    Region 3 Tournament

Your talking about a district that cancel sports seasons in 2020 and 2021, you think they will let teams use facilities?

    Region 3 Tournament

This ties in with the High School thread but finding space for an event isnt easy. Wrestling requires a large amount of space. Indoor spaces are still hard to rent at this point, and if schools wont let teams host, then you are stuck with who is willing to let you host or use their venue.

    State Tournament Hope

Where would you like to host it at? What venue?

    Schedule Changes

Public flogging will be the only way to help remedy this, contracts wont work because in wrestling they dont hold water and most AD's/Principals wont even sign them. Now some cancelations will be valid, (Covid, Teams from Western KY probably wont be wrestling till after the first of the year, bus issue, those type of things.) When its not valid flog the team, but do it respectfully. Examples. Team XYZ canceled on us for this Friday nights tri meet and we are in need of another team to fill that spot if anyone is interested, thanks. Coach 1234. Once the coaches see that team XYZ has canceled on 3 and 4 teams this season, you guys will stop scheduling them, and they will stop canceling on a whim. Started doing it in another sport a few years ago and its helped tremendously.

    Semi state

Initially I don't think it matters to make a cut off on #2 guys, but as teams grow it could, and I understand why you say that, and like we used to say, "Let that be a good problem we have to deal with". Now I could see this making JV regionals more of a bigger deal perhaps, and a podium spot there, gets your spot in District tournament or something along those lines. Only allowing 14 kids to wrestle for something in HS has always been a deterrent for kids whether anyone wants to acknowledge it or not, specifically your just average MS kids coming up. Allowing 28 kids to participate at the end of the year, means many more teams with closer to full JV lineups all season. That's a good problem to have. As to weight cutting, wasn't going to bring it up, but I agree, it helps with kids making hard cuts.

Just one, Team picks their scored. Same as what Middle School does.

    Semi state

The flip of this argument would be that they do have classes in Cross country, Track, all individual sports, so why not wrestling.

    Semi state

This in my opinion is one of the biggest growth inhibiters to KY HS wrestling. Add districts and 2 per team weight classes.
  10. From an event hosting standpoint, I can understand why they want to continue with semi state. It allows for way more venue hosting options, (which was a huge issue with the single state format, one that many just brush aside as "find another venue" and its just not that easy, trust me.) I'm sure this is also a financial decision as well, as a semi-state format allows for some of the schools to host (like GRC last year) which saves huge $$$ from renting the horse park as example. From a wrestling stand point, I agree that the single state format was great, and if venue wasn't an issue, there would be no reason to change the format. However, if the format is to be changed, then some of the front end of the tournament needs changed. Go to 16 districts - 8 region format in which regions are on a rotation plan as to what four pair up in the semi state each year, allow 2 kids per weight class from a team in districts, and some other things. From a communication standpoint with the KHSAA and BOC. Wrestling is not the only sport that has the issues they are having, its most all the sports. Just from past experience, all these surveys, polls and stuff that's being done are great, but they go upon deaf ears and frankly, it always seems that the KHSAA and BOC do the exact opposite of what those survey and poll data shows. Whether that's intentfull or not is up for your guys perception. What I can say is, because this is school based, and KDE runs the show, wrestling like the other sports has to just do what they are told for that moment as far as school season goes. However wrestling has the ability to also do what they want to do, they have a great organization that helps back them as soon as the school season is over, and that needs to be used more. Run your own separate state tournament, as soon as the school season is over, format it the way you want, find your venues and run a great event. Show the KHSAA and BOC the way you want it run, and that you as group can do it.

    Expand Regions

Districts, 8 teams in a district, teams can enter 2 per weight class at districts.

    State Tournament Follow Up

Maybe not my place anymore but as someone who struggles to deal with the KHSAA in another sport let me say the following. The BOC doesn't care about wrestling as a group. There are two BOC members who may care a little, but it is just 2 and they will even admit any attempt by them to "make wrestling better" will just get shot down quickly. (sadly one of those members is on their last year on the BOC) Wrestling is not a primary sport to the KHSAA or the BOC, and therefore in their minds, it should not be a focus or anything to put time into. My point in all this is efforts to change that perspective are just wasteful IMO. The old "beating a dead horse" comes to mind. What needs to happen is efforts from a different angle, like those I mentioned in another thread about having a separate state tournament that was 32 man and ran like it should have been in the post season.

I see projectile pancakes in your future again, lol.

    No podium or awards

We can not put a podium on school grounds, but we can have an offsite location and we are currently trying to secure that. The perfect location is 2280 Executive Drive, Lexington, KY - 40505

You mean the group in charge that rescinded legislation of a health and safety rule because they were tired of taking calls about it and being asked to enforce it? Never would have guessed.

You guys have a voice, you just have to be willing to use it.

Didnt KHSAA throw the last podium in the dumpster a few years back?

    BoC meeting Info

Does KHSAA even have a venue for HS Wrestling tournament this year? Or are they just praying the Horse Park will have an open date when they schedule it, because if they move wrestling to spring, the Horse Park wont have open dates.
