  1. Just wanted to get some information started on this site for Team Kentucky/USA Elementary!

First practice will be Saturday March 8th @ St Xavier High School (1609 Poplar Level Rd) in Louisville, KY from 11:00 am to 1:00pm. Practice is not mandatory but is a great opportunity to train with both teams and build friendships.

Second practice will be the following Saturday March 15 at Campbell County. Exact timing will follow.

I am looking forward to coaching the RED Team Kentucky and working with Coach Miracle , Coach Lee and Coach Moore with these teams. If you have any questions for me, please feel free to email me at tlc.darrenthomas@gmail.com

  2. Great Job with using Track wrestling today! Jory, Jason and the whole staff of Taylor County did a great job running a fun and smooth tournament. Sure would like to see more support from our youth teams that have opinions of which direction to take this sport, show up to these events. I know we have a lot of talent that was not there today. We could build more than 2 solid teams to represent our Kentucky in Iowa and Tennessee. I know the boys that earned spots on these teams are excited about their oppertunity.

  3. Great Call! Can you explain the process we are using for brackets with 6 or less wrestlers? Will it be a round robin to create the fairest oppertunity. Also on the 8 man brackets, will that be a blind draw? I don't want my son having to wrestle Spencer Moore 1st round unless it was the stars aligning! Creating a finals match right out of the gate!! :) this post obviously is directed at Ranger!

  4. I didn't mean to leave you out Darren thank you for your time and hauling the Mats. Plus your awesome voice over the intercom. LOL

I still say you would look real good in WV blue. Lol Keep Your Head Up!!! Cole and I only have Black and Orange in our closet!!But thanks for the compliment, we like all the WV folks!!!

  5. Thank you Braves Coach! I enjoy being a part of running this great tournament. Seeing the faces of all the kids during Face Off and them receiving the recognition they deserve for a season of hard work, is rewarding! The podium and awards ceremony is awesome. Watching the teams win a trophy in 3 different divisions is perfect! The new medals are really cool and I heard nothing but excitement out of the 2nd session kids when they seen their team mates from 1st session with them! Thank you to all the volunteers that worked the tournament. Your kids benefit from it and we owe you a debt of gratitude. Thank you everyone for another amazing season!! - Coach Darren: Raider Youth Wrestling

  6. Overall, I thought the tournament went very smoothly in both sessions. We actually finished the 1st session 45 minutes earlier than expected. As for the additional people on the floor, I did hand out orange bracelets to all table workers and coaches. We had different people working both sessions so that May account for the extra arm bands seen on the floor. I do know I made announcements for people between the stands and the mats to stay clear. And all day they did. It's the middle isle where everyone gathers that stays crowded. It's the best area for all coaches to stand. With 20 surfaces and 900 kids, coaches need to stay in the middle to be ready to coach when the table calls! Great Job to Jason, Adam, Jason's wife and my team mates Matt and Adrienne!! Also thank you to Campbell County and Walton Verona for helping me load the mats on my trailer. Shout out to The Messerly Family (Braves) for their great showing at state. Purchase Pounders for their team spirit and D2 Championship and Martin County!!! And a final THANK YOU for allowing me to do face offs the last 4 years! It's an absolute blast to watch all these little guys and GIRLS get their 5 minutes of fame for all the hard work they put into the year! Between the Medals, Podium, Team Trophies, Face Offs, rolling up mats and loading them up, we left by 6 PM!!! THATS A GOOD DAY!!!!! Thank you for everyone's help working this tournament!! Already looking forward to next season!!

  7. Id like to give a shout out to Mason Smith. I had the chance to watch him win the Middle School State Championships and earn MOW last weekend. Then come to Region 6 this weekend and watch him pin Vaske of Boone, upset last year state placer Scaggs by pinning him, then beat Krebs in the finals with ,what I thought ,was the best finals match of the day. All 3 wrestlers he beat are headed to state as the 2,3 and 4. The kids a class act on and off the mat. Good luck to him and all these dedicated wrestlers at State this weekend! This is going to be a great show!!

  8. Congratulations on your sons success! Making the podium is a major accomplishment. My son qualified as a 4th grader as an alternate at 70. This State tournament inspires these kids to set goals and work hard towards them. To have the next level(high school) go backwards as far as promoting this sports is a lack of respect for the dedication these young athletes put in all year! PLEASE VOICE YOUR OPINION!

  9. Very we'll said... It was a great day! Very we'll organized and executed!

My boy just placed 5th but could not stop talking about how big the medals were! Keep up the great work, more athletes in KY will figure out how special the sport of wrestling is...

  10. I put a call in to the KHSAA but was sent to voice mail. So leave a message letting them know that we are trying to move forward with wrestling, not backwards! If anything they need to duplicate our current Middle School and Yourh Formats!! This weekend at Middle School was awesome. Great medals, huge bracket posters, Team Kentucky singlets and individual recognition!! At youth we do the Face Off for all the kids, new medals this year bigger and better and we have team awards for 3 different size clubs! If your on this forum, then you love wrestling and more importantly, YOUR WRESTLER!! Make your voice heard like some of these debates about weight! Out that effort into changing the KHSAA for OUR FUTURE STATE CHAMPIONS!!

  11. As a Raider Coach, It was great to see our Regions numbers continue to grow and the competition has never been better! Simon Kenton, Cooper, CC , WV rosters looked great with their numbers and competition level. Grant County continues to grow with not only numbers but quality!(watch out for those Messerly Twin Girls!) All the clubs seem like their numbers are up based on the roster sheets I handed out. Also I'd like to give a shout out to my partner in crime Matt Lee and his wife Adrienne. Great job on all the extra work you did to make the Regional tournament flow smoothly. Finally to the Conner Youth Team, your parents and high school wrestlers rallied around their coaches and showed why Conner Youth is one of the best programs in Kentucky!! Great job guys!!!
