With kids moving away or moving up to High School this is the best I can do. I think Kelsay, Mayer, and Shackelford will all be heavier than 105. I’m not even sure if Noah can make 98.     I agree Cov Cath is a great option. They are a new club with great coaches. The only problem is a kid has to either attend a catholic school or attend CCD/PSR classes. The best option is if this happens we form a Kenton Co Club Team.

    Thanks for the info Ranger. I hope it all works out and we don't have 60 middle school kids looking for a place to wrestle. If it doesn't work itself out at least the parents will know where to look.

    Team Kentucky

    This was a great experience for our boys/girl. I would like to thank all the coaches, team moms, and parents for making this happen. We are already looking forward to next year. I'm just wondering if there is anything we can do as a state to build the best teams possible? IMO we should build from the bottom up. If a kid is a youth wrestler leave him/her with the youth team. There is a bigger pool of parents willing to travel with a Middle School kids than youth kids. In no way is this a complaint just trying to start conversation about a great tournament and ways to improve it for our future teams.

    Its on track wrestling. They are making 2 teams I'm sure there will be some changes all you have to do is look at the brackets. The top 2 at each weight.

    95 will be a fun weight class to watch. As of right now you have 3 middle school SQ and a 4th boy that won his middle school district but couldn't make it out of the region.

    Is it possible with the low numbers to change it to just one session? This would save some families some money if we held weigh-ins at 10:30 and just wrestled in the afternoon. With 2 full mats we could still get through this very fast.

    Imo the location of this event has killed it before it had a chance to get off the ground. If this was in a central location we would see more parents involved. It should have either been in Lexington or Louisville. It doesn't have to be held in a gym. The only thing needed is a practice room with two mats down.

    Elementary Team Kentucky

    A lot of the information is here just looking for a little more. This is less than three weeks away. Will there be a flyer? What time is it starting? With the way it is set up is this a true second tournament? Is there an address? ELEMENTARY TEAM KENTUCKY For the first time, the Kentucky State Wrestling Association will field an Elementary Team Kentucky to compete nationally. The goal is to field three teams through a trial tournament to be held on 01 March 2014. Two teams will be sent to compete at the Heartland USA National Elementary Duals Tournament in Ralston, Nebraska. An additional team will be fielded to compete in Kingsport, TN at AAU Elementary National Dual Tournament. Each tournament has its own unique grade requirements and weight classes, so a tournament of overlapping or adjusted weight classes will be utilized to construct the teams. Primary objective is to place in the top 3 of the tournament. Some 4th place finishers will be alternates. TRIALS TOURNAMENT When: 01 March 2014 Where: John Hardin High School Who: Grades K-6th Weight Classes: 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, 105, 110, 120, 130, 140, 160, 190, 230 Top 3 Placers will be given first priority for teams.     Numbers are still low. When will the determination be made to go forward or cancel? I just cant justify driving 3 hours one way staying in a hotel for my boys to wrestle one other kid.

    I agree with you guys totally! I'm just trying to get the information out there so we can field a team. If parents are not aware than we will have gaps in the line up. Will an email be sent out to all the coaches? Will information be at the State Tournament? I'm looking forward to this it will be a great experience if my boys can make the team.

    This all sounds great. The other thing I think should be added is age and grade. IMO I don't see the need for a 7th grader to wrestle in a youth tournament. It should be K-6 plus the age cut off.

    You are comparing a bracket tournament to a duel. They are two totally different animals. I'm getting on my soap box about our state tournament.

    If you do a little research you will find that most of your youth duels are K-6. Maybe you should have done a little research before you entered this tournament for your kid. Maybe you should have found a Novice tournament for your little Johnny and he could have came home with a first place medal. If you want your kid to advance he/she will have to face some of the best our state has to offer. Thank you Ranger for putting this together for us.

    Middle School kids? I'm sure baby Moore isn't a Middle School kid. I'm sure if you look at their middle school roster they are not all 7th and 8th graders. You may be upset that your wrestler didn't do as well as you would have liked. The last time I checked middle school is 7th and 8th graders, K-6 is still elementary. We are just one of the lucky states that allow our YOUTH kids to wrestle middle school.
