intent of my message. I agree that his behavior was wrong and has no justification. As for your comment of "Even if that was the reason......is in now way poor sportsmanship." So says the one that avoided the match to maintain a seed as opposed to letting it be determined on the mat by the boys as opposed to by grown men taking advantage of rules. Since when does poor sportsmanship only apply when one goes outside the rules?
-
Looks like Tennessee would be a great model to follow too. They have several girls (more than they do boys) listed in the latest national high school rankings. https://www.teamusa.org/USA-Wrestling/Features/2018/January/31/National-Girls-High-School-rankings-of-Jan-31-released

I guess there's no rule regarding a coach being kicked out of a tournament? If that is the case than I would say no it's not a double standard. It would be like one arguing that the 70lb Raney boy should get the 1 seed over the Vega boy because the Vega kid's coaches chose to run from the head to head opportunity because so long as the Vega/Raney match doesnt occur Vega maintains criteria because he was a state placer last year. I would have no problem with that match avoidance being counted as a forfeit but rules are rules. The rules don't say anything about avoiding a match to avoid a loss so that one doesn't lose seeding criteria so the wrestler that is avoiding a match can't be penalized for it. Just like the rules don't say anything about a coach having to miss state because he was kicked out of state duals. Maybe come next time rules meeting come around both of these situations can be addressed and we would avoid situations like this past weekend. Because if you ask me it sounds like poor sportsmanship on both coaches. One was just not as explosive and visible as the other but present none the less. However I see the other to have the potential of having a lasting negative impact on the wrestler than I do the one that got kicked out. At least the one that got kicked out can speak to his team about how his actions were wrong and apologize. The coach teaching his wrestler to run from a challenge and get something the easy way (the 1 seed)..... Well how's he going to address that? He's probably not.

What does the rule book say on coaches that have been kicked out?
