    Uniform change?

I'm 100% in for whatever grows the sport. I don't have any issues with the fight shorts/compression shirts, however I consider myself a wrestling homer and I loved the singlet while in youth, MS, HS, and College. Still to this day I would prefer a singlet. This is a serious question- How many kids do we think would actually decide to join the sport because of this? By the numbers, would we gain 10%? More, less? I have heard the statement many times, "I'm not wrestling because I don't want to wear that spandex leotard". But honestly the kids I have heard that from over the years, I don't know if they truly would have participated or even stuck out a season let alone a career of the sport. It almost seemed like an excuse from kids, knowing that the hard work, and dedication could be too much, or just not a true desire to participate and compete. I could be wrong, and I understand the self confidence it takes for these young men and women to put on such a revealing outfit during maturity years. If you ask most kids today that are wrestlers (at least through the programs that I am in and have been around), they are ok with the singlets, and they love getting the custom ones, new team ones, etc.... There are also some kids who don't care either way too, I get that. I guess my concern is will it actually better the sport and growth, compared to the costs for each and every team across the country? And if compression shirt is required, how much different is that compared to a singlet? It has sleeves, but basically the same material and still just as revealing if you're a bigger guy/girl. A shirt has the potential to show more body parts compared to a singlet does it not? Obviously the shorts cover more. Injury wise, I don't think the injuries would increase by much if they did. We all wear shorts and shirts to practice in, and from my experiences fingers getting caught are not as high as it would seem. Typically when that does happen, kids are wearing more than 1 shirt and the shirts are getting bunched up. There are those exceptions where %'s could be higher like stated above where the shorts are below the knees of kids and I'm sure there are others, but over all from a majority standpoint, to me, injury beliefs shouldn't stop this from happening if this was to pass on the vote. I am not against this by any means, I am for either style of clothing, just trying to think from a large perspective on what would it actually accomplish? IMO I don't think the numbers would increase largely, rather maybe a possible slight increase. I don't think there would be much difference for the state of KY now compared to how the numbers have grown over the last 10 years and continue to grow. But like I said I could be totally wrong, as each area across the state/country is different.

Middle School State 2016 Potential Match Ups?

He said Key matches that people are excited to watch...... not many people want to see Cole beat on Darren again
  3. Definitely wouldn't call that a huge loss, both kids are great. That was a great match, best match I was able to watch at the tournament for sure. Both guys fended off takedowns in the last minute from each other. Man was it good. It will be good to see these two go at it again.

    New Wrestling Programs for 2016-2017

Crazy how many people think they can become division 1 athletes and get "full rides"...... If only it were that easy. Division 1 probability- straight from NCAA website.

    New Wrestling Programs for 2016-2017

Getting football coaches to "buy in" in today's time of single sport elite"ism" is killing all sports, at least in my opinion. Long gone are the days of multi sport athletes..... If you want to be highly successful that is.

    New Wrestling Programs for 2016-2017

Getting them to support wrestling combined with football would be the issue...... If they went in like they do with Football, no doubt. Considering how much support most teams get from Football; don't know how successful that would be.

The best way to support this now, come up with a better solution. How can we make it better? Help make sure no other young man or family has to go through this. And no, not just saying ref's can't over ride a dr. note..... that's not going to happen and there are waaaaaay to many variables to even think about allowing that. The ref is the last line of prevention for skin funk, this will not change. So how can we make it better? And since we have totally annihilated Ranger's rankings page. Maybe start a new thread with your ideas so the thousands of other families, coaches, and fans can input their ideas and thoughts as well, and we can leave this one be. The only thing positive that can come of this situation now is to help make it better.

As much as I disagreed with the name calling, I completely agree with it shouldn't be the officials decision, let alone the trainers. I would imagine 95% of the officials wouldn't want to make the calls either if it wasn't part of their responsibilities. Neither are dermatologists. In reality the issue is a state/national issue, and not just KY, it's in every state as this happens everywhere, at all age levels. Only at certain top tournaments do you see a Dr. on staff at the event. And even then, a regular MD isn't quite fully capable of making a good decisions, unless it is a Dermotologist. I have seen many family practice doctors make wrong calls, simply because it is something not very common for them. Is it part of the Ref's association requirements to go through a skin funk program? Some type of certification? Serious question here, because I do not know the answer. If not, maybe they should? This could help eliminate some types of these issues at the least. Knowledge, awareness, and experience helps all avenues here.

    State Duals

Makes sense, still somewhat transitioning from the Ohio to Kentucky differences on some things In Ohio OHSAA controls the state duals. Ran similarly but they do have a neutral site for the finals. As long as the schools have to host, this will most likely always be an issue. People complaining about travel, costs, etc... But for this to continue people have to take what is given. Some schools do not like hosting, some schools don't have the availability or the options to host, and these make it difficult to find the right venue of choice. This can easily be a tough process for the coaches association considering people want these duals to happen, yet the circumstances can be constricting.

    State Duals

What ever is best for the sport and these kids, agreed. The problem I see, if a neutral site was chosen (that was not a high school) then the KHSAA would have to rent the site, which would cost money, and most likely lose money in the end. Having high schools or in this case Lindsey Wilson hosting doesn't cost the association anything, therefore all is good in their eyes, and budget. I would think budget is the key for them, hence the horsepark. Bringing up this issue though as well as the horsepark definitely is a different topic and thread. Unfortunately until more revenue is created and the KHSAA believes we need a central neutral location it most likely will not happen. Even though we did not get in the duals this year, I am excited they are at our school, and can't wait to watch them. There will be some very good matches for sure.

    Region 3 Tourney Update

Evidently you are blinded by the rules and this blindness doesn't allow you to see what has been said multiple times. Hard to keep sitting back as you attack the "messenger" 1- situation is unfortunate and stinks. 10 people will give 10 different answers. 2- "This ref" had zero to do with it. As was stated before he was not the head ref and all 3 other refs made this decision before he got there. Those 3 refs felt so bad that they reviewed the situation again to gain another opinion, trust me these refs wanted him to wrestle, however rules are rules, and the final decision was upheld by the head ref, and tournament director. Again, final decision was from head ref and director, so please stop making yourself look foolish and barraging a guy that had only an opinion not a final determination. An opinion that multiple people agreed with. 3- head ref who made the final decision, was a CC guy...... Maybe you need to call for his head since ultimately it was up to him..... It sucks it really does however I would think some class would come out of those purple shirts instead of the name calling blame game at this point. I have been involved in the sport a very long time and this happens every year, in every state. This "ref" might not call pins fast enough, but he is the most honest person you will meet, and very knowledgable. It's unfair to keep up with the names.

    GMVA (Seeds)

Great tournament! Our KY boys are looking good. Brossart and Roth match was nail biting, came down to the last couple seconds where anything could have happened. Nice to see 2 Ky boys in the semi's together at such a good tournament. Crace from Graham is a super legit freshman. Yenter looked good, Craft is no joke from Northmont. Horton wrestled extremely well, also losing to Craft and the #2 seed. Ryno looked great, anytime you have a Graham kid man..... and Stickley is no exception. I believe Ryno handles the other Craft from Northmont and Ryno should have been in the finals vs. Stickley instead of the semi's, criteria can be a bugger. If Ranger can get Ryno to pull that trigger on a shot and offense, that match could easily have went the other way. One of the kids I'm most impressed with, Castellano. Man 2 big tourney's two finals appearances. Wrestled very well in both tournaments and I believe this guy will put himself into position to see himself in the finals come Feb. Zane Brown dominated all the way to the finals, falling to yet again another Graham boy. Erdman wrestled well, dropped a tough one to a top ranked Ryan Ford from Covington who is super tough. I think the loss woke him up and lit a fire under him, as he dominated and tech falled his next two opponents. Those 2 performances were eye opening, and those 2 performances are what puts you on top in Feb. If he continues to wrestle like that, look out. Mason wrestled amazing, Rocky Jordan is well.... another Jordan, and Graham kid lol. But Mason battled, and came back for 3rd. Demas gives you fireworks when he wrestles (if you have never had a chance to see Dom Demas wrestle, try to find some video, man......), arm spin to the back and inside leg trip put Rocky on his heels. But, Mason battled back and handled Regan in the 3/4th place match, Regan is ranked 7th in Ohio D1. Casey wrestled great. Beating #3 Ranked (@182) Draper and wrestling tough against arguably the best pound for pound in the country Marianelli. Marianelli pinned everyone except Casey, I think it was 15-7 score. Casey is definitely on a mission. Graziani wrestled tough getting 6th place. And Chandler from Male looked good. Losing to Frye who won the tournament and Smith of Xenia who is ranked 4th in Ohio Div. 1. For the most part a lot of our KY kids ended up running into Graham kids, and when you face one of the top teams in the country that can always be hard, but our kids battled and did great. Overall a great tourney and showing.

    SWOWCA

Correct, Mason has gone to the Dvorak invitational last year and this year. Can't say that I blame them, Dvorak is a good tourney. As much as I love SWOWCA, traveling to get different competition I think is huge for a team, especially when you will see all your local teams at other events. A lot of coaches gave Mason grief when they dropped SWOWCA two years ago, rightfully so considering they are one of if not the top team in the city, and this is a large local event for the whole tri state area. But on the other hand I totally understand why Coach Murnan made the call. Not to often can you get that type of quality event and learn from it. And if you're going to see each of the other teams, some teams multiple times through out the season, to me, going to Dvorak would be the right thing to do. I get both sides of that. There were quite a few scratches at weigh in's which is typical. Moe missing 3 of their studs definitely hurt them in the team race. Ward would have been a finalist, and entry alone would be justified to see the Ward/Sams match had it taken place. Curious if Ward was hurt, why was he drilling and going live with older brother Joey for 45 minutes prior to the start of the tourney on Sunday........ a little bird told me that those three were a little banged up, could have wrestled but were saving them for Cheesehead tourney over Xmas break. To give you an idea of how many wrestlers we were short..... Kapwrestling actually provides a time estimation for the event, based on all the matches lasting full 6 minutes. Prior to weigh ins we were supposed to be completed Saturday approx: 10pm. After weigh ins and brackets were created, the time changed to approx: 7:45. And I want to say we were done right about that time. Numbers are down all over for many many reasons. 2 teams dropped out before the event, 2 teams cancelled at the beginning of the season. They tried getting more teams to come, just didn't happen. I hope you are correct, and this is just a bump in the road........ one thing I have noticed over the years..... xmas break comes and more and more kids disappear for that break........ scary.....

What a good tournament! There were some very good matches this week. Walton wrestled very well, they are going to be a good tournament team with their 3 studs, and the other kids wrestled very well. Their HWY made a small mistake that probably cost him from placing. They will end up making noise this year for sure. 106- Brossart wrestled well, placing 4th. Both losses coming to Byrd from Lasalle. 113- Roth definitely got a bad call in the semi's. Had 2 takedowns taken away from him, one was definitely out of bounds, the 2nd was extremely questionable on why the ref didn't award the 2.... However, big match for him was coming back and beating Baird from Harrison! Baird was a returning state placer, big match there for Blake. Blake looked good for sure. Shay Horton also places 8th, beating some good kids. He actually had the Fairfield kid on his back twice, the second time he was stuck, have no clue what the ref was looking at. 120- Ryno was on a mission. Looks to finally be getting his legs back under him. I believe he had bonus points in all of his matches.... 126- Dante looked great. Beat a good kid in Ragle and Quinn to reach the finals. 138- Logan came out flat first match, wasn't prepared. Learned his lesson, kept his head up and came out and fought all the way back to 3rd. Revenged his lost first match in the finals with a dominate 8-0 win. 145- Mason wrestled very well. Craig from Elder is tough, not to mention well over 6 foot tall! Mason is tall for 145, and he was by far the shorter opponent in this match.... crazy.... However Mason is a stud on top, and he rode Craig out in the 2nd period and escaped in the 3rd, fended off some late period takedown attempts to walk off the mat with the 1-0 victory. Nice job here. 170- Casey wrestled very tough. Evans is no slouch. Got caught on that inside trip early in the 1st period and that was the difference maker. After that Evans couldn't produce again, but he has great hips, and Casey came close on a few really nice shots just couldn't secure the takedown. I would say if these two see each other again, that inside trip doesn't work and these two battle it out even more so than what they did yesterday. Walton finishes 10th with 11 wrestlers, Simon Kenton finishes 17 with 9 wrestlers, and Ryle finishes 22 with 7 wrestlers. The big issue like Otto stated..... wrestlers were WAAAAAY down this year. only 1 full team. 36 teams this year, they typically run around 40 teams. Here I thought it was just us this year, I see now it's all over, a lot of teams seem to be struggling with numbers, injuries, and illness.

My opinion- Brossart makes podium, hopefully gets his rematch with Byrd in Qtrs. Schupp is the real deal. Fuqua from Princeton is tough. Sleeper is non seeded Cam Baird, he has potential to be a bracket buster Roth gets good seed, not a lot of criteria for kids. Horton just lost to Glen Este kid by decision and was in the match 5-4, until last second desperation move. Cory Baird is legit. Sleeper if he is in this weight, Jordan Ward from Moe. Don't know if he is here or 120 Ryno gets 1 seed, Thiemann is long and well coached, but I see Ryno winning this. Nuener from Beavercreek is go big or go home wrestler, definitely not afraid of big moves but they can be costly as well. Sleeper Jabari Thomas Fairfield, if he is here. Peace and Dante will have their hands full at 126, no super stand outs except maybe Murphy, but a lot of good consistent kids. Shie and Huntley will be an exciting match, Walker Heard is a stud freshman too. Logan should see the finals, Marsh is a tough competitor too. But he def has the tough side, Buis is a Banger and doesn't stop, Sper is long and tough. Beck Thompson match will be good in Qtrs and I see Buis Marsh as the other side semi. With the winner seeing Logan in the finals. Mason sits good at #1. Smith (Glen Este) Meddings should be a good Qtr to get to Mason in the semi, an on point Mason gets the win to reach finals. Meddings won the first matchup with Smith opening week. Craig from Elder is tough, making the drop down from 152, tough kid, should be a good final. Ward and Sams should be a barn burner 160 I think the semi of Hinkle and Roth should be the final. Roth is tough, Hinkle returning placer. Roth just lost to Vestal last night 6-5! Vestal is returning state runner up. He also pinned Wilson last night in the other dual. Hinkle is super tough though. Oswald is good and will provide a good final if he makes it, imo though Hinkle Roth is the match to watch. Casey will def get some good matches this week. Goldfuss in the Qtrs will be a good start. Then Evans in the semis. Winner likely faces Bryant in the finals. 3 tough matches for casey, but winnable for sure. Sleeper is non seeded Michael Baker, Jr. High state champ, only been back for 1 week because of football, but can go with all these guys, I expect he should at least make podium. Meiman sitting at 1. Semi against Wyche or Sayers. Johnny will do what Johnny does and that's win. I don't know enough about the Bethel kid to give an accurate representation of how he will do. 195 should be interesting. Traub Stone and kemp are the top 3, Traub def the favorite. This is a weight where anything can happen. Bledsoe will be a sleeper if he is here, could be at 182. Like Baker at 170, Bledsoe is a Jr high state champ, absolute athlete, started for Lasalle football as a freshman winning state title. Only been back a week, but can go with these guys, just depends on what weight he is at. Also have Zeinner from Harrison, not seeded. 220&285 the Moe boys are the favorites, but like most big guys it's hard to predict. Anything can happen should be a great tourney. Teams: Moe, Elder, Fairfield, LaSalle, Marysville watch out for Harrison, Oak Hills, & Lakota West Walton is the top Ky team this weekend.
