Thanks Dutch. You know it is a good day when you can get 5 matches in and be home by 4pm. I agree, some very fun matches to watch. Congrats to North Oldham for winning first, they are a class program!!!!!

Great job to Walton for running a first class event. I thought that the officials did a good job and the tourney was ran very smoothly. Awesome matches to watch all day long. -
I agree. I bet we'll see some future state champions out of that group.

Thanks to all the teams that came out and participated it this event. I saw some great matches on Saturday. Other than getting off to a late start, I thought that everything else went very smooth. A big thanks to Adam Lantman and congratulations to Twenhofel for their first place team finish.

I Wish I could have been there, but thank goodness for video. Afer spending the day at Summit View, I went home and watched about 40 more matches from CC. From what I saw, I missed some good ones. However I saw some good matches over at Summit View as well. I'm looking forward to Elkhorn next weekend. I for one am happy to see all the kids on the mat again, looks like it is going to be a great season!!!

We had some very strong competition at this event last season. I’m thinking it will be even better this year. I’m just happy for an event close to home. It will be a great chance to shake the cobwebs out and get ready for our first real matches’ next weekend. Best of times in WV, hope you get to see some good competition as well.

Who is heading up to this tourney? http://www.ohioslargestplayground.com/kiwrestling/

ukpridewrestler11, I mean no disrespect toward Sheffer. I just know that I’ve seen Smith at several off-season tourneys this year as well as watching Smith and my oldest boy battle it out all of last season. I’m sure Sheffer has put in the work. But as I stated before, Smith has some great coaches that will help him to make the adjustments needed to be successful. Also, this thread was asking what match ups will be fun to watch. My opinion only, if I’m wrong so be it. It would not be the first time and I’m confident it won’t be my last mistake either.

With the teams listed above, this is going to be an awesome event! I'd even be willing to go out on a limb and say that this tourney could be even more difficult then our KY state tourney. Great Job Walton for putting together what looks to be one the most difficult tournies of the year! I can't wait! -
I would be interested to see all of the matches above. This season will be here before we know it. I think that once the kids are settled in at their new weights I'd like to revisit this. Plus every year it seems like we get a few wrestlers that reach the state podium that no discusses in advance. That being said, here are a few I can’t wait to see: DeLong Vs. Grandstaff/Peace (keep in mind, Delong is and 8th grader…..I do believe he is going to be much stronger than most if not all the kids he get to face at 70. He is starting his 3rd year and faces very good competition in our wrestling room, he will be ready.) Tucker Vs. Sawyer (battled it out for 5th at 70lbs last year. This will be a fun match to watch) Horton vs. Higdon (Both of these kids are exciting to watch) Yenter vs. Bender (Bender is very strong, he will give Yenter a great match.) Roth Vs. Ervin (Roth 2-time state runner up, this year he gets to the top spot) Wells vs Kraezig I think these two split last year. I watched them wrestle at the State Duels and a week later. These two will be an awesome battle to watch again. Smith vs. Sheffer (Smith is my pick to win it all this year. I know Sheffer is an incredible wrestler, but Smith’s ability to make adjustments will make all the difference. Plus, he has put in the work this offseason.) I am 100% sure that this list will change quite a bit once the kids get settled at their weights. Let’s get it started!!!!!

I think it depends on the level of the wrestler. Kids that have been wrestling for a number of years will get more out of camps. Most of the things that are taught at camps the kids have learned through regular practice, therefore it helps to hone the overall skill level. That being said, kids that are new or newer to the sport need to get matches under their belts. I learned much more from my losses than I ever did from winning. I don’t think you can go wrong with a healthy balance of both tourneys and camps. This way, with the skills built at a camp, every wrestler has a chance to use what has been taught at the camp in real time match situations, which is much different than a practice partner only going 50-75%.
