Coach McCoy, I find it ludicrous that the coaches don't get a voice with their input into this situation. Is there any way to bolster the backing of the coaches on this issue? A signed petition by coaches, parents and wrestlers, maybe? If anyone has ideas, please share them!

All, This a big deal! A raw one!!! For what it's worth, below is the email I sent to Mr. Barren. Please urge everyone to comment to him. Mr Barren, It has come to our attention in the wrestling community that the schedule has been set to run the matches for places 1st through 8th place simultaneously, on the final day of the championships. This is a huge disservice to the wrestlers that spend many years in training, make it through a grueling season, and reach the finals. It is a disservice to the true fan of the sport sitting in the stands being forced to choose which match they watch. It is equally a disservice to the college recruiters sitting in the stands trying to make the same choice. Many of these kids that place in the state tournament are looking for and are good enough to receive wrestling scholarships. Taking the opportunity away from focusing on placers 3-8 will only diminish possible opportunities for those kids. For what reason, all in the name of saving an hour and a half or two? I'm hopeful that enough people will point out the mistake that is about to be made and the KHSAA will reconsider it's decision. Please give our sport and these athletes the deserved recognition that goes along with the State Championships. Hold up the State Wrestling Finals (1-2 place) on the pedestal it deserves and give it the solo spotlight! Thank you, Kevin Griffith

Congrats to all four of these guys!! It's been an amazing thing to see the improvement throughout our state! I look forward to seeing the list of our nationally ranked kids grow each year.

Tarzan, CC was certainly disappointing to watch on Saturday. Not much desire and very little intensity. Sitting in the stands I overheard one of the kids say to his parents, "no I'm not sick, I just don't feel good this morning"........ Really, the kids can't be fired up for a match against Trinity in the first round of the STATE DUALS.... Hopefully, things will be different for the State Tournament. Maybe you can shake a few of them by the ankles for us.....oh wait, they don't allow that anymore, haha!

Tapout should mean I forfeit just like in the UFC.

Where could one go to look up the state duals prior history/ results?

South Oldham 03 and CC 04 are neck and neck for the best team ever status. Back to the 04 vs 12 debate, I think Goo got it right! It comes down to one's opinion of what makes a great team. Coach B always strives to make every kid the best they can be and also peak at the end of the season. Would you rather have 8 or 9 state placers and a team championship or 3 or 4 state champs that carry the team to the championship..... It's all just a matter of opinion which is better, in the end it's still a championship.

Anyone care to chime in with the accomplishments of the 04 Woodford team? I'm guessing they were not stagnate team since there was serious talk about them challenging for the team title, up until the State Duals anyway.

I'm a firm believer that if stacked up individual state champs from year to year. You would find that new wins the majority of the time, especially the wider the time span. Now having said that, was the 04 team stronger as whole, maybe..... but would they do of as well if they were thrown into this years State Tournament, probably not...... I will say this, the 04 team was all about winning as a team, they feed off each other like few teams I have ever seen. Having been around wrestling since 1974, one of the most amazing things I've seen was when the 04 team dismantled a solid #2 team at the state duals. Starting out with 9 straight pins and only losing two individual matches. I'm not sure we will ever see that again even with the split divisions.

All I have to say about the old vs new debate is that any of you who believe the individuals or teams of old could win against the individuals or teams of today........ you are dreaming. There are always exceptional individuals such as Carr Jr but they are the exception and not the rule. To say that the 96 team would have won more than a couple of matches is just not reality. I believe you could pick the best Woodford team, or what many consider some of the most dominating teams ever, 04 CC or the Oldham team and they would not have won the state tournament these past few years. It's great for the state as a wrestling fan but I agree with Mpire, to think the oldies would hang with the newbies as a whole, you are just not paying attention to the sport. Just my opinion! :-)

I would agree except that Sean had a most dominating season ever last year and has continued to improve in the off season. I'm not sure what the others on the list have done at Fargo but I'm guessing Sean's finish is the best ever for KY at Fargo? That alone should put him at or near the top of the list regardless of the upcoming season. Just my opinion! Sean is a great wrestler and more importantly a kid with top notch character/ behavior! A true leader by example in his actions and the way he respects others and the sport..... Great job Sean for a more than solid showing in which I'm sure you handled your losses with dignity. Nice way to make your school, you're family, and all that know you very proud! Way to represent KY!!

Coach Carr, do you have an update on the Fargo team? Final roster, how practices are going, etc?
