    STATE TOURNAMENT

Just want to give a BIG congratulations to ALL the wrestlers that participated in this year's State Tournament. It's you guys that make the day special and provide memories for us coaches and dads to enjoy! THANK YOU for that! Another big congrats to River City and North Oldham for winning the Club and School titles. Both those programs and their coaches are class acts! Great job Coach Quirino and Coach Goldsmith! All the state finalists really brought it this year. What an exciting bunch of finals. Adam Bender and Mason Smith are very much deserving of receiving the MOW awards. You boys wrestled like champions! Congratulations!! A shout out to my son Blake's opponent in the finals. Nate Wheeler is a very tough and solid wrestler! Nate, keep working hard in the off season and I have no doubt that you will be a State Champion next year!

You Know Your a Wrestling Dad When...............

When you go to your kids school during lunch time to recruit some of the bigger kids that aren't doing nothing in the winter months to come out for the wrestling team. Or when your watching Sunday football and instead of saying "did you see that great tackel" or say stuff like " did you see that double leg, or did you see that cut back takedown"

KSWA MS State Duals 2-1-14 @ Summit View MS

It was a very exciting event. The crowds were great, the passion the teams had and the overall atmosphere was intense to say the least. I would like to give a big THANK YOU and a job well done to Summit View and their coaching staff and parents for hosting this event. RIVER CITY and the Coaching Staff, great job and congratulations on winning the State Duals. It was exciting battling you guys in the Finals. A lot of matches were stressful (for me at least, LOL) but exciting. You guys have an outstanding team and a very well coached team. I wish you the best next weekend at State! NORTH OLDHAM, this event was very competitive and also very exciting. Coach Goldsmith does a great job with his kids and they are a well coached team. CLASS ACT! Best of luck next weekend to you guys! CAMPBELL COUNTY, man I'm tired of battling with you guys, LOL. But I wouldn't change it for anything. Campbell County is always a Class Act and very well Coached Team. Great Parents, Great Kids and Great Coaches. Best of luck to CC and Coach Moore next weekend. SUMMIT VIEW, a young team, Adam has some kids that will be names you'll hear about in the next few years. The Duke boys will be a handful to deal with in the next couple of years, if not sooner. Adam does a great job with his teams and it was a fun day competing with your team. Best of luck to you guys next week! I agree with Ranger, This event is an awesome event. In the past I've been not a fan of the timing when State Duals is held. For several reason! But I think its a great event and wish more teams would take the opportunity to compete in this! To the kids wrestling next weekend at State, I wish everyone safe travels, stay healthy and best of luck! GOB BLESS you all! Coach Roth

Toughest weight class in each region?

WOW! I see we are having some fun today on the message boards! Its all good! First, I completely agree with dutch. Dutch knows my kid very well. And he has played a huge part along with Ranger in Blake's success. Just on the mental / emtional parts of this sport many times over. Does Blake train hard? absoulutley! Has he wrestled some of the best kids in the country, No Doubt! The list is very long, with some wins and some loses. Not that I have to explain anything regarding Blake goes, because I don't, but to atleast give my kid a fare shake. Let me share a little insight on this season. If anyone knows me personally, I do not and will not hold punches! I don't have to give my kids resume on wrestling, to be honest with you all, there is to much for me to remember LOL! But I will give some info on what or why we did what just for this season. I don't get on this thing and talk about my kid very often. Just not worth it all! Blake has been weighing at 90-91 all year. And I have tried to get him bigger, just not in his cards right now! He could have wrestled 86 all year, but for our team it just wasn't the right fit. Heck Blake wrestled up at 98 this year and won NKAC. He has had 10 or so matches at the HS level I think going 7-3, giving up 15-18 pounds everytime. Blake went down to 86 for the PHILO tournament, which by many coaches, such as Jeff Jordan and a few other big names have label this event one of, if not the toughest MS Tournament in the Country. Blake was one match from placing in the top 5 in this event out of a 32 man bracket. Talking about 32 of the best kids in the country. You just don't show up and get into this event. We decided to have Blake go 92 for post season, strickly for the Team. This actually help get my 86 pounder to qualify for State. Is Blake the best kid at 92? I think so, just my opinion, but there are other kids in this weight class that are very good and could win it all. If anyone really knows Blake or me, I can assure he isn't running from no one. Giving up 15-18 pounds to wrestle HS, sounds like he is running! Not hardly! Now for Ty. Ty has worked very hard in the off season, he did very well at Team KY. I think he went 6-1, heck he might have went 7-0. He wrestled very well. He also won the Tournament of Champions in Columbus Ohio, which is no cupcake event. Ty is doing all the right things to have a very successful year. Is he the best kid at 86, I think so, just my opinion. However both of these kids can be beat. Thats the beauty of this sport. It happens! Both of these kids are top notch wrestlers with tons of potential. I wish them both the best, and hope that they both acheive their goals throughout the season!

    Region 4 Championships

Ok I'm tired of hearing the same crap! As a board member, I know we have made it possible to have the State meetings in several parts of the state so that all those individuals that complain that the meeting site is too far to travel isn't an issue. We tried this and guess what.... Hardly anyone showed up. People complain they can't get information on anything (items to vote on, coachs card, etc). Again, all this information has been provided. If you found this website, you can find the state information. If you want to make changes or help our association, show up to the meetings. And after you show up...let's try supporting all the things that we should do when it comes time to vote on vs talking about it on this site then back pedaling on the topics at the meetings..... Show up to the meetings that are for YOU, to help make the sport better! I understand that there are some New Coaches to MS and are trying to figure everything out, especially coming from the youth level. But we have merged both Youth and MS associations together this year... Oh by the way this too was on the agenda to vote on and it passed! If you want to add value or help implement things to make our sport grow, find TIME and a way to attend these meetings! Make your voice and opinion be heard where it matters and not on some message board!

    State Champ Dual - 2009 vs. 1989

I like what I see! My take on these two years! 103 Goes to Fahy here. Zimmer would be to small against a very big 103 pounder in John Fahy! Score: Fahy wins 9-0 (2009 4-0) 112 Although Shaun was more of a MAN out there on the mat, he was so strong, I give Bradbury the win. Myron is more technical and wins 8-4 (2009 7-0) 119 I'm going with Wyan here. He was a 4X placer and finally got his title his senior year. He was such a force his senior and so determine to win. He reminds me of Dave Barnes his senior year. Both these guys weren't going to lose no matter who they wrestled. Wyan wins this over Zarth 7-3 (2009 7-3) 125 I'm going with Corrothers on this one. I mean he was like 6'7" wrestling at 125. How can you beat a kid that should be playing NBA ball. So much leverage. Never going to turn him or take him down. Score 5-1 (2009 7-6) 130 Goodman was good but he isn't beating Caleb. Caleb just has that extra punch most kids don't have. Caleb wins 6-0 (2009 10-6) 135 Ennels wins here because of his first period clinic he puts on. Scores too many points in the first period or usually would catch you right away. Willie wins 9-4 (2009 10-9) 140 As Ranger would say.. I'm throwing a Dart at this weight. Out of all of these matches I say this would be the most exciting one. Both two very strong athletic kids. However I'll give the edge to Davis. Score: Davis wins 8-6 (2009 13-9) 145 Another Dart Board match. Have to agree with Ranger on this one. Brown wins 3-1 (2009 16-9) 152 Isaac Ervin was very good but Trice would be too much of a Force here. Watching both of these guys wrestle, Jarod would have been one of those kids that would have went to a D1 College and start his first year without a redshirt. He was a major STUD!!! However like Ennels, his conditioning was probably his weakest move! Trice techs 16-1 (2009 16-14) 160 Courtney wins here! Wiard was such a hammer. This would have been the second best matchup with this group of wrestlers. I just think Harrison, like Caleb Ervin has too much extra punch to get it done. Courtney over Wiard 6-2 (2009 19-14) 171 I'm going with Hitchhings here. I like Berkley a lot , but I think Brad has too much technique and pulls out the win. Score 5-4 (2009 22-14) 189 Birch wins here, the but this match goes into o/t. Regulation time score is: 6-6, Birch gets takedown with a duck under and wins. (2009 22-17) 215 N/A 275 Simpson was a man amongst boys. He wins this hands down. Simpson pins in 2nd period. 1989 pulls out the win overall: 23-22

    State Champ Dual - 2011 vs. 1992

Ok Ranger, I'll play! 103 Yenter way way too much technique for Bobby. 12-3 4-0 (2011) 112 Brock, well Brock is Brock. Too much for Brad. 6-0 7-0 (2011) 119 Mosby is just a muscle. No technique, TJ wins this but because Jeff is strong he keeps it close. TJ wins 6-4 10-0 (2011) 125 I say this match is much closer. I like Fahy but Meckley just had something about him that caused problems for others. Fahy wins 8-6 13-0 (2011) 130 Gibbs and Carr. I like both of these guys but I think Carr wins. Roy not as technical or as quick as Carr. Carr wins 7-3 16-0 (2011) 135 Cooper wins this match hands down over Condi. 11-0 20-0 (2011) 140 Kaiser and Salyers Kaiser wins this in O/T by getting the takedown in the first minute. Regular time score is: 4-4 20-3 (2011), Team 92 gets on the board! 145 Hagen too much for Whalen. Him owning this weight class for two years in a row. 15-5 20-7 (2011 still leading) 152 Roby vs C. Ervin Ervin majors here. 9-0 Too much technique. 24-7 (2011) 160 Willie Ennels vs John Lampe I agree that Lampe will blow Ennels out o the water regarding conditioning. But Ennels is so fast within that first two minutes. Ennels always pulled out big moves and scored a lot of points or pinned within that first period. If Ennels puts Lampe on his back he isn't get up. So I'm going to say that John doesn't see it coming and gets caught right of the bat and gets pinned. Now I will say this Lampe is way way better of hammer technical wrestler then Willie. But Ennels catches him. Ennels pins, first period. 24-13 (2011 leads) 171 Rickman vs Jude. Rickman beats Jude. 8-4 24-16 (2011) 189 Stepp pins here... No match at all 24-22 (2011) Team 92 closing the gap 275 Wolizak wins 6-3 24-25 Team 92 pulls it out!!!!!

Middle School Wrestlers at the HS Level

Yeah the best I see Maggard at is 120 (big maybe) probably more like 126. He looked pretty solid at the Dennis Hall camp. I think he was weighing around 135 at that time. And from what I've seen this off season, Ryan Moore will be a major Issue for anyone in the CC room from 106-113. He has put the time in and he looks very impressive!

Landon Young Commits to UK in Football.

I'm big fan of Landon. This kid is an outstanding young man. It was a pleasure to have help train and coach him on Team KY. Unlike Ranger, I am a huge UK fan LOL! I can't wait to see him play football in the best college conference in the country, the SEC! Now that the pressure of committing with a college to play football is over; hopefully he will win a few Wrestling State Titles over the next few years! Congrats Landon and Go Blue!!!!

    Team KY schoolboy national duals

I'm very proud of these young men. Most on our team never wrestled matches in these styles (GR and FS). To come to an event of this caliber speaks volumes to the heart these kids have. Although the results weren't always in the way they would have like it to be, just the experience alone was a great opportunity for them all. I'm glad that these guys decided to take on this opportunity. I cannot speak enough on how proud I am of these guys. They battled hard everyday and I hope that more kids decide to wrestle in these types of events in the future. It only will make our sport grow in our state. Not to mention its just another step in putting Ky Wrestling on the map at national level events! Special thanks to Jason Moore for making all this happen. He was the main person in the driver seat on this! Thanks for all you do Coach Moore!! To many of the HS wrestlers and other coaches that helped train these kids for this event, such as Coach Yenter, Sean Fausz, Dave DeSteFano, and Im sure Ive missed a few, but thank you all!!! To Brandon Cornett, not only is he a great coach and really relates to these guys, but he opened up his fieldhouse so these guys would have a place to train. To the parents, thank you for your patiences and letting you kids be apart of this. It was an honor for me to be able to sit in their corner and coach! To Keith Smith and KY Wrestling, thank you for this great opportunity and with the resources to make this all possible! Last, to All the kids. Big Thank You to you guys. It's because of you all that gives guys like us, the opportunity to coach and be apart of these awesome memories. Great Job to Team KY (Schoolboy)!!!!
