    Stephen Myers.

Looking at the facts it would seem obvious that Stephen Myers should have won the award. However, other facts come into play. Those are called the facts of life (yep, ripped it from another thread)

Yenter had a great showing, he would most likely place in OH DI. He beat a few of Ohio's better wrestlers in Windsor and especially Byrd. I firmly believe that CC would have won this event with the transfers. CC may win it next year. BTW, Deeter took 5th (and not in OH, just in GMVWA) losing to Glen Este kid. Is your belief that Ky top 3 vs OH top 3 is a close match up? Or are you stating that Ky top 3 vs GMVWA is a close match up. One is false, the other is true.

Take the blinders off fellas. You talk of the smack down CC put on Glen Este. Please follow up with Glen Este's results at the big show. 2011 ZERO points. 2010 ZERO points an exactly NO qualifiers. 2009 43rd place. More to chew on: Fairfield Invite, 2012 CC took 7th (w/out the transfers albeit) and 2011 took 6th. At 2011 state Fairfield took 21st, Centerville 15th, Loveland 46th. These teams along with McCallie and Lorain finished ahead of CC at the Fairfiled Invite. 2011 Sycamore Invite, Ryle 3rd and Cooper 14th. Sycamore took first, Colerain second. At state these teams went well........neither scored a single point. Head to head? Moeller Super Duals. 2010 both St X and Trinity went 1-3 each. X got thumped by Wadsworth 67-12, and Elyria 66-8. Trinity got hammered by Mason 50-13, and Elyria 53-9. At State Wadsworth took 3rd, Elyria 16th, and Mason 17th. The 2011 version at Moeller was about the same as Xgot trounced by Moeller 73-6 and Fairfiled 59-11. Mason skunked Trinity 60-0. At the Charlie Moore (Reading) CCtook 2nd to Reading. Reading competes in the smallest school division (III) and placed 16th. The state's #1 DIII team more than tripled their score. One person on this site called SWOWCA "Tougher than the Kentucky state tournament." Nobody argued. Well, Ryle took 8th and Simon Kenton 13th in 2010. This is a predominantly southwest Ohio tournament. GMVWCA is a decent tournament. CC took 3rd behind state #15 Centerville and state #10 (in Div II no less) Wash Courthouse. Ryle finished behind Wayne (state 56th). Now, the transfers at CC will most definitely make a huge impact in the Ohio tournaments. This is great. We all get better when one gets better. I pull for the entire region. I want Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, and Pennsylvania to continue to grow. I see the balance of power shifting ever so slightly to the west. Minnesota hosts The Clash. Wisconsin has Cheesehead. These are nationally recognized events and the host states fare well. We grow together as a region, but please take off the blinders.

Will Brock be the first 5 timer in KY

Give Myers an entire year on the mat and you will see why. Cooper is imho the best wrestler in the state right now.

    State Team Scores

Okay, I agree with some of what you have said here. Stephen did look big, imagine how he would have looked had he been able to drop down a class. He was very dominant at 52 without cutting. I can only imagine what he would have done to the field down a weight. Same for Austin. As for holding kids back. Like it or not, it was done within the rules. I never held any of my kids back. My son did not turn 21 until after his junior year of college! I looked beyond wrestling though and saw the big picture called life. He was/is mature and I saw no reason to hold him back. My belief is that holding a kid back should be done ONLY for social/educational purposes. Perhaps this was why Austin was held back.

    Kentucky's Most accomplished wrestler

Yes, Ohio had more to do w/ Taylor's progression as a wrestler than Wyoming. He also teched Pierce this year in the PSU-N'west dual.

    Match of the Century

and at the lower division, howsabout Robin (from Batman fame) vs Tonto (ya know, Lone Ranger). I say Tonto throttles Robin. Tonto was a tough kimosabe, and Robin was more of the "confirmed bachelor" type.

Brought to you by Jack Links Beef Jerkey no doubt. My favorite one is when Bigfoot drops the big air biscuit on the campfire and blows everybody away.

Give the boys a full year and it will be very scary. I was only able to watch the finals so my take on their performance is somewhat muted. I thought Stephen overwhelmed his opponent. He hit shots from everywhere. Austin was more difficult to get a handle on as Newberry "turtled up". Newberry gutted it out on a bad wheel, I give him credit for that. Newberry seemed content to not get pinned. I would have dinged him early with a stalling call and dinged him again to get him to try to improve from bottom. Austin should have been instructed to cut him and put on a takedown clinic, as it was apparent Newberry did not want to wrestle from bottom. A freshman winning in a weight class usually dominated by upperclassmen is to be applauded. I just wish I could have seen more of his abilities. It is difficult to showcase your talent when your opponent is unwilling to go toe-to-toe with you.

    Backflip

I tend to be on the old school side myself, however I give a little rope on this one. A flip by Brock, Cooper yelling and flexing, Fahy holding up four fingers, it's all okay with me. I would rather see the "act like you've been there" actions of the Myers boys, but a state title is a real achievement. So I say let 'em celebrate a little.

Give it a rest. CC won, fair and square whether or not we agree with the manner in which it happened. I'm with you mataholic. The only kid I saw that could hang with Stephen Myers was Cooper.

    Just a few observations

I would guess it would bring in a ton more money. Sectionals, Districts, and State are all OHSAA sanctioned events. Sectionals and Districts are two day events each. That equates to four days of wrestling gates as compared to one day of gates in the KHSAA current set up. I have never been to a Sectional or District that is not jam packed with fans. State tournament begins Thursday evening and runs all day Friday and Saturday. In essence, an extra half day's worth of gates, as KHSAA runs a two day event. Attendance at the state tournament is around 15,000 per day I believe. In total, we are looking at an extra 3 1/2 days for the OHSAA to generate $$$$. No brainer. The state tournament is intense from the get go. 16 man brackets means no fish. The fish are eliminated at the sectional level. A few may make it to the district level but none make it to the state level. February is the Month Of Champions. It begins with your conference tournament, and ends at the state tournament.

    Just a few observations

Ohio: All wrestlers qualify for one of 16 designated Sectionals. The sectional is seeded via criteria and coaches meeting. Top four from each Sectional move on to one of four Districts. Sectional finalists are separated into different quarters of the 16-man District bracket. Sectional 1st vs Sectional 4th, 2nd v 3rd. Top four from District move onto State. Four districts, top four, 16-man bracket. State bracket is filled in as was District, with a little twist. In addition to separating same District finalists, returning state champs/placers are kept separate as best as possible, called "protection". This explanation is oversimplifying things a little bit. You get the point though. Basically, rankings are thrown out the window. No real need for them though. The top guys naturally rise to the top through Sectionals and then again at Districts. There are occasions in which three of the top guys may come out of one District. In this case you will see the #3 knock off the #2 (first round) and the #1 (second round) in his quarter of the bracket. There is very little rooom, if any, for squabbling about your "seed". Rankings, while important on some level are nothing more than entertainment. The work involved is very much appreciated. Let's face it though. How in the world can ranking individual wrestlers be accurate beyond the top two or possibly three guys? For a good read for all you rankings nerds (myself included) check out the Brakeman Report. It can be found at the link below, or type in Brakeman Report on your search engine. www.baumspage.com/brakeman/index.htm

    Dedication and Commitment

KHSAA ruled on the situation. I would guess KHSAA trumps anything a coach wants to do. Why would a coach want to contradict the ruling and risk possible disciplinary action? It is what it is, unfortunately.
