  1. That was pretty much the point ,missing a not so important dual for the ACT would not be that big a deal ,Missing the Rumble or any big tourny when you are a starter for your team in KY and that team is depending on you for the W or even if your just an above average guy trying to get noticed for some ranking cred and a shot at getting noticed is another thing all together .There seem to be many opportunities to take the ACT only four in your life to get it done at each tourny if your a starter .oh i forgot in KY jr high kids get a shot LOL well 4 5 or 6 if your Brock LEvel

  2. I didn't see it, but it sounds like the Raider Rumble did not disappoint with a lot of big matchups and plenty of "upsets" (or maybe just kids showing the hard work they have put in).  We still have a long way to go before the showdown at the horsepark and I'm sure plenty of kids will make some weight changes, but here is an early update to spark some debate.  A couple of notes:

    1) As a result of CC/St X looking a little vulnerable at a couple weights, I think Union has established themselves as the clear favorite at this point in both dual and tournament formats.  Woodford has put themselves right in the picture for runner up and potentially as a title contender.

    2) Only 182 had a shakeup at the top and 182 looks like it could be a barnburner if all of these guys stay put.  I'm not sure where Smith will end up (170 or 182), so there is still a lot in flux at this weight.

3 others to watch (not to win the state tourney but be ranked possibly in the top 9-12 in the 182's). The top 8 (Right now unless someone drops like Mikey Smith or Courtney or Frankrone Mattews from the Rumble at Ryle and non Ryle Rumblees Devin Smith, Braden Jones, Mike Saunders and Jake Fooks (if Jake is wrestling 182 this year and not 195) on any given match can beat each other. Yes the 182's are strong ! The 3 sleepers that arn't ranked in Rangers rankings are .. Brandon Devens (Boyle County) John Blythe (Franklin County) Christian Bowlings (Montgomery County) . There will be more as I learn about who's what and where etc.. but keep an eye out on these guys !

The 170's are just crazy this year and it's hard to predict who will end up where. Some of the top ranked guys like M Smith, Jacob Warwick,Derek Hicks etc are wrestling 182 but look for one or even 2 of them to drop after Christmas and the 2 pounds are added.

With Parrot coming back down to wrestle 195's that really leaves a 3 horse race with him, Thompson and Miller and I'd take them in that order. Saunders and Morrow are also very good but look for one of the strong 182's to possibly jump to 195 as well to even out the studs so to speak... Good luck all and have a great season !

Have to agree with you CC seemed as if it would be very tough this year even with a couple studs n state finalists and champs missing from last yr ,

Not so sure now they seem to be in dissaray but did not come together till around mid season last yr ,ONE thing for certain everyone not taking the sport seriously or thinking they can skip this tourny or that one for any reason is not good for a team or its chances ,Time to man up ,

HEard so many kids were out taking acts duiring the rumble i know school is school but if your a wrestler and care for the sport schedule your ACT at another time ,not duiring one of the states biggest tournaments ,like who misses a playoff game to take an act duiring football season its hillarious .

  3. Smith won 182 at the Rumble in the toughest class there ,Meiman was beaten badly at 170 by a good wrestler but still showed very little as far as being able to upend a top notch wrestler who wants it ,that i think all four of the top guys at 182 are If any of them drop ,I would take Smith as of right now in that match up and Courtney and Frankrone as well if they drop,Mathews will remain at 182 either because of weight or his team outlook and he can win either 182 or 170 on a good day .

  4. Of Course ,i am a fan of his ,I would love for Austin to have someone simply to drill with not just wrestle ,i think proper drilling is so important ,not many kids want to learn the sequences and spend the time going over and over the moves , A great idea ,Austin is a bit bigger as far as wrestling goes but thats fine height wise and sise wise they would be great partners .Wed they have duals ,sun we will try and make it .I have another big guy who may come from Cincy not sure he is a smaller hvy but a hard worker ,at least when dads around lol

Spatola knows his stuff as well and is simply a cool coach .

  5. Thats who i thought thats cool ,CC has a dual against Lasalle Middletown and Reading WED at LAsalle i believe ,so wed is out ,perhaps sunday if Austin is not beat up from pickerington sat  .wich he shouldnt be ,no one in ohio wants any .

  6. 182 is the toughest class in the state if everyone stays there ,any of the four top kids i saw at the rumble could win state there or possibly completely dominate 170 if they dropped ,I think Mathews and Frankone stay for sure ,not sure about smith i would say hes there as well of the four Courtney looks as if he could make the drop easisest but who knows .doubt any of them go up but they could probably do damage there as well .

  7. He didnt seem to totally gas just an observation that if he was in a little better cardio shape as in any tough match or tourny with ot and close matches it will make the difference ,as physically impressive as he appears and obviously has to be ,he looks like a college wrestler already ,a good stance but seems to be back a bit on his heels straight up and down where a brave or equally physically impressive wrestler like himself might try to charge him and simply bowl him over ,but i doubt he sees anyone like that hes a tank from top to bottom ,i love it ,and i saw his eye yesterday he had a big old bruise ,once again he looked like a college wrestler Already .,He looks like a state champ to me another wrestler to be proud of "KY POWER "

  8. For a kid who didnt wrestle last yr Erdmann looked and did extremely well ,nice to see him getting back to where he needs to be.

Glen Este looked very good .

This was Mathews second tourny not first and he looked a little rusty but improved from his last tourny ,Turner did look rusty ,

Unions hvy is very entertaining and wrestles above what one would expect like his throws ,not sure he can hit them against Young though ,If he hit the weights hard for a few months he could be very very exciting .Frankrone is a beast seems he is a calculating wrestler when in his stance and focused he seems he would be very very hard to beat ,at times he would back up and stand up as most wrestlers do that was his only real weakness i saw other than he may have gassed a bit ,Mathews seems to crack when he doesnt get his call no use arguing or getting upset /losing your head just keep wrestling ,

Logan jones came out looking great in his finals match Lampe did not look as sharp as last yr Jones missed his shot at Lampe i believe because i am sure he tightens up after last night ,jones took some pretty bad shots after his first success in the match  a big mistake .

Kowal is a good /very good wrestler who totally dominated Meiman without even going into his upper gears ,if Frankone or Courtney drop to 170 it will shake things up quite a bit

Glen este won fairly easily ,CC is rusty not at all their weights and with a starter down .

In my opinion no one else will be close to CC at state other than Union when they get Brock and Trae back and even then they will not overtake the Camels .X is not the same team as last yr woodford looks stronger in tournament format but will not be able to overtake CC,

  9. Mickey Smith showed a lot of heart and won a tough class winning some close matches all 4 of the top 182s had close matches /win or lose a tough class for sure .And whoever won it could surely have gotten an OW depending on what you consider an OW .

Austin who is not ranked sixth in anything LOL 4th by win and 5th by intermat and the highest ranked 220 jr in the nation with wins over num 2 in the nation ,pinned his semis opponent in 15 sec and his finals opponent a KY state placer and 2nd ranked kid in the state a former toc finalist and champ i believe in 31 seconds ,This was the biggest tourny he will be in close to home and in NKY he went out to wrestle his best and he easily dominated his class more so than anyone in the tournament not only this yr but last yr as well ,

You could give an ow to someone winning a tough class in OTs or whatever or you could give an OW to the most talked about wrestler or you could do the right thing and give it to the best damn wrestler in the room on that day ,hardest working day in day out who beat up or not shows up and brings it .

To be honest if anyone else in the room trained as much as often or as hard at all aspects of this and whatever sport they participated in they could have dominated as he did and does ,no reason to keep his just rewards from him because he does it easier than the rest on game day for a reason .

  10. Mickey Smith ,way to go very very impressive ,stud and great kid ,

Great comp ,not going to mention the format ,still the best regular season tourny around ,

some kids looked a bit Rusty ,

Others looked sharper than expected :)

    Glen Este

    CC

    Woodford

i will still take CC at state ,And i will take Austin Over any 220 that was wrestling in Ohio tonight .

I think the two OWS at the rumble would have came back with W from the Iron MAN

  11. Not sure when it is a couple weeks after xmas i think ,Austin had a couple Ohio ranked guys there who placed last yr he gave up one score on a slip from a two on one one of only two he gave up in season last yr but he had no real trouble with anyone ..Tegray could be different im sure there are some in Ohio who would love to see Their num 1 beat Austin and others who still consider him their num 1 LOL ,Colerain was always good to us even after we left a great place with a great AD and good wrestling history /not in wins but in class and caring a great place to start .But I would want Austin to handle things of course .

Yes Trevor and Austins match was very exciting for a very short time ,as for Austin he was clean from the get go just think Trevor was a caged tiger and came after it ,it was all good and what one would expect but as for the out come i dont think it made it to the second period if so i know it never made the third .

And i give the edge to Austin against Tegray ,Austin has been the best Wrestler in cincy since he was six and won state as a first yr wrestler ,then won state at the first ever oac grade school state the next yr ,then went on and on and on best record in grade school best in Jr high and now best in HS ,

    HE will not lose .

Tegray is at Iron Man and its very likely he leaves a better wrestler but not Ohio num 1 at 220 ,and despite some peoples jabs about kys best being at ironman i think Austin could and would leave Iron Man still undefeated if he was 100%,And i think Kys best should be at the Rumble pumping up in state tournys rather than out of state where their fate is not always in their own hands but those of some bias officials ,not just my ranting but a fact that any parent coach or wrestler who watched all the matches in ohio last yr with KY teams in it could back up ..Either way Austin went undefeated in Ohio last yr had five staright pins at gmva and beat every ranked ohio kid he wrestled easily at one point or the other ,the last ohio kid to beat Austin is wrestling at Ohio state .

    enough propaganda LOL

Last yr i would have said Trae could give Boston a match this yr i am not so sure NOT because Boston won a big match and got ranked first but because i saw him wrestle months back and hang with and actually beat very good bigger wrestlers who i think would handle Trae ,not taking sides and i havent seen trae since nat duals JMO .

As for Tegray dropping im not so sure he has some thunder and to knock off ATM would launch him into the rankings and make him a state hero ,the guys in the south in ohio are usually bullied by the north it wont be another of their guys to take a fall so they will push for it ,for ATM its another shot at a state num 1 and a chance to flip the haters in OH the Byrd ,as for Tegray he and his cousin Orlando are friends of Austins always have been ,good people .

Austin could drop to 195 as well i think he actually certified for 180 whatever it is ,but he will remain 220 in season

  12. Scales from Colerain is ranked num 1 in Ohio thats pretty good ,Scales and Austin should meet up at Fairfield old friends and two state num 1s , im sure with all the Austin bashing done on some of the ohio boards he will be training hard for it as will Scales ,Just as im sure he will now consider his match with Trevor a measuring stick ,two Ky friends and sometime partners who should make finals they didnt look friendly in last yrs match at the Rumble they looked like two wrestlers out to win ,it will be a good one again .

  13. Either way regardless of a couple at Iron Man and a few top teams missing , The majority of Kys best will be at Ryle this weekend the nations top ranked HS wrestler at 120 ,and the nations top ranked 220lb Jr and 2x nat champ along with a Fargo AA and a handful if state ranked number ones ,everyone competing in one of the best if not the best tournament in the state ,
