I assume that the Tates Creek duals will be round robin so all participants get 5 matches. What is the format for the Defender Duals?

I've done this topic a couple of times over the years. If you could have a dream match between past and present wrestlers, who would it be and why? Keep this thread fun and light hearted. No since in getting it shut down. To start out, I'd like to see Rodney Hawkins (former Christian Co State Champ) vs Lampe St. X. Something just tells me that this would make for a great match up. I'll take Rodney in a close one. I'd also like to see Tim Lawson (former Henry Clay State Champ) vs Andreoni WC. Talk about technical! Wow! Hammers. I'll take Andreoni in another close one.

Once it was announced by Kevin Jackson that Nathan was red shirting, he was dropped from the rankings.

It didn't take Nathan Boston very long to make a splash on the NCAA scene. In the latest Intermat rankings, the red shirt Iowa State freshman took the #20 spot at 125. I have a feeling that this is just the beginning. Congrats Nathan! Awesome job.

Team scores?

I'm with u Tyson, I'd love to hear some updates, match ups, etc.!

How about Joe Carr Jr. Vs Brock Ervin for the undisputed State Championship.
-
Got to remember, we are talking about Lawson the high school kid, not the college wrestler from EMU. Big difference.

Another former KY high school stand out had a great showing today. Nathan Boston finished Runner-Up today at the NIACC Kaye Young Open. He lost a 3-1 battle in the finals to his teammate Kyle Larson. Congrats Nathan. Great first outing. Can't wait to see what the future holds for you.

Nathan wrestled really good yesterday placing 2nd once again. He beat a familiar foe, Stevan Micic on the way to the finals. I would have loved to see part 3 of that trilogy! He then lost the #3 ranked wrestler in the country. All in all, a great day. Keep it up Nathan.

Nice! Congrats Austin. Decision kind of caught me off guard, I thought you were going to be wearing green and white. I guess navy and gold will be ok too. Lol. I'm sure JoJo likes the decision. Lol.

A lot of coaching changes have been made in this offseason, honestly, there are still many more to go. I am mostly intrigued by 2 changes. Jason Moore to WV and Rob Boston to Fern Creek. Both guys will improve each of those programs, no doubt about it. Coach Roth and Coach Hitchings hit homeruns with both of those hires. My question is who will make the biggest impact with their new team? It doesn't have to be Coach Moore or Coach Boston, those are just 2 that made a big splash with me.

Couldn't agree more firemans34. You never know what circumstances come into play with these desisions. I'm a huge fan of Nathan, and all that he represents. I'm sure he will continue to represent his family, his state, and himself to the fullest. I know that if I had the opportunity to have Rob, Robert, or Nathan in m room, I definitely would!!

Isn't that Damian's son? If so, where did Diion go? Also, if your privy to the info, where is Damian? I haven't talked with him since HS State. I hope both are still involved with the sport. I've got nothing but respect for Coach Leavell. He has always (from high school days thru coaching) been a great person to talk to and exchange ideas with. If you can't share, PM me. If not, I'll just call him. Thanks.

I would guess Woodford would be #1. They have had 60+ State Champs over the years.

I second that motion. John Fahy is easily the best. Can't argue the #'s.

GOO, thanks for the history lesson. Sounds like you have been around a long long long time. I've been around the last 20 plus years. I've seen some really good changes, and I've seen some really dumb things as well. The last thing I want us to do is to go backwards. But, in coming up with solutions to problems, ideas have to be tossed out for people to chew on. Right? I have not, and never will be a fan of the 32 man bracket. If we do what the middle school does, we will have a State Tournament with a 16 man bracket preceded by Districts and Regionals. So doesn't that kind of make your point of about believing just the opposite of me null and void? The follow your man tournaments of old do sound ridiculous. I was suggesting a 16 man bracket where if you lose the first round, your out, period. If you lose 2nd round, you wrestle for 5th-8th. If you lose in the semis, you wrestle for 3rd. Just because you know history, doesn't mean that you have answers. If you can take your history and add ideas, now we are getting somewhere.

The venue issue is a direct result of our post season structure issue. Time to beat a dead horse. No pun intended. It is time to stop the watered down 32 man bracket. We have succeeded in getting our numbers up, wasn't that the goal? So now, I propose to end this 32 man State Tournament stuff. However you want to structure it, Districts, Regionals, State, or Regionals, Semi State, State. Whatever you want to call it, go back to a 16 man bracket. You can do a traditional 2 day tournament or you can knock it down to a one day tournament by eliminating kids that get beat in the first round. I know this isn't the most popular idea, but it does open up a whole new world of venues for us.

Jeremy Gardner has been named Franklin County's new head coach. I'm sure he will do a great job. Any other updates?

That's an outstanding idea. Whatever it takes. This years competitors did a great job. They truly made us all proud. ATM is a man! It's nice when we as a whole come together to cheer for our state, rather than just our home team. Congrats Team KY!
