Congratulations to North Oldham for being the Small School State Team Runner-up. Originally the Annoucement was made that our team, Walton-Verona was the Runner-Up team. Well that is not the case. I was notified after our team had already left the arena with the team trophy that we actually took 3rd place in the small school division and North Oldham was 2nd. North Oldham is great program with great kids and solid coaching staff. They deserve it. Arrangements will be made to get them their Trophy! North Oldham, CONGRATS! Angel Vasquez is an awesome young man. This is very sad. I had a chance to coach him when he was on TEAM KY at the MS Level. It was an honor and privilege to coach him and get to know him on a personal level. My prayers go out to him and his family. I wish him the best. Hang In there KID. This would be a terrible thing if this were to happen. Kentucky wrestling at all levels is much stronger these days because of the youth and middle school programs. HS teams need these feeder programs. A lot of very good kids in the Kenton County wrestling community. I hate to hear about this. Hope something can get resolved quick. If this really comes to be true. Covington Catholic is starting a MS program this year and I'm sure they would welcome any kid that needed a new place to compete. Coach Dave Johnson is the HS Head Coach and has surrounded himself with a very good coaching staff at both the HS and MS level. They also have a good little youth program. If you can't find a place for your child to wrestle, you might want to reach out to Coach Johnson. You will be in good hands wrestling for those coaches! Hope it all works out!

Walton-Verona Youth team is looking for good coaches that want to build on a fairly new program into a solid and competitive club. If you have any interest in coaching or just wanting to help out please contact John Roth at jaroth@twc.com. Walton is a small team, but the numbers are growing each year. We had around 24 youth kids last year. The MS team has a very good structure and is a very solid club. The HS team will be young this season but very competative. The Youth, MS and HS coaches will work very closely together to ensure that the youth kids are getting a good knowledge of the basics but more importantly having fun while they are learning and competing. Walton has very nice facilities to work under as well.

Before it gets out of hand on the rumor Ville, LOL, Coach Barnes decided to step down. I know his current job and scheduling conflicts played a big part in him resigning. I wish Coach Barnes and his family the best. He has done wonders with the program and kids at Walton. He will definitely be missed in the room and be hard to fill his shoes. I cannot thank Dave Barnes enough for what he has done for me. I have learned a lot from Dave over the years from a technique stand point and from a coaching stand point. Walton is only where it is today because of Coach Barnes. Going forward, I have accepted my new role as Head Coach of Walton-Verona High School Wrestling team. I'm currently working on putting a staff together from the youth and middle school level to completing my staff at the HS level. A lot people think Graham is a private catholic school because of the St. Paris. St Paris is the city where Graham is located. So there you have it. St Paris Graham Local schools. And they do in fact have attandence zones. However they are open enrollment.
