    120 finals prayer

Well within your scenario, the referee would hit them both with stalling as the rules would dictate. If it were a second stalking call for one or both of them, it would be a point. Furthermore as I have described I spent more years in Muslim majority countries than probably you have and most of the readers. Worked side by side with many as interpreters. Have had many discussions back and forth. I won't claim to be an expert, but there must be a verse that allows them miss and make up the prayer. So I would guess they would probably continue the match, and then head straight to a clear direction facing the mecca. If a prayer is missed, it is common practice among Muslims to make it up as soon as it is remembered or as soon as they are able to do so. This is known as Qadaa. For example, if one misses the noon prayer because of a work meeting that could not be interrupted, one should pray as soon as the meeting is over. I hope that I have enlightened you on the religion that you bring up.

    Not good KHSAA

I was being completely sarcastic. Just imagine hearing two coaches and a referee mic'd up for the entire venue to hear on a loud speaker. Half agreeing with one and half the other. It would be a mess.

    120 finals prayer

To those that want to be negative, I can attest that both of their hearts were pure and it was not Grandstanding. Check your own heart before judging others. As for Breyden, last year when he lost in the finals he walked off the mat to a hallway. Asked me to pray with him. Thanked God for the opportunity and ability to wrestle for him. As I had tears in my eyes, some feeling his loss for him and some for the good man that he is, he looked at me and said if you need a minute to gain your composure, take your time, I am heading up to be with my team and get ready for awards. When TJ beat him earlier this year, he took a moment and prayed on the mat. Win or lose, that is the heart and faith he has shown. Not disrespectful, not for you or others to give him accolades or try to tear him down. There is enough wrong in the world we live in right now, if you don't agree with him, close your eyes, turn around, or simply clear your own hate and don't judge him or others. For those saying what if another religion, I was in charge of the night shift of the largest terrorist prison in Afghanistan. I woke up everyday and said regardless of how these in prison act today, I will treat them with dignity and respect. Many humbling stories I could share. Although I fall short sometimes, that is how I try to act with everyone. Would be a greater place if we all tried the same. With that being said, as he practiced his freedom of religion, you all have the right to freedom of speech. You also have the freedom of choice and could choose to not be negative about everything in life. Congratulations to all that met their goals, keep grinding for those that fell short, and God Bless to all! JW

    Not good KHSAA

Video replay with the official and both coaches have to agree. All 3 mic'd up during the discussion as they are watching the replay. That would be a classic way to handle all questionable calls and allow the fans saying what are they discussing to enjoy the moment. The moral and ethical compass would be put in check by everyone.

    Where Was The Podium?

My prayers, hopes, and dreams are for the KHSAA to be transparent and say we want a check for X amount following the state tournament for wrestling. Assign a committee to handle all aspects of post season, venue selection, acquire mats, acquire scoreboards, acquire awards, acquire tableworkers, set up and tear down. They just provide support, oversight, as needed. We, the coaches do all the labor, lifting, and execution. They get their money and the kids get a great tournament that exceeds their expectations. They would take not heat rounds or negative feedback, no stress to them and they still have the money at the end. Why is this not an option? How would this hinder them? Why can't this be the way forward? No offense to them, but to be an authority over something, you should have the knowledge and experience to know what and why you are making the decisions you are making. So allow those with the knowledge and experience to handle those aspects.

    Where Was The Podium?

Haha. They sat next to each other in chairs before they went to get awards, closer than standing on a podium. This is classic and you can't make this up!

    State Tournament Hope

The problem with that is too many of the kids that should be at the state tournament are left at home with much weaker competition at the state tournament. Look at results from who made it through. Under your theory, regions 1 and 2 combined, 3 and 4 combined, etc, etc. Now look at results where 1 and 2 got 5 or 6 of the 8 through at true semi and vice versa. There are kids at the state tournament this year that deserve to be there that would not have been under your 4 region alignment. Trying to do right by the competitors! A long day for some fans is worth it for the competitors, is it not?

    Weight class survey

Was not required by the NFHS to vote on this yet. They just had a board meeting and voted on weight classes for 3 seasons from now, but don't have information on if going back to normal post season, or top 2 from quad states, or top 4, or location. That was low hanging fruit and easy. Working with coaches association to get back to what the wrestling community wants for a post season is being dodged and neglected. But glad they chose 14!

    Weight class survey

Why are they voting 3 seasons out? This does not take effect until 2023-2024. Alot can change in those years. The rule can change again. Schools voting may not have teams. Some teams may exist that don't right now. Kentucky could have an influx of wrestlers or a major drop off. This vote should happen the season prior each year so it is based off of a current landscape. Let's try working on something important, like fixing post season, securing a venue, making sure that the right kids are at the state tournament. You know, all the things that were a debacle this year.

    Venue for next year..

Haha. Flexible, like not having a post season plan until the 11th hour, not one that any of the coaches or participants desired. That kind of flexible or the kind at the beginning of the school year says regionals will be on this date and states on this date for venue eligibility. Pretty sure we can work our schedules.

    Venue for next year..

For the sake of argument or open discussion: Bellarmine was home on February 6, away Feb 12 and 13, off on the 20th, and home agin on the 27th. Guessing their schedule is published in advance of our season beginning, being flexible with a week plus or minus 1 week, and schedules will normally flow the same for home and away, would not take much to figure that out each year.

    State Tournament Follow Up

I could care less if a referee even brought a mask to the venue. Was not a cut on the officials. And I agree people in the stands were not able to distant. You stated KHSAA looked the other way or overlooked alot of things, but for what reason. Bottom line is no decision made by the KHSAA was for health reasons, only for reducing day, time, and labor. There was more room last year for distancing with 32 man brackets at a larger venue, with unlimited ticket sales than there was Saturday. The decisions made were under the name of covid, but not for safety reasons. Here is a picture of Saturday Morning last year, no restrictions, full brackets, unlimited ticket sales. Look at all the empty seats and ability to social distance. There was no ability at the high school gym. Now tell me how this past weekend prevented anything except less kids getting an opportunity, and a shorter weekend for the governing body. Basketball kept Rupp Arena under the name of tradition. That is fine but wrestling deserves the tradition of 32 man brackets, top 4 from each region competing for a shot at a state medal. Not reduced down to limit work. If it is too much work for the governing body, then allow the coach's association to run the tournament and give the money to the khsaa. To say people in the stands, they were not wearing KHSAA logos on their chest or being paid by the KHSAA that day. They were just stuffed into a high school gym because they were told this would be safer than last year. Hopefully next year is a better year for Kentucky Wrestling!

    Brackets are out

Well considering they said last week was round 1 of the state tournament, carry over of team points, giving an extra pound as this is day 2, the wrestler actually weighed in last week to be in the tournament. Same as not making weight on day 2. Turns to a forfeit. Do I like it, no, but I can follow the logic of it. Kids name has to remain in bracket by their rules because he will still be a stat placeras the 8th place medalist.
  23. J.W.

    hypothetical question?

According to NFHS, if you wrestled in the bracket at any time, medical forfeits and injury defaults are counted as a loss. Not at collegiate level though. Unless something changed in last couple of years, it is an L on record.
  24. It is not too late to make this right. Governor Beshear announced an update of COVID-19 restrictions that will go in effect on Friday, March 5. He says capacity at the following establishments can increase to 60 percent: Indoor auctions, barbershops/cosmetology/hair salons, bars and restaurants, bowling alleys, indoor educational & cultural activities, fitness centers, funeral and memorial services, government offices/agencies, massage therapy, movie theaters, nail salons, office-based businesses, places of worship (recommendation), retail, tanning salons, tattoo parlors, and vehicle and vessel dealerships. If bars and restaurants can be 60%, there is no reason the state tournament can not be increased from 15% to 50% which would allow for at least 16 man brackets with parents attending. Let's make reasonable adjustments as the state is moving forward!!!
