State Duals Info/ Section Alignment
coachteater replied to coachteater's topic in High School Wrestling
Updated Sectional alignment and section leader list. (Fyi, we added all teams listed in trackwrestling by khsaa, requardless of if we know they are not wrestling at this time) -
Many have heard that coach Jim Matney of Johnson Central is in the hospital and needing prayers. This is the original post I saw this weekend, followed by some updates. We all wish the best for coach and for a full recovery. Prayers going out to him,his family, and the Johnson Central community.

Been that way in those sports forever. If you split wrestling now, it opens up splits to all sports. Thats the argument i was told. I call it poor management. If wrestling needs it, do it. Then if others want it, say no. You just have to have reasons why to split wrestling and not others.

I think you would see less regions, like west Virginia. They are kind of a hybrid. A/aa has around 65 teams total, they wrestle together and there's 4 regions. Aaa has around 32 teams, 4 regions. They wrestle seperate from a/aa. Interested about wv, they have around 90 teams, but only 180 public schools almost half wrestle. Population 1.8 million Ky has 120 wrestling and 443 public schools. Population 4.5 million

What I dont think many realize is why we want the split. Its not about the competition, its about the growth. Its proven to promote growth in many states, and that is a positive. In my opinion (which isnt always right) the positive affect and growth is worth the affects a split has on competition. Will it water it down so, yes, at first. But competition level will continue to get tougher. Because people cant stand the thought of multiple state champs, they want to hold the overall growth back. Honestly what do it hurt having 2 classes and 2 champions at each weight? Is it just egos that drive the need for 1 champion, just to say your the best? Thats worth hurting the growth of the sport as a whole? Maybe im missing something, but that pretty much seems to be the only argument I get for staying 1 class. But in the end, doesnt much matter, khsaa wont split.

Also hear east carter and pendleton co wanting to add soon And Eastern in Louisville looking for a coach to start program back I just heard

Funeral arrangements for Coach Matney

Khsaa should have new competition rules out by season start on the website, but its my understanding it will be like last year. The khsaa wanted to make sure that 32 kids still reached "state" which semi state is part of. So points roll over and no semi state medals. Once again, thats my understanding, I been wrong before. (Like twice , lol)

Its with heavy heart I pass along the news that Coach Jim Matney has passed away. He touched so many lives in a positive way, including mine. Please pray for his family and for all affected by the loss of a great man. Rest easy, coach.

State Duals Info/ Section Alignment
coachteater replied to coachteater's topic in High School Wrestling
Sections will remain the the same, except maybe a couple slight changes due to teams adding. Sections have always been done independently from region. They were aligned by geography. We were hoping to meet at clinic, but was not time. We will have a zoom very soon to add the new teams in and move any that need to be. As soon as we do, we will update website and I will post as well -
9/24- No real changes
-
My understanding it will be 1-4, 2-3
