  1. Coaches,

Superduals will be held on Dec-7th this year.  Currently, we have 3 vacancies as I have not heard back from some teams that attended last year.  This has traditionally been a great event to start the season.  We have guaranteed teams 5 duals and most teams are out the door by 4-5pm.  Confirmed teams for 2019:

    Apollo

    Evansville North (IN)

    Jeffersonville (IN)

    John Hardin

    Male

    Meade Co.

    North Hardin

    North Oldham

    Oldham A

    Oldham B

    Simon Kenton

    South Oldham

    Western Hills

If you are interested, and/or would like more information, please contact me privately at aaron.riordan@oldham.kyschools.us

  2. Coaches,

I am looking for one team to come to our place on either Wednesday Jan-16th, or Friday Jan-18th (we would prefer to wrestle Friday and take the extra pound on Saturday morning, but we will accommodate if your team can't wrestle on a Friday).  I would definitely reciprocate the following season for anyone interested.  While also serving as our senior/alumni night, this event is a fundraiser for Cedar Lake Lodge.

If interested, please contact me privately at aaron.riordan@oldham.kyschools.us

    Thanks,

  6. On growth of the sport at the MS level, it seems pretty obvious that the next step is to eliminate club teams from MS competition and kids competing at this level must represent the school at which they attend (or an elementary feeder to that MS such as in the case of 4th or 5th graders wrestling up).  This would cause more MS's to offer programs thereby creating more opportunities for kids from within their own school.  While I understand the issues and hurdles that this would present as far as finding coaches and practice facilities, etc.., , I think this much is somewhat undeniable and our schools (both public and private) need to do a better job of providing these opportunities for our kids.  Please don't assume this is an attack on private schools either as they would have just as much to gain.....if all private MS/Grade schools where to offer wrestling programs, this would only strengthen participation numbers within the parochial school system as well.  If a kid attends a MS which did not offer a wrestling program, couldn't he/she just compete in the youth league under a club team?

  7. All,

Check out the attachments for the list of pools.  Should be a great day of wrestling with some really good wrestlers colliding within the pools and in some of the later rounds as well.  Wrestling is scheduled to start at 10:00am with finals somewhere in the neighborhood of 5:00pm.  Additionally, we have an awesome FCA speaker, Jay Montgomery, scheduled to speak in the auditorium after weigh-ins at 9:15am.  Not sure how much Jay knows about wrestling, but I hear he has a great message and will also be doing some strongman demos involving frying pans and Louisville sluggers!  All wrestlers, parents, fans, and coaches are invited to attend!

    Thanks,

  8. This is one of the best threads I have seen on this forum (apart from the news about Eastern, that is sad to see....).  A lot of wisdom being shared here that we could all learn from.  The one thing I would add to the "List" of things mentioned here that can help your program is to make sure your staff includes at least one teacher or staff member that is in the school building interacting with kids every day!  I know that it isn't always a possibility to find teachers with wrestling experience, but even if we are talking about a volunteer assistant that may know nothing about the sport, but knows how to communicate with kids and sees them every day, I think you will find this person to be invaluable in helping promote the sport within your school and get more kids out.  If you do not know anyone on the staff at your school, start by asking your wrestlers.....maybe then ask your principal.  You will probably be pleasantly surprised at who would be willing to help out if asked.

  9. Wrestlers, Parents, and Coaches,

First night of youth practice went great!  22 little mat rats in all (missing 2-3 that should be back next week).  As you can see, we have a really low coach:wresltler ratio and I plan to keep it that way.   However, I would like to add about 4-5 more guys to this group (preferably some 3rd-4th graders to match some tough little guys we have in this group).  If interested, contact us using the information above.

    Thanks,
