    USA Wrestling State Tournament?

More than a pound??? Then you may as well call it different weight classes. You are already given 2 pounds when you win the weight class. Make weight, move up, or move out. My opinion.

    State news

Trackwrestling is a database. Bad data in produces bad data out. If team A lies about results, and Team B is honest, but team B kid has a head to head or common opponent win over Team A, are you going to adjust to correct or just say oh well it is too dangerous to get this right due to COVID?

    Events for 2020-2021

I was thinking of an invitational tournament near the end of March. USA wrestling sanctioned event and inviting anyone who placed top 4 in their region in the state of Kentucky. Any thoughts? Hahaha!

Google montgomery county high school gymnasium KHSAA site may be wrong but the school lists it at 6200 comfortably

    Semi State True Second Petition

Freedom Hall is open and were willing to host. They have capacity of 18,000 x .15 which is 2700. Charge each kid wrestling in the state tournament 20.00 and 20.00 per spectator and you now have over 15,000 dollars to rent the venue. They may even do it for 10,000 because they have not had many events and now you have a great place In The middle of the state with 5,000 for the KHSAA to recoup some lost money on the year. 16 man brackets, 1 day, socially distanced. Plus the venue gets us for another 10 each for parking. Win - win for everyone.

    Semi State True Second Petition

Is Montgomery County high school not in play? Seating capacity of 6200 x .15 is 930 just in the main gym. Not counting their press box, for KHSAA personnel. Not counting concession personnel as they would not be utilizing seating capacity. Really at anyone time you would not necessarily county this on the floor and coaching as they are spread not against the seating capacity. And if two sessions this becomes really doable. If that were an option it becomes alot simpler. If any high schools that have a big gym and a small gym it could be possible. Just saying other sports last year should not be a justified excuse. Always improve your position. Last year sucked, this year stinks but can be better. Saying something is better than nothing is kind of a cop out, should be saying what is the best we CAN do, not what is the minimum we are willing to do. How bout it Montgomery County? Be the hero's.

    Semi State True Second Petition

West Virginia got permission from NFHS to allow a wrestler to wrestle 6 matches in a day to allow for 16 man brackets. Did the KHSAA request that? If not they should. Only takes a small amount of effort to make things right by the athletes that are competing. This would also allow for states to be 16 man brackets accomished in one day. 16 x 14 = 224 split session is 112 per session. 2 tickets each wrestler is 224 plus 112 for athletes. 336. 6 mats , 2 referees each mat is 12. 348 people. If ran on track you only need 1 person at each mat for the computer and one tapper. That is another 12. I am at 360 people in the venue at one time. Table workers can come from parents, the would volunteer which reduces number further. Or do it all at one session and you are only at 720 people. Surely a venue can handle 720 people with fans sitting in pods. And teams limited to team areas. The head table only needs one person to run the tournament. Medical staff of 6 at 1 per mat. KHSAA rep, we only need 1 there not the entire staff. Finals can be live streamed and I would volunteer to do that for free to make this happen. I don't understand why this could not have been an option. Is there really no venue available that can hold 730 people and do the 16 man brackets? One day with a 6 match rule. Finals live streamed.

Mason Smith commits to wrestle for

Congratulations Mason, and beyond wrestling welcome to the United States Army Officer's Corp. D1 Wrestling and a career in a fine institution. Have your Dad keep me in the loop towards your junior year on branch and assignment. If I still know the powers to be, I will do what I can to assist. JW
  11. As we get ready for the off season meetings, the many discussions that take place theoughout the year between coaches (without the history lessons and emotions)...... How many coaches, teams would like to see kentucky wrestling begin transitioning to standardized weight classes, weigh ins? Just a poll, no persuasion, emotion or animosity needed or intended!

    Here we go

Well actually it is always in clock operators hands. Read rule book. Clock operator has final say so on time....not the referee.

Brock Whorton, John Hardin transfer to WV.

Thanks to all and especially the originator of this post. Brock put in a lot of time this off-season and accomplished a goal and dream. He was pushed tremendously through 3 years of Junior High wrestling in Kentucky by team mates, opponents, and supporters. The junior high program in Kentucky does more to prepare wrestlers for the state tournament than you will ever know. West Virginia does not have an official middle school state program so many wrestlers never experience the spot light, names being announced, state finalist singlets, records being announced and parade of champions that Jason Moore has established in Kentucky Middle School. Thanks to all that pushed him, coached him, and motivated him to become the best that he could be. To all Kentucky wrestlers on their weather extended season, good luck at your state tournament, enjoy the emotional roller coaster, and wrestle to win the position you are in, not the opponents previous resume. Good luck and will be following on Track Wrestling. JW
  15. The Middle School Season Opening event at John Hardin High School in Elizabethtown, KY is right around the corner. Ten teams have confirmed and we would like to fill the event for the 3rd straight year, if your team is interested in attending please post on here so we can get you the flyer. This event has filled at 16 Man brackets every year and has shown great early season competition with many previews of state finalists each year. If your team is not completely ready and you only have individuals to put in for the kick-off event, we should be able to work them in. Thanks and hope to see some teams post. Out of state teams are welcomed and always invited to attend. If you emailed last night, you should have gotten the reply saying you were in and should receive flyer shortly.

    Middle school districts/reg?

sbfraz has become the voice of Region 1 and District 2. Good luck this year.
  17. Without seeing the rosters and going off of watching the summer posts - I would put a lot of stock in guessing that East Oldham and Twenhofel will have a few champions. North Hardin, Taylor County, Woodford, and Campbell County will pick up a winner or two also. But yes, this Tournament has always seemed to get a few All-Star Classic Match-Ups of some State Finalist previews for a season kick-off tourney. Wish I was able to come down and watch this years season start.

    Austin Myers

I just moved here from Kentucky last year - work at WVU now as an ROTC instructor, and was raised in the area so know it well. Have gotten to witness the Bull, Marable, Felix and Dom Bradley in action. It is a great intense room that is looking to be winners now, not later. Great Big 12 schedule combined with a lot of action from the Big PA schools (Pitt and Edinboro), not to mention the fact that it will be a Regional Training Center in the near future. Congratulations on selecting a program that will grow quickly. PM me if you have any questions about the Mountaineer Nation.
  19. Should have been sent out by Coach Johnson to all teams that are coming. I think he sent yesterday. If you did not receive let me know through a PM what email address it should have gone to. Thanks.

    new state tourney qualifier

Not living in Kentucky, but having lived there previously and hearing the pros and cons of everything involved and seeing it all first hand, I fully believe that you are battling what most businesses do.... resistance to change. The most legitamate complaints from outside looking in are the rinky dink $2.50 cent awards for being a state champion and the use of a substandard facility for the sport of wrestling (allergies, dirt, lack of showers, lack of cleanliness). Coming in behind on the complaints list are size and competitiveness of regions to ensure equality for the programs that have alot of good competition. I would think that if you went to 12 Districts - top 4 or 6 qualify for Regions depending on size / historical comptetiveness of area (Big 10 gets more in tourney than does the Big 12 for NCAAs). So your now 6 Region tourney's can be between 8 man brackets or 12 man brackets - still pulling the top 4 from each region. Here comes the bomb - yes it would now make the state tourney a 24 man bracket (not 32). This would cut out 112 wrestlers - 140 matches - and about 3 hours of overall wrestling if using 6 mats a little less if you had to go to 5. Going to 5 or 6 mats would open up your choice of venues greatly at a reduced cost for facilities (I would think). If you were getting the facility at a reduced cost, that already has internet in place, locker rooms, and ability to run a concession - you could free up more money for awards that are hard earned and deserved. Your seating requirements would reduce due to the drop of 112 competitors. Probably less overall income at the gate and concessions but more would buy food at a more manageable price not contracted by the venue - so may balance out some. Just throwing out ideas to chew on, but no dog in the fight since I have moved. Just watched and observed and think you all have one thing in common and that is trying to find a positive change that impacts the only thing that should be important - the Wrestlers themselves.
  21. I know that I am gone, but if you would start using trackwrestling from the district tourney through the state tourney, you could have their grades recorded and kept from year to year on a website that all could access or continue to have everyone using what ever system they want and never know from year to year. Anyways - Good luck Kentucky Wrestlers.
  22. Both teams will be in great hands for the 1st annual Elementary Team Kentucky with outstanding coaches leading the way. Coach Miracle taking team A. There is a tremendous amount of wrestling knowledge from youth through collegiate wrestling. His national and international experience will be great for all wrestlers to improve and gain expertise. Coach Thomas will be leading team B. He is part of one of the largest youth teams in Kentucky (Raider Wrestling) and has been involved in wrestling and coaching for many years. He has traveled with his son and other wrestlers to many National Events and will be a great asset and leader to the wrestlers on his team. Matt Lee will be involved in both teams as his son is on team A and his battle buddy is coaching team B, so he will also be a tremendous asset to each of these young wrestlers. With these guys and the KSWA there will be great training opportunities lined up that would not have existed for these wrestlers without this step forward. So it is awesome for those that took advantage. I wish all wrestlers and coaches the best of luck and the experience will make all involved better wrestlers, coaches, and supportive parents when the next season rolls around. Good luck Team KYUSA!
  23. Anyone still wanting to register, send me info and we can get them in. Union contacted me today and I think are going to add some wrestlers. Will be a good event. Come at 10:00 am to weigh in and we will roll early. Every one will have at least 2 matches as it stands now.
  24. Great question. Weigh in will be in singlet at Heartland and this will be put out to the team once this tourney is over. For this tournament since we did not clearly state I will allow either since Kentucky usually runs on underwear. The difference for most sumblimated singlets is a 1 to 2 ounce difference so should not drastically effect.
  25. Campbell County has the lead in registrations at this time. Register at: http://s201.trackwrestling.com/tw/opentournaments/MainFrame.jsp?newSession=false&loadBalanced=true&sport=wrestling&TIM=1392681090106&pageName=&ie=false&frameSize=709 or the short link above.
