I posted something about the problem before the season started and I took a beating. I think that if a MS kid moves in from another state, they should be required to wrestle one season at the middle school level and than move up the following season. For example...if an 8th grader moves to KY, he can only wrestle the MS schedule. His 9th grade year he could wrestle Varsity. This would stop those that move in and leave. Again, this is not a Woodford County problem. It is a State problem. Unfortunately, the only way to get it changed is to get an AD to wirte a proposal and the Board of Control accept it.

I will be glad to explain hos members were chosen. First and foremost, there were no politics or favoritism involved. We went down the list of state placers and removed the seniors. We than sent invites to the coaches of the wrestlers that finished highest. One of the requirements to be part of Blue or Red was that the Coach needed to be a member of the Coaches Association. The reason for this is because the KYWCA funded the team by paying the entry fee, etc. That being said, the deadline to join the Coaches Association ended in January. Yet we allowed to coaches to join prior to the duals so that the kids could be on the team. If we did not hear back from a coach or kid, we began filling in holes the best we could. I personally had to reach out to several teams to get holes filled. We also had a hole on the Red team that was filled but on the Saturday prior, that wrestler backed out to wrestle for the Mudcats. How is that in our control? Bottom line, we need coaches to support the growth of KY Wrestling and that starts by supporting the Coaches Association. The coaches association has come along way since the days of the past by offering several benefits for coaches who join. We also need coaches to help us with this by getting info out to the kids on their team.

I was there and will tell you that Austin looked great. One thing that hurt his chances for MOW is that the Blue team fell to the Silver Pool. This is no fault of Austin but I do think that he was overlooked for that reason. There were several slams and I went to talk to the official about Hudson's. I agree that had I thrown a fit, I would have been asked to leave. Overall it was a great tournament. Team KY lost a lot of strong talent that are seniors but those that went wrestled tough and represented KY well.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a USA Wrestling Guy. I support USA Wrestling to the fullest. That being said, I do feel like that Kentucky as a whole does not really follow the USA Wrestling model. Let me explain. USA Wrestling supports our Olympic Athletes and one of their goals is to build USA Wrestling into a World Power in the areas of Freestyle and Greco Roman. In Kentucky, we do not do much of that. How can we improve that? I have heard NUWAY supports only Folkstyle in their organization. Is Kentucky big enough for both? Would Kentucky benefit from both? I don't know the answer. I would love to hear pros and cons of both.

I agree. Keith has been great for our sport and has really been a great contributor with USA Wrestling. I meant no disrespect toward Keith or USA. I just wanted to see the options. Figured I would get a good, civil discussion going about something relating to spring and summer wrestling.

It is my fault Coach Founder didn't allow kids to move. As someone who has ran many tournaments for many years, once you allow kids to wrestle in two weights or age groups you run into problems. 1. Everyone wants to do it and than 2. kids back out because they have to wrestle back to back. Central did a great job hosting. Kudos to Coach Founder and his staff. And T Reynolds. ...enough is enough with the hate. It was an isolated incident.

I do think it is important for people to know about dangerous situations, however we also need to include ALL of the facts. Is it close to Central? Sure. But it is also close to Jeffersonville HS. This event started on a bridge at the water park and stayed closer to the water park than it did Central HS. This was also done in retaliation to an incident that occurred on our transit system buses. With the level of police presence in the downtown area raised I would say this won't happen again. And if it did I'm not sure why they would love to jump wrestlers. And yes....I know Jeffersonville HS is further away. I was just making a point that this happened at the river.

Austin Myers will be one of the greatest wresters in Kentucky History. Hands Down. I think the reason he is not included yet by some is that his book is not completely written. The others mentioned have finished their careers.

Austin's run was impressive. My kid only lasted 33 seconds in the semis. The only performance I would put above it for a one tournament show was George King (171) from Union County in 2000. He won MOW of the tournament, fastest pin of the tournament, and most pins in least amount of time. All of this without the hype. Was under the radar until State for the most part.

Message from the KYWCA President concerning the State Final Time Table Change (02/12)
cmccoy posted a topic in 2014 Season
As you have seen, the KHSAA has changed the time table to allow the finalists who have worked to get there to be the main show. They are going to have a one mat final. In order to make this happen, 3rd, 5th, and 7th will be wrestled on six mats. That means two weight classes at once. We as coaches need to flexible in allowing assistants to cover situations that may require a team to be on two mats at once. As fans and parents we need to be thankful that this is part of a solution to save time yet still have a one mat final. Also, we as coaches, fans, and parents need to talk to our teams about the celebration prior to the finals and highly discourage it in any form. It has become a serious safety issue. People were hit with rolls of toilet paper, etc that lead to broken bones, etc. Many of the parents and coaches that wrote the KHSAA mentioned the one mat final used in the NCAA's and other states. One thing to remember, other states and the NCAA's do not have the chaos before the finals like we had in the past. As someone who sees it from the floor, it does get out of control and unsafe. Again, the KHSAA is working with the KYWCA, parents, and fans. Please be flexible and help stop the "party" before the finals. Those are the main concerns the KHSAA had in the first place. Time and safety. I am very thankful they were able to make this change for our sport. Let's show we appreciate it by helping with the two issues above. Chris McCoy KYWCA President -

Tristin Garcia from Male was a runner-up. It is a great class. To bad we won't get to see them all by the time they are seniors.
-
Let's hear them. Top teams and wrestlers at each weight.
