    6. McCracken Co., welcome to the party! For those of you with your head in a hole somewhere, Coach Nickal and his program are quickly becoming elite. They WILL WIN A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN THE NEXT 3-5 YEARS! You can bet on that.

I'll take this bet.  They are building a nice program no doubt about that.  My money is on Union until someone knocks them off.  In two years you better start worrying about the City of Union.  HOME OF THE RYLE RAIDERS!!!

Having trouble quoting on the site.  I'm not sure what is going on.

  2. When a wrestler from Region 4 gets dq'd he has to forfeit his placement and is not allowed to compete at state.  I'm sure since he is the youth president and it's not someones agenda it will be overlooked and he will be allowed to coach at state.  He couldn't even follow instructions yesterday.  After he was kick out all he did was come back in and go to the stands.

All I read about is the need for growth in Kentucky, improving against good competition and trying to wrestle more against good competition,  and now coaches are holding kids out for a chance against stronger competition.  That is kind of sad.

There will be strategy at State Duals.  That is a fact.  We will put our best kids on the mat to give us the best chance of winning.  What we will not do in that process is affect their seed for the State Tournament.  Our team will not show up just to say we went!  We are in it to win it.  State Duals are fun, but the bigger picture is winning the overall title the following week.   All wrestlers are not created equal!!!  Some kids need our help to get them in the best position to win.

  4. We finally have weight classes.  With only 1 week of updates left I changed it up this week.  I listed my top 10 for each weight class.  If a wrestler is listed they finished top 4 in their region.

With Ryle's results at regionals they pulled ahead of Walton.  Walton drops a spot to #3 behind Carr.  The Raiders had a strong showing with 8 Regional Champions, qualifying 23 wrestlers,  and 3 alternates.

    7. Post season roll-up plan – any open slot in a region or state tournament bracket will be filled via the following roll-up plan regardless of the reason for the opening (includes missing weight) a. Individual State – 5 th place in same region, 5 th place in another region as determined by the following rotation plan: Region 2, Region 1, Region 3, Region 4

I have been told otherwise. I have asked the question if you have a kid that finishes fourth at middle school region but decides to wrestle youth state he/she can opt out of middle school state giving their position to the alternate and wrestle youth state. Response was yes they can.

You are correct.  He was messing with me.  They can wrestle this weekend and they have until the step on the scale at Middle School State to decide what they want to do.  Top 4 this weekend will not lock them into the middle school tournament.

That's why I said my kid said he hopes he places 5th! He knows he doesn't stand a chance to place at state but still wants to wrestle hard at regionals for his team. Like I said before a rule that forces an 11 year old kid to think like that is stupid. He should just be able to go out and wrestle hard and let the chips fall where they may and not be penalized for being successful.

Agreed. Come to the meeting. Cast your vote. Democracy wins. Simple as that. Maybe in the spring, we can revisit these “issues” but until then, it is what it is. Read the bylaws...don’t be that person the clicks “I agree” just to get it over with. Read. The. Literature. Come to the meetings and let your voice be heard.

So it's black and white?  If a wrestler doesn't wrestle in the YOUTH regional tournament he doesn't get to wrestle at state?  Below is from the bylaws.

Every wrestler is required to have competed in a KFWC sanctioned regional tournament in order to participate in the Youth State Tournament.

  9. When you search this all it gives you is the alternative uniform information.  Will wrestlers have to make scratch weight?  Do they have to wear singlets for weigh ins?  Do females get .7?

    5. Weigh in procedure – all wrestlers are required to weigh in wearing their competition uniform as defined by NFHS Rule 4-1-1.

  10. Sounds like we could have a few 12 man brackets at middle school state this year.  Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.  If a wrestler finishes top 4 at the middle school regional tournament and then decides they like their chances in the youth tournament they can do that?  If we fill the bracket with an alternate, they become in ineligible?

I personally think that if you place at the middle school State Tournament you should not be able to wrestle in the Youth State Tournament! ..

Top 6 Wrestlers at State, Who medal in his or her perspective weight should be ineligible. .

But if you DON'T medal. ... I think you should be allowed to participate in Both Youth and Middle School State Tournaments!

Curious if there is NO school all week.... Will Middle School Regions offer an additional pound.

If they do give a extra pound due to weather?

Would that extra pound carry over to State?

I think we will see a pound this weekend too many schools off and not able to practice.  They will not give a pound for state because they gave it this weekend.  So if a kid is going to drop because they gave a pound they better make sure they can make weight for state.

  12. Yes,  Dutch I brought it up only because I didn't see the rule change.  When it was top 4 I didn't agree with it but it seemed like a good compromise.  Two years later it's placers.  Now if you qualify, REALLY just qualifying will eliminate a kid from wrestling with kids his age.  I'm just not sure how this promotes growth.

When you watch kids bust their tails all year and they have to choose between Youth and Middle School I doesn't make sense to me.  We have 2 kids that will not compete in the Middle School tournament and wrestle in a watered down Youth State because of this.  Both kids would most likely go 1-2 or maybe 2-2 in the Middle School Tournament.  How are we growing by making these kids choose?  By making teams and parents choose we are watering down both tournaments.

  13. Without knowing what kids have dropped this is where the team standings are now.

    Club Teams

    1.  Walton

    2.  Ryle

    3.  Carr

Before bonus points I have Ryle leading.  Walton should score more bonus points and pull ahead.  I'm a Ryle Homer so everyone should know how hard it was putting Walton ahead of us.  With the injuries to Duke and Belk it will be hard to cover those points.

    School Teams

    1.  McCracken

    2.  Woodford

    3.  Johnson

  14. Are you serious?  if you make middle school state as a 5th or 6th grader you get punished and can't wrestle youth?  I'm not sure how this helps promote or grow the sport way to take a huge step back Kentucky.

    B. Every wrestler is required to have competed in a KFWC sanctioned regional tournament in order to participate in the Youth State Tournament. Additionally, any wrestler that participates (excludes alternates who do not make it into the tournament) in the KFWC Middle School State Tournament cannot wrestle in the KFWC Youth State Tournament.

Ryle's dual team isn't even the best in the county. Conner should have beaten them last night. Sam Grandstaff had Cole Thomas pinned three separate times with no whistle and I didn't realize you could show a ref video replay to award points.

Even if the Ref calls the pin Ryle still wins.  The final was 38-31.  I will say the Conner Coaching staff made some nice adjustments against Ryle to give them favorable matchups.  At the end of the day Ryle has gotten the best of Conner twice this year.  The future is looking up for the Raiders.  3-8th graders in the lineup against Conner last night.

Just a possible update to your 140 rankings; Lane Kiser is a 6th grader and he beat Trinity Gottler in a match earlier this season. He also finished 3rd at the Woodford County Middle School tournament. He lost to Lucas Embleton at that tournament, but the kid he beat for 3rd place pinned Trinity at the tournament.

Thanks for the information.  Sounds like we leave it as is for now and see how it plays out over the next couple weeks.

Phillips loses to Fletcher at 130lbs. Tisen Moore remains undefeated  and somehow gets passed by Phillips in the rankings?  Can someone explain how this works? I'm not saying it's wrong, just trying to understand.  Tisen just beat the #2 wrestler in West Virginia 7-0 and pinned the #10 wrestler in ky in 47 seconds.  I'm just trying to understand howa  kid with loses passes undefeated kids in rankings. I'm not sure if these are the rankings used to set up the brackets for state but if they are I just want my boy to get his due. That's honestly the only I'm curious.

I went back and forth with this one.  The main reason I switched them is Phillips has had tougher matches.  If you have the information on West Virginia rankings I would love to see them.  I've looked and I can't find them.

Glenn Mayes with Union Co listed in 105lbs has wrestled all season from 113lbs to 121lbs but weighed in over the weekend at Jon Davis Middle School tourney in Illinois at 118.5lbs.

Thanks for the updates.  He should have been listed at 113.  He has been wrestling high school at that weight.

Couple more updates.  I double checked and unfortunately Miracle's season is over.

I always appreciate you putting these together, but I do sometimes wonder how you get the kids ranked where they are? I know most of it probably comes from track and where they place. I know with there being a lot of Dual meets this year it would be hard to keep up with who beat who and whatnot. Asking not out of disrespect but out of genuine curiosity. We follow the season pretty closely and its sometimes hard when you see a kid that your kid beat on more than one occasion ranked higher than him. That being said I like him seeing that and making sure he puts the work in to prove he is earning his spot in the rankings.

It's hard to get results.  I come on here just about every time I put out rankings asking for results.  This doesn't work without your help.  98 is very even after the top few kids.  Your boy had a nice tournament at the Brawl and will be just fine.  I'm pretty sure your son has also lost to the same kid ahead of him at your tournament.  If I have the wrong person I'm sorry in advance.
