Add another, Nick Giompalo just won his 2nd state title for Cabell Midland at 190 lbs.

That’s pretty impressive. Congratulations to Nicky G on another State Championship!! Awesome young man. Hard to believe that Nick and Jude were the same size as Cole and Spencer. LOL

I coached Jude in probably 4 matches against Cole before Cole was in high school. Cole was so tricky and technical. Back then Jude looked like a newborn pony, all length. He was able to get in on shots but Cole was so funky even in elementary school and usually able to defend. We never were able to get a win over Cole.

Lol “Newborn Pony”. Jude just hadn’t grown in to his body yet. Seeing his brothers you just knew it was a matter of time he’d be a monster!!! Jude was always a great kid and competitor. And the signature Pink Head Gear was awesome!! Thank you for the kind words about Cole. It’s been fun being his Dad/Coach. He’s  been blessed to wrestle so many great kids in Kentucky that are now all State Champions!

No photo description available. Here's Another podium full of studs...Frazier, Grandstaff, Moore, Thomas, Herron.  A lot of state titles in one picture. That bracket also had Jeffrey Kinley, Jude Powell, and Nick Giompalo.  Crazy.

Great Throwback picture!! Thank you for sharing. I believe several of those kids were in Elementary school at the time too. Just on the podium alone is at least 9 state HS titles. Does anyone know who the kid In 4th place is. Obviously tough as nails, placed higher than my kid on the podium

Was in a discussion over the weekend. What other 4 X'ers went undefeated in KY? I know ATM never lost. Did anyone from KY beat Brock, Fahy, Courtney, Knable, Clarkston, or Harden? I don't think anyone touched Brock or Knable, but not 100%. Did Courtney ever lose from 9th-12th? No clue on Clarkston or Harden.

Does anyone have the list and years of the 4x State Champions in order? I had the pleasure of standing there listening to Mike Bandcamper and John Roth, on the state floor, trying to count them and recall the years that it occurred. Mike and John counted 7,including Cole Thomas. I thought I had heard 9 somewhere. What I do know is that Bryce Sheffer was an inspiration for Cole Thomas his whole middle school and high school career. Bryce certainly set the bar at a level that few will ever obtain. What a great legacy he has left this wrestling community with. I am excited for Cole Thomas to be mentioned among names like Carr, Knable, Fahy, Meyers and Clarkston in the record books.  It’s been an incredible journey for sure he has blessed our family with.

I don't know, it is unfortunate. Looked forward to seeing some of them out there.

Without going in to each of their individual  private family matters, all I can say is, all the wrestlers were wanting to go, but for reasons outside their control, they didn’t/couldn’t  go.

Ryle has a bunch going. I think there are 8 high school kids and 2 middle school kids going. Nick Baldwin from Belfry and Ryan Smith from Johnson Central for middle school. Ryder Trumble, Issac Thornton, Cole Thomas, Carter Messerly, Noah Duke, Caleb Duke , Charlie Mckune, and Lane Kyser For high school.

Unfortunately Ryle won’t be attending. Good luck to all the Kentucky kids wrestling this weekend.

  8. I just wanted to say best of luck to Payne Carr as he starts his new journey at Naval Academy. Jon, Joni, Jace and Payne have been a big part of Kentucky/USA Wrestling for our state and I think it’s pretty awesome that this young man has made the commitment to serve this country and continue to wrestle at the next level. Thank you to the Carr’s for his service!!!

Thank you for responding,  i Apologize for missing your point which i totally agree the boc needs to listen to the association.  I should have not quoted your statement, it was just last one before i replied, i should have made mine on its own. I will say there are ones out there that seem to have the feeling myself or the association is not trying, this is totally untrue. Thanks for your support and I have nothing but respect for you and your team.

It’s all good Scotty. Just wanted to make sure you knew that it was nothing about you or any coaches. Literally a deaf ear is just that. Unless they have a personal attachment to this sport (which none of their kids wrestle) they will never know who their poor decisions negatively affect. I will leave you with this, I LOVED the safety minds in charge of controlling the grouping together at the Day 2 Semi-State/Medal rounds.  (like the “podium chairs”) atleast 6 feet apart to help control Covid  after they forced all the wrestlers (minus the 106 lbs) into the small gym to warm up on one mat. 8 wrestlers on the  4 mats in the main gym and 108 wrestlers on the one mat in the small gym!! LMAO!!!

On behalf of the coaches association and a number of coaches on it, we spent countless hours trying to do everything we could to help make this year the best we could. I dont know what power you think the association has, but when dealing with khsaa it is minimal.  Sure youth and ms can be done however,  its not ran by the khsaa. If state was ran by the coaches association,  it would be much different.  So dont go throwing myself and our association members under the bus. You guys have no idea the time, effort, and battles we went through this year. I personally have done everything I can to help communication and to go to khsaa on behave wrestling. Coach Founder, Ashbrook, Dettwiller,  Ervin....they all were involved deeply and will tell you the same thing. If its a personal thing and you dont like me or the job I do, feel free to call me or talk to me in person. Not one person has come to me personally, only comments about "leadership " on here. As far as the kywca, everyone on there has worked their butt off to make wrestling better and did EVERYTHING they could this year, if you doubt that, you are simple misinformed or making assumptions. It was a frustrating year for everyone, but blaming the people who worked the hardest is disheartening.

Scotty you need to read this in the context that it was written, from a friend and coach. Simply put, regardless of what efforts everyone in the wrestling community has put in the past or present  towards making Kentucky wrestling better, we will never get it accomplished until we get through to the members on the Board of Control and they make the changes for us. They don’t see it from the wrestling communities perspective. That’s all I meant from that statement. PS- I have your number on speed dial from the years past coaching together at FCA.

Then you have not looked very hard.  Many things have been accomplished by banding together in this site.  Middle school and Youth have made extreme strides by posting on here and getting input from others.  A few years back after gathering the troops (some of which were gathered on here) KHSAA put the finals on one mat instead of all the medals matches at one time.

I'm sure there are other examples but those come to mind immediately.

Plus venting is good for the soul.

This is the only site/opportunity that all who love Kentucky wresting can come together and work towards common goals for our sport. As Ranger and Goo has said, we came together to move mats, have youth and MS face offs, better awards, national level training with each other across the state and we can go on from there. Bottom line is that all our border states had their championships. We were told that this was for Covid protocol and safety then turn around the following week and do the complete opposite. Until we have leadership from the Coaches association and community leaders get through to the KHSAA regional Board members , we will never see change for the best.

That’s not very Christian like.  Spiral fracture on his left hand hasn’t been very much fun for him lately.  Thank goodness for second opinions, opinion 1 wanted to shut him down and operate.  Opinion 2 said it was his pain and how much he could handle.

I’ve seen a few try Ranger’s strategy LOL. I think that’s when he started to use the Assassin to pin them with a little more “love” on the hold. My pick is for the one handed wrestler pinning the 2X State Champion in 31 seconds over the rest of the field and the 3X State Champion!!
