    Large School State Dual Pools

Looking at the weigh in sheets, Lawson weighed in at 116 but his decent plan (116.14) wouldn't actually allow him to wrestle 116 on the day. If that is correct, he was eligible for 126. Now if he wrestled 116(115) then that's the issue. Correct me if I'm wrong.
  2. Carr use to tech/pin Merritt in middle school but Merritt had a HUGH leap when he got to high school (which he continues). I recall both wrestling 132 Merritt sophomore year and wrestling twice. Merritt won both matches (10-5, 3-2). Now I understand it was two year ago and I'm sure both have grown as wrestlers. Saying a tech fall either kids' way, I think is disrespectful to the other kid. We all have our opinions and that's just mine.
  3. It's not as simple as it use to be when the rules first changed. The state has started digging deeper into these "physical moves" than people think due to everyone using that to justify eligibility at another school. In addition, ADs/coaches have no true insight if a kid will be eligible. Their fingers are crossed just like the kid/family. Hope it works out for any kid trying to transfer.

    Referees

Without seeding, I like the two refs starting in the quarters as well but the second ref actually has to be "engaged" and in position to assist with the match. For example, there were back to back finals matches that locking hands should've been called (at least twice in both matches) and in both matches the calls weren't even brought to attention/discussed. How beneficial were those second refs in those matches??? I know we don't want the refs to decide matches but is it not the same as not calling obvious penalties.

    Region 1 predictions?

Lol hey I see no problem with difference of opinion. I guess we'll both see next weekend.

    Region 1 predictions?

No disrespect to any kid but I don't see any kid on Gabe side of bracket presenting a real problem for him.

Yeah, I heard Woodford was a little banged up. It happens and I can understand wanting to rest with their tournament coming up after Christmas.

    KWOA weigh-ins

Quick question folks. How can one team weigh-in the night before a tournament but this option not be offered to the rest of the field of teams?

    WCI MOW

AllSport, You are right about the Gray vs Leavell match. I understood the stall call to tie the match up but let the boys decide the winner. Gray could've gotten away for the win or let it go into OT. Barnes does have a point but i've been to tournaments and seen coaches go change their vote (factor in teams that leave early too). In this case, it didn't happen. At the end of the day, Hoppes will have plenty of opportunities to win MOW, I'm confident.

    WCI MOW

If strength of opponent is the argument then it goes to Dylan Gray from Caldwell. He beat what was the current #2 ranked kid (who had beaten the previous #1) in the semi finals and then beat the current #4 ranked kid in finals. In conclusion, there was a few kids we could debate that were worthy of the MOW. Hoppes and Gray are two of those kids (both title contenders) but nowhere should beating a #10 kid ever be a factor for the MOW. In my days, we pinned or teched the #10 kid anyway. No disrespect to any kid, I'm just stating facts from my era ('96-'00).

    Christian County Invitational

Taylor County will be attending too.
  14. Ranger, You shouldn't have to explain yourself. You do us, KY Wrestling a great service by taking your personal time do post rankings. Also, you do your homework before putting rankings out. If people want to know why a kid is ranked where you position them, they should do their homework for themselves. Furthermore, this is a simple fix, if someone doesn't like their position then do something about it. In other words, BEAT SOMEBODY!!!...

    Region 1

Gage shoulder popped out in late December while wrestling a kid from Mater Dei.

    Region 1

People absolutely kill me casting stones at these kids being overly excited about having an opportunity to wrestle in the "STATE TOURNAMENT". Gage Fowler "fist pumped" as time ran out and now his sportsmanship is in question. BOLONGA! This isn't the YMCA! For a kid that was battling a bum shoulder (popped out of place) and an upper respirtory infection to mustard up the energy to pull out victories the way he did, speaks volumes about the kids' HEART and DETERMINATION. I know we all are entitled to our opinion and this is my take on it. Furthermore, I did see his coaching staff talking to him about the "fist pumping", so it didn't go unanswered.

    State Champ Dual

Coachteater, you're so right. We could go on all day about who would win what match-up but who really cares. With that, I am done. Thanks coachteater.

    State Champ Dual

Again, read first and if you don't understand then read it again... It was clearly stated by me that "KY wrestling will be losing some very exciting/outstanding wrestlers after this season. I can't wait to cheer these guys on at the college level. Congrats to all!!!"... As for the comment "Out dated champ from the 90s", you're showing your TRUE love for KY because Merritt represented KY wrestling very well with his outdated self, as did a lot of other "OUT DATED" wrestlers smh lol. Oh yeah, why every time someone disagree with you, you say... ugh well you're just uneducated about the sport bahahaha. I know, I know... you're the infamous mpire and you're always RIGHT. Sir, yes sir!! I could talk to you all day but I rather pick my nose. Boy, you keep me laughing (in my eddie murphy voice).

    State Champ Dual

mpire, a little advice before you speak... read first and if you don't understand what you're reading then read it again. It was never stated that Boston would have lost to Smith, it was stated that the match would have been close. Furthermore, for you to have never seen Merritt is enough said and if you never seen Merritt then that probably means you know very little about the '96 class. So I have no words for you buddy, done talking; end of discussion ;-)... Austin, stay humble and hungry, skies the limit for "YOU". Keep your eyes and ears open to what's going on around you and don't let ones' ego define who you are or what you stand for. I respect you as a talented young man, a wrestler and how hard you work at your craft. Keep up the hard work, I think you're an awesome wrestler! Enclosing, A fan of ONLY the Myers brothers

    State Champ Dual

IWIN, I agree with '96 champs (A BUNCH OF MEN) winning the dual and most of your picks individually but that Boston and Smith match would be a close decision. Smith was very strong, extremely quick and probably the best off his feet between the two groups. I'll be the first to say Boston is an AMAZING wrestler and will go on to ISU and do great things but I feel this match-up could go either way. Ask yourself this...would the score of a Smith/Gus Adams match been 2-1... Oh yeah, you're definitely right about the Myers/Merritt match being matching of the night but like I said that '96 class where a bunch of MEN. I'll take Merritt; just a freak of nature and to powerful in the end. Being around KY wrestling all of my life, I'd go as far to say some of the runner ups, 3rd and 4th place finishers were better than some of the '13 champs. For example, take the '96 top four state placers at 119: Talbott, Delk, Dunn and Peterson. Between the four was 7 state titles ( Talbott 2x, Peterson 2x beating Talbott in '95, Dunn 3x & Delk runner-up upset Peterson in semi '96), which one of those wouldn't have beaten Blackwell (tough wrestler). Now im not taking anything away from todays' kids, they have made great strides for KY wrestling and I am proud of their HARD WORK but that '96 class was pretty stout. This is a great post and I love the Old vs New matchups.
