2012 State Tournament (set weight classes)

Before any bashing starts. I believe that Ranger was only try to help. Although I do not get on these boards that often, I find them somewhat humorist. I also think that we ALL at times can take others messages out of the content. It happens. However I have had the opportunity to be a coach for the Raider Youth Program years back. Now Im at the MS level coaching. I personally think we have outstanding People that are always trying to improve wrestling in KY at all levels. Stan Martin did a great job with the youth league and Raider program. I think Mall Lee has taken that program a step further and has done great job. He has surround himself with great people that care about all these kids. Darren Thomas comes to mind. Now on the MS level Ranger has done a great job with the MS Assoication and I have had hours of discussions with him on how to make this sport better throughout the state. My point to all this is that we ALL need to set EGOs aside, HS records college creditals and work together. I mean really work together. This isn't about me, you or anyone's program. It's about these kids and help grow the sport of wrestling. Now me replying to this thread isn't me bashing on anyone but to hopefully trying to keep everyone focused on what's most important..... These Kids!!!!!!

Will Brock be the first 5 timer in KY

What is most amazing about Brock winning this year, is that he wasn't 100% healthy. After talking with one of the Union County coaches (his dad), Brock's knee was a major concern this season. I think he had several surgeries on it (this season). Nothing against TJ, I think he is an outstanding wrestler. You don't get a scholarship to a BIG 10 school (Wisconsin) for being a so so wrestler. However I feel that Brock is on a hole nother level then most kids in the State. I have no doubts that Brock will be wrestling at the college level at a major wrestling D1 school. This also goes for K. Cooper and S. Myers. Looking forward to see how these kids do at the D1 level in the future.

New rules for KY MS Wrestling

I feel that Club programs and School teams have their place. My program is a CLUB and by having it this way saves us a great deal of money regarding transportation cost (buses). If we were a school team we would be required to take buses to tournaments/matches in which the funds would have to come out of our budget. Also, with a club team, we don't have to get approval from the school when we want to purchase something for our kids such as singlets, clocks, scales, trophies etc... And when it comes to fund raisers we can do whatever. With a school team we would have to get the "OK" from the admin to do any of this stuff. Now about kids jump from school teams to club teams. This doesn't happen as often as some may think. I had 27 kids on my roster and 3 of these kids will end up wrestling for a different HS then ours. However, I do have a kid on my team that wrestled for another team the previous season. The parents of this child pretty much said that he felt that our program had better drill partners, more technical coaches and a stronger schedule. He want to give his son the best opportunity to get better before he entered HS next season. The father of this kid also stated that his child was even thinking about quitting prior to joining my club. Here is my take on this, and I agree with Ranger. Kids will go where they feel is the best situation for them. I'm one that will not recruit a kid from another team or club, but if a child wants to wrestle for me vs him thinking about quitting, I will take him. This only helps wrestling in the long run. Keeps kids on the mat and hopefully they will go on to wrestle in HS. I do not have a problem coaching a kid that will never wrestle for our HS. It's about helping and teaching kids. Just my opinion!!!

    Middle School Wrestlers Moving Up

Guys, all fun and games aside. Does it really matter where a kid wrestles at? REALLY!!! Especially at the Youth and Middle School levels. I mean we are trying to keep this sport growing. To be honest with you, I would rather have a kid wrestle for me for 3 or 4 years, completely knowing that they may go to a different high school. Normally where my program doesn't feed. I have no problem coaching a kid and when their MS days are over, they go back to their high schools. If I can keep a kid in wrestling and off the streets, help him or her achieve their goals that later on in life that will help them. Well then I have done my job as a coach. So many people are worried about OR THINK that other programs are trying to recruit their wrestlers. In the many years that I have been involved with coaching I have never gone to a kid that I know is already in a program to try to recruit them to my program. I have always and will continue to encourage kids to wrestle for their MS or Youth programs that will feed the HS they will attend. This only helps build programs. However this always doesn't happen. Like TURK said, kids will go where they feel they have better drill partners, maybe better schedules or coaches they feel more comfortable around. Most of the time in comes down to the parents. Usually they will seek out other programs from what their child was involved with the prior season. It happens people. My advise to ALL, worry about coaching and touching a kids life, rather then thinking others are stealing or recruiting "your wrestlers" Please!!

    Middle School Wrestlers Moving Up

Raider, please enlighten me on the HALF DOZEN kids that are wrestling for WV Middle School that are Ryle District kids. And I'm talking about kids that DO NOT attend any Walton Schools, but wrestle for WV and still live in Ryle District. There is only one kid on Walton's club, that actually goes to Gray, but he is a new kid that is from another state that just moved here. He has never wrestled, but his mom works with one of the assistant coaches, and the parents just felt more confortable to have their child around this coach, just because they don't know anyone in this area. Besides this one kid, please help me find these other boys, because I sure could use some more wrestlers.
