    OKC Nationals

Bother the heck out of us and let us know all about what the ladies of KY wrestling accomplished this weekend. If we're going to grow KY girls wrestling we need to know who it is we need to get behind. I hear we have a cadet AA! Who is she and where is she from? I hear we have a champ out of CWA. Who is this young champ? Don't keep these ladies a secret.

    Virginia Beach Nationals

My MOW award for our KY wrestlers at VA Beach goes to Trent Johnson. He took 4th losing 1-0 & 4-3 in 2 closely contested matches against Marshall Keller out of VA. For those that don't know, Keller is ranked #9 nationally at 138. He's also #17 on Flowrestling's Top 20 NCAA Prospect Ranking at 149 lbs and is also #92 in Flowrestling's Top 100 Class of 2018 Big Board. Super job Trent! Way to compete! Congrats to all the other KY wrestlers that are bringing hardware home as well as to those that fell short but were willing to go outside your comfort zone. It was exciting being able to follow so many of our wrestlers at a national tournament.
  10. I was pulling for Ben Askren.

    Virginia Beach Nationals

Super excited to see Trent Johnson's rematch against the #9 ranked 138 in the country. He looked really good losing 1-0 to him in the quarter finals. No doubt Trent can get him in this one and end up finding himself ranked next week. Mason also has a big one for the championship against #3 in the county out of OH. Theres no douby he will find himself back in the rankings after winning this one. Great job to all!!!!

Bulldoglife this is great to hear. Am I correct in assuming that Antonio wrestled in your program or a program you're associated with?

    Ky wrestler in college:

    AllStar Classic HWT bout

We haven't and I've never understood why. It's a great opportunity to help KY wrestling grow. Year in year out Union County has some of the top wrestlers in the state (at least half of them) (hehe) and I'm sure by bringing them UC would at least double the numbers in attendance.

    Come on Kentucky

What will it take for a university in KY that competes at the D1 level to add wrestling? UA of Little Rock is excited about their recruiting opportunities in TX, OK, and MO. We have OH, IL, IN and WV. https://www.teamusa.org/USA-Wrestling/Features/2018/March/17/UA-Little-Rock-to-add-varsity-mens-Div-I-wrestling

I think Eric Guerrero deserves a lot more credit for OK State's past success than others were willing to give him credit for. His first year out of the program and not only did Heil drop off but the team as a whole took a huge step backward.

    Seeding State

A couple of ideas when discussing how to address the issue of seeding at our state tournament. Although our current method doesn't bother me, im certain a change that would allow for more finals with the #1 & #2 ranked wrestlers would increase attendance during the finals. The New Jersey state tournament starts with a 32-man bracket in each weight class, four wrestlers qualifying from each of eight regions. The top three finishers at each region are eligible to be seeded first through 24th per a set procedure that is based on previous state tournament performance, head-to-head results, and regional finish; those who finish fourth at the regional are the bottom eight seeds. Wrestling starts at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City on Friday evening, and concludes with the finals on Sunday afternoon. In the Golden State, competition starts from a 40-man bracket with qualifiers allocated to each section per state athletic association guidelines. The top 16 competitors were seeded based on merit, with remaining competitors bracketed per procedures related to separating competitors from the same section, etc. Competition starts on Friday morning at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield, with the finals slated for Saturday night.

    Blake Roth to Lindsey Wilson

Congrats! Looking forward to hearing about big things out of this incoming class.
  21. For those wondering about the status of KY wrestling, I was pretty excited scanning over the rankings in flo tonight. Congrats to all that got some props. #6 Zeke Escalera #18 Ryan Moore #20 Mason Smith HM Saul Ervin HM Zane Brown HM Derrick Smallwood HM Micah Ervin That's 4 honorable mentions. Hopefully these 4 have some success at some national tournaments over the next couple of months and find their way into the rankings. Have we ever had 7 wrestlers ranked at once? Get excited just thinking about it.

    KY wrestlers getting some props.

Yes! KY has a 170 ranked at 20 and 1 HM at 170. So I would say it's safe to say thallt at a national level 170 was our deepest weight this year.

Ok guilty as charged. I was scanning over flo and typing the initial post between stop lights. My rushing and excitement as I was going from one weight to the other and then typing my post I screwed up. I did see Zane Brown and accidentally typed up Trent Johnson. My apologies to both.
