    Praying for the Carr family

I would like to send my condolences to the Carr family. Sorry to hear of your lose and hope that you make it through this difficult time. Jimmy was a great inspiration to a lot of young people in the sport of wrestling. http://themat.com/section.php?section_id=3&page=showarticle&ArticleID=26862

    Camp Insight Needed

I have spent a lot of time at all kinds of camps both as a clinician and an athlete. I am going to list the pros and cons of the two most common types of camps I have attended. Weekend "power" camps: (better for an individual or a few wrestlers) Pros: Affordable for campers (between $100-200) Short (multi sport athletes, and family vacations in the summer can cause some kids not to be able to attend week long or longer camps. Also, lets face it some kids are just not ready for a week long camp). Usually one clinician pushing their style and mind-set on the sport (throwing tons of moves/ philosophies out there is not always the best for the wrestlers) Cons: Cost of clinician for host school (high profile clinicians can be very expensive $500 and up, personally witnessed $2200 for one day!) Clinician to wrestler ratio (depending on the host school and their ability to provide reputable help to the Main clinician it could be a 100 athletes to 1or 2 coach ratio). One clinician pushing their style (some wrestlers might not fit the mold or have the same style as the clinician so they might only pick up one or two things they "might" try). Limited number of partners (small weekend camps fewer wrestling partners) Week long camps: (better for a whole team or several kids from a team) Pros: Several different Clinicains (this allows a wrestler to pick up several philosophies and techniques) Wrestler to coach ratio (most week long camps, such as those at a college or university require there entire team to be there to help out with the camp) Many partners (usually but not always these types of camps allow for a larger number of campers increasing the odds of a few good partners to wrestle). Cons: Cost (these camps usually run any where from $200-600 depending on accomadations and length) Length (could be hard to get some of your less committed guys to spend a week at a wrestling camp) Quality of clinicians (at a lot of these week long college camps there is one marque clinician who is there for a day and then the rest of the time it is the college wrestlers running the technique sessions ((don't get me wrong most college athletes are very qualified, but some aren't)). Distance (very few of these camps are within "daily" driving distance from say lexington ky pushing the price up because of teh cost of staying at the camp or a surrounding hotel). In my perosnal opionion the best thing you can do for any wrestler is to get them on the mat. If that means as a coach you stay after school for a few hours each day, or you come back at 6:30 and open the room, thats what you do. The way SK, WV, WoodC, and St. X, have open mats is great and if several schools could get together and map out a schedule for each night of the week, our athletes could wrestle everynight!

Why haven't region 1 and region 8 started building brackets in track wrestling?

Any upsets in your region ?

Any upsets in your region ?

I saw some really good wrestling, but steiner completely dominating Adams was the highlight of Saturdays events, but Gus did show heart by wrestling back and beating a very game owens

Any upsets in your region ?

That is good! I think St X is taking 13, but the majority of their brackets only have 6 or so guys in them. I will be glad with the reallignments next year. I know it is a great accomplishment to qualify for state, but if there are only four guys in your weight class at regions all you have to do is make weight and your a SQ! I know wrong topic!!

I thought that track wrestling was supposed to be used for all regional tourneys? You are right I thought about what was written and decided to change it your welcome!

    Region Seeding Meetings

This is why the byes fall where they do. If you place the byes with the seeded guys and a team has a seeded guy at every weight class that team could potentially lose out on a lot of first round matches decreasaing their chances of winning the team title. By randomly drawing the byes in it gives every team a chance to get a fair amount of first round matches.

Do the best really want to wrestle the best???

I am not sure I disagree with the whole post, but wrestling has been a "TEAM" sport since its acceptance into the KHSAA (GOO help me out here!). Have we not crowned a team champion since the mid 60's when the sport was accepted? I know we crown 14 individual champs and that is huge, but every year people brag how they are the team champs, not that they have two individual champs, but placed 7th as a team!!! Trained together, beat the hell out of, taken some beatings, bled with, starved with, ran with, drilled with, lifted with, sprinted with, fist fought, laughed with, enjoyed victory with. THOSE ARE YOUR TEAMMATES!!!!!! As for dodging, you act like this has not happened on all levels in our sport. For example, Tommy Rowlands wrestled HWT every year since his freshman year of college, including all of his international career. Last year he cuts to the weight class below to give himself a better chance at qualifying for the olympics. The "dodgers are not trying for the Olympics, but some are trying for a college scholarship! The first thing a college coach looks at is your state accomplishments, then your national level accomplishments, etc... If you are not a state champ sometimes you are overlooked. Maybe SFausz, Lawson, and Parrot are looking to win a title so they can complete at the next level (and they know they have a better chance in a different weight class).

Covington Catholic to start Wrestling in 2013

I think 11 is a stretch. I know CC won it in 04, 11-4=7. So I would say they probably won it for 7 strait years prior to last year.

    Growth in Wrestling in Kentucky

I will mention a few things that could also contirbute to the growth of the sport in KY. Youth wrestling and youth state Middle school being an association Colleges in the state that offer wrestling as a sport 32 man bracket (I would like to see the numbers and growth prior to 2001-2002. Maybe from the mid 80s through 2000, if there was growth prior to 32 man bracket be instated, we can rule that out as the reason for the growth!!!) Better more qualified coaches

    Cooper- Myers Battle !!!!

Chionuma, an NAIA Champion for Lindenwood in 2011, came in ranked 15th, and an underdog to Iowa’s 6th-ranked Ethan Lofthouse. But Chionuma won 3-2, and gave the edge to the hometown Cowboys who eventually won 18-12 in a dual without a single bonus point. Your opinion is void!!!!!!

    Cooper- Myers Battle !!!!

Ist post since my banishment from KY wrestling over a year ago!!! I have followed all the bs on this site and can't stand to stay quiet anymore. I personally could give two shits about graham or ranger and Mpire's fued. I am only concerned with the topic of this thread the match tomorrow night! I think Myers wins this match easily even if the score seems close. I have seen both of these young men wrestle a few times this year and Cooper has very little effective offense on his feet and bottom has always been his weakness. Kevin has a right handed high crotch, a pull by, and a right handed "half super duck". He is not going to get any of those on the faster Myers. That being said if Myers does not open up he will not score on his feet and this could be a long match 6 minutes +, with very little scoring. My match predictions by period. 1st: no takedowns 2nd: escape cooper, no takedowns 3rd: escape myers, no takedowns sv1: no takedowns, ot1st 30: escape myers ot2nd 30: myers rideout 2-1 myers on the rideout longest most overhyped boring bout of the century!!!!!
