Was told that JC was going to decline a challenge if they won, and if Ryle won there was going to be no challenge due to both Ryle and Union wrestling the weekend prior in a dual with Union winning fairly convincingly.

Just my 2 cents. Nothing changes. Ryle and Union County wrestling a second weekend in a row, to prove that Union County is on another level than any other school in Kentucky, would be a waste of good travel time for Union County to get back to Irvin country!! There is way too much respect between the coaching staffs, teams and families to get into a debate about this one. The only benefit we all would have gotten out of the dual is another match up between Irvin and Duke, Eckman and Sander. Union County is the best program in the state large and small schools combined period. Best of luck to all in the weeks leading up to state!! Stay healthy!!!

  2. 100% agree. Coach Ruff and Coach Myron Bradbury did a awesome job and always promote Kentucky wrestling to the highest levels. All their wrestlers did a great job  at the tables keeping the matches going all day. Also thank you to FCA leadership Coach Rusty Parks, Coach Joe from No-Ox and National Champion Brett Bradford for bringing devotion to the morning for our wrestlers to attend. Finally congratulations to Union County on their 9th straight and Ryle Raiders on our 1st championship. Johnson Central was the best/ most exciting dual I’ve ever had the pleasure to be a part of. Thanks to them for the competition!

Great event! Had a great time watching and spoke to a lot of proud parents at the event.

My take away : Please take it with a grain of salt.

At the beginning of the tournament, you had 2 of 6 Matt’s rolling. Why? If you had all 6 we could have been out of there 30-60 minutes earlier.

You need to police the fans standing at the rail in front of the stands. We all pay the entrance fee and I got tired of walking down to ask people please sit down so the rest of us could watch the matches.

The speaker / microphone system needs help. I couldn’t hear a word the announcer said. ( I’m half deaf so it may have been just me)

$10 for an adult is fair. But at least mark their hands with a sharpie so that I can re-enter the event without paying an additional $10 which I did gladly.

I left because the food was not healthy. I need good food and so do the athletes. Maybe look at having a couple parents cook so you aren’t just serving chips, pop, dogs  and candy.

PLEASE do the dashboard on Track next year. It helps me look up the bouts and be an educated spectator. Mind you I’m a wrestling LUNATIC and most parents are not.

Again, this is all just my personal opinion and I do not what you to think I am complaining. I’m not. I’m just offering suggestions.

Thank you for supporting the Ryle Raider Rumble. It’s our main fundraiser for our teams so your support goes along way. I agree about the PA. It started last week at a Basketball game and still has bad feedback. The bout board hanging in middle of gym was to let all spectators keep up with mat assignments and their wrestlers. Also it was updated on track as the results came from the mat by our I.T. coach all day so results were as close to real time. Maybe one day we can have a group of volunteers that can run track from floor but as of now that’s the best we have. As for the rounds at the beginning, that was 2 weight classes that were larger and we had to run them first to get that bracket to the size of the others. That allowed for all weight classes to finish up evenly for the finals. As for the food, we allow the wrestling teams to bring in coolers and place in our dining area. That way they have their foods of choice and a place to get away and test outside of the gym. The concessions had BBQ, Hamburgers and Cheeseburgers, Pizza, Hot dog and Cheese Mets. That’s not bad for a HS event ran strictly by volunteers and mostly donations. Took about a month to organize and we sold a lot of food. Finally, you should have been stamped when you came in. Please let me know where I can mail the $10 privately and I’d be glad to get it back to you. Again, thanks for supporting High School  wrestling an our tournament.

  4. I wanted to congratulate the 5 wrestlers that placed at IHPO this year. Also wanted to give a shout out to some amazing coaches that took time to go with these wrestlers and support them. Coaches Joe Burroughs No-Ox, Randy Wheeler and Corey Mullins with NLW, Jason Moore KY Extreme, Issac Knable Invicta, Jarvis Elam with Union County, Joe Carr Sr. And Jr. with CWA and Darren Thomas with Ryle Wrestling. There were so many great matches wrestled by Kentucky wrestlers. At one point we had 2 wrestlers competing to get to the Semi Finals Jake Insko vs Zac Cowen. Thomas Hoppes and Issac Thorton had a good run that finished them at the quarter finals. Many others like Seth Lutes had a solid tournament. Top 4 places and received early entry honors into the Super 32.

Spencer Moore Walton-Verona 109 lbs Champion

Cole Thomas Ryle 116 lbs Champion

Jake Insko  Union County 141 lbs 4th

Dalton Russelburg Union County  173 lbs  Runner-Up

Levid Rodriguez  Johnson Central 223 lbs 4th

It’s a lot easier to have finalist singlets in states such as WV and Ohio. They have a true state champion. They know exactly how many state finalist they will have. Ky might have 3-4 brackets for one age and weight class.

This is only done for the middle school. The youth we focus on more participation and quality metals for them. Unlike the OAC Where are you need to qualify for state and youth, Kentucky is open to any participants that Weighs in for regionals. Our numbers have never exceeded 1200 youth in one year. That number is comparable to what Cincinnati has alone.  Our numbers have never exceeded 1200 youth in one year. That number is comparable to what Cincinnati has alone

There are 100's of people that read these posts and want to know whats going on and some are more than willing to help. Only a handful are on that coaching email list. I think that for every 1 person that bitches and moans, there are 5 that will help fix the problem.

100% agreed. We all love this sport so much that we would love to see it grow and these kids receive the same recognition as other neighboring states. But our numbers are what they are for the moment so we should focus on quality wherever it’s at. No reason at all with a free venue we can’t have large cardboard brackets, singlets for finals, large medals, spot lights, music and excitement!!! As far as the youth state, put a large thoroughbred trophy out there like any Way does with the Eagle trophy and they will drive the distance to win. Parents want value and something to show for it. Also I’ve always believed that we should find a way to financially support the champions to be able to travel and represent Kentucky on the National Dual Teams. With a free venue maybe this could help!!

These are all discussind that should be had between the coaches at the coaches meetings not in a forum setting like this. It undermines what the real reason we are all here for and that is the wrestlers themselves.

I have to disagree with you here Bulldog ole buddy. This is exactly where all the people that love this sport can come and give their insight. It’s just that, an insight or opinion, thought or feeling. This exact forum is where we came to the realization we needed to start with 3 different divisions for youth to allow small, middle and big schools all have a chance to win team championships. Matt Lee and I had the pleasure to start that years ago and it seems to be a success. Same thing with the 16 man brackets and the weight classes vs 10% rule. Everyone on this sight loves this sport and Kentucky wrestling specifically. The previous admin did a great job with a lot of things for this sport just like the admins before them. We all did it for the same pay!!! The same as your collecting now!! It’s for the love of these kids and sport!!

Last year the medals were tiny. Like I had to squint to see them on the table (okay maybe an exaggeration but you get the point). For being a state champion, I feel like the kids deserve more. My kid has been going to state since 2015 and I have never seen them give out singlets to the finalists. In fact, she WAS a finalist in 2015 and didnt receive anything other than a medal. In youth, the kids could get a printed copy of the bracket but not a bracket board or anything special like that. I am hoping they will use the venue funds to put towards the (very well deserved) awards for the kids.

This would be a statement that Ranger or Dutch could field better in detail but I remember 2013-2018 my son qualifying those years and  their being brackets , finalist gear and huge medals that John Roth, Jason and Brandon designed. My son has one of those brackets on his wall and the gear and 4 MS medals to show for it. The only girl I can recall was Miracle at 92 lbs back when we were in Montgomery county in 2014-15 and she was a beast!! BUT I do agree that the last couple years the awards have changed and the excitement towards the finals were lack luster. Not fitting for kids that work hard all year for 4:30 of spotlight!!
