Nah, no need to pile on. The kid is having a rough year. Watched the dual last night. First few matches were snoozefests. Lackluster effort from both guys at HWT. Bartel (a 197, 0-4 on the year) scores off a weak Myers shot in 1st, then rolls out from bottom and gets reversal in 2nd. Much quicker than Myers, but I don't think he attempted one shot, aside from the 1st period re-shot. He had nothing on top and Myers was out quick after reversal as well as to start the 3rd. Myers took a handful of shots in the match, none were close to scoring. Ref was late to warn Bartel for stalling, had Myers done more he could have forced a stall point. McGee seemed to have zero interest in scoring. Could have been hit with multiple stall calls. His head is somewhere else right now. He was a top 5 guy to start the year. Now out of the top 20. I don't think it is injury related as he won Edinboro. No reason to lose to a back up like that. Three stall calls, zero TDs. Eierman-Hodges was good match. I like Eierman, he has some funk and my bet is he will AA next year. He is a RS frosh. Although #9, the guys ahead of him are studs. Add in #11 Gulibon, #15 Pletcher, and #18 Carton and this is one helluva a weight class. Mayes-Thomsen was a bit of a shocker. I really like Mayes and had not seen Thomsen this year. Mayes had no gas tank in 3rd, giving up backs to start the period. Followed by two Thomsen TDs and more back points. This raised some eyebrows as Mayes had a good ride in 2nd which should have put him in a nice position to take the match. J'Den was awesome. He appears 100% healthy and ready for deep run in NCAAs. Mizzou had high hopes to compete for National title this year. They have a couple big holes in the lineup (Miklus injury a big blow), but should still make top ten. They can help their seedings by showing well at the MACs. UNI has a bunch of top ten guys and could be dangerous outs at NCAAs. Peters (#10 @125) and Everard (currently unranked after recent poor results, injury) did not go vs Mizzou. Although they were not needed for this dual, they are point scorers. Intermat has UNI at #21. I could see them climbing into top 15 at NCAAs.

RPI is one-third of the equation. NCAA takes coaches poll, RPI, and W-L record into consideration. If listed in all three a wrestler is considered "gold" and will get a bid. "Silver" means listed in two and probably gets in. "Bronze" means listed in one and unlikely to get in.

I could be wrong, but I think the MAC gets 4 AQs at 125. However, HWT only gets one.

I thought this had the potential to be a close dual. UNI matches up well with Mizzou. However, my money was on Mizzou as they were favored in at least 6 matches. I guess the shocker was the Thomsen-Mayes result. Did not see that coming. Nice to see Cox get the pin on senior night.

Always seems to be the case for me too

Yeah, Dance was on another level, and JACKED. Agree with all you stated. Loved that Fausz went right after Dance.

True frosh gets the tech vs Brunson, 16-1. I did not see the match, but I like Brunson's style. Hall sits at #7.

took 3rd at Edinboro Open

Dropped three to top tier guys: #10 Alber, #2 Gross, #11 Hall. That is one tough stretch

Somebody asked about him on another thread. Since I started threads about a few other wrestlers might as well get a Trae thread going. He is having a tough go of it this year, 2-8. Wrestled last year at 141, dropped to 133 this year. Struggling with the cut? Don't know. Some huge matches coming up. I always see the big matches as a chance to take a step forward. He lost a close one to #5 Kaid Brock, 10-7. He will get another shot at him in a few weeks. Before that though, he has Hall, Gross, and Alber. All are top 10 guys, or close to it. He did not wrestle v Missouri. Rubio went 33 and Longo went 41. The last match I saw of his was vs Mark Grey. An 8-5 loss. Grey was a high school stud out of Blair Academy. Though his ranking doesn't reflect this, he is a stud. Battling injuries the last two seasons. Hoping Blackwell gets back on the winning side.

He clocks in at #12 this week! N.C. State takes on Va Tech this weekend. #2 Joey Dance v #12 Sean Fausz. I believe it will be on espn3

Great "never give up" vid for the kids to watch. Gilman down 8-0, fights back in 3rd but still down 10-8. Gets the pin. I liked Gilman's reaction after the pin. Could this be the recipe that others can use in game-planning for Gilman? True, the dual was a bit pedestrian to watch. Gunther mild upset over Wanzek, and Kroells not getting the pin (7-0 win) really hurt the Gophers. At that point it was 19-8 Iowa. Should (coulda, woulda) been much tighter, 16-14 going into the final two matches where the teams were projected to split. Iowa brings it every match.

Wrestling is the most noble of sports. Many life lessons to be learned. These young men will come to understand that the life lessons will carry them much further than any trophy ever could. Thanks for sharing

Did not wrestle vs Virginia today. I think he is at an open tournament getting some mat time at 125.

This was a great dual. I had OSU-Iowa on the tv and Ok St-Mizzou on the computer. This was the better of the two duals, in my opinion. Piccinini all over Assad, gets TF. I like Assad, and Barlow needs to get his head straight, but Assad was overmatched. Kaid has his hands full with Erneste. Great mat wrestling by both guys. I was really impressed with Erneste in the loss, Kaid is on another level though. Heil seemed to struggle to solve Eierman's funk. In the end, experience pays for the senior vs RS frosh. If Eierman makes NCAAs he could be a tough out. 11-0 OK St after three matches. Collica-Mayes was another barn burner in this dual. Mayes came out hot early and never let up. Joe Smith has been a bit uneven this year. Lavallee the better wrestler gets the dec. A very hard nosed match. Rogers and Lewis really grinded. Lewis with last second TD to take the win. Maybe my favorite match of the dual. Wisman brought it, shutting down Crutchmer the entire match. OK St wins the first three, Missouri rallies back to win the next four to take a 12-11 lead. Boyd got OK St back on track, steamrolling Lemanowicz with a TF. This was the best I have seen J'Den. Weigel is no slouch either. I think J'Den is back to firing on all cylinders, earning the MD. Score tied at 16 going into HWT. Schafer is on a 7 match win streak, with bonus in the last two. His last loss was in the finals at the Scuffle. He gets bonus here over Myers. 20-16 OK St. Awesome dual. Matches split evenly at 5 apiece. OK St gets bonus in three (Missouri bonus in one), which was the difference. Missouri took all three toss up matches. This OK St team is locked an loaded with 8 guys ranked top ten. Looked like a great atmosphere.

Intermat has had him ranked since 1/16, or thereabouts. (I started a thread on him a while ago)

Nice breakdown. I have a feeling we may see Sorensen beat Zain Train next time out. He seems to have found a way out from bottom and I would not be surprised if Sorensen got a reversal. Hall will be fine, indeed. Earlier in the season both he and Cael were on record as being happy with the RS year. Not sure what changed. Looking forward to the Oh St PSU dual
