    Football coaches Vs Wrestling.

Patriots’ Stephen Neal retires Posted by Michael David Smith on March 2, 2011, 6:15 PM EST Mike Wright, Stephen Neal Patriots guard Stephen Neal is calling it quits. Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com reports that Neal, the Patriots’ starting right guard, was listed as reserve/retired on the NFL’s official transaction wire today. That means the 34-year-old has officially filed the paperwork to leave the league. Neal contemplated retirement a year ago before signing a two-year deal to return to New England. But he missed half the season with a shoulder injury and has now apparently decided he doesn’t want to play anymore. So what’s next for Neal? It could be professional mixed martial arts. A year ago Neal said he was considering giving the UFC a try after he retired from the NFL, and Neal certainly has the athletic pedigree to do it. In addition to playing in the NFL, Neal was the NCAA heavyweight wrestling champion, and he beat Brock Lesnar, who’s now the UFC’s biggest star, in the NCAA final. Neal did not play football in college, but the Patriots liked the athleticism he showed on the wrestling mat and thought he had potential, so they signed him in 2001. He played in 86 games in 10 NFL seasons, starting 81.

    6A schools without wrestling.

He said there wasn't enough gym space, title IX, etc.....Anytime we would do what they said we had to, we did. We played the game. They just didn't give us a chance. They basically got rid of us, because the AD did not want any part of it....>We funded ourselves and provided our own transportation.....By the way, they have something like 7 basketball teams, multiple cheer teams, and even JROTC that purchased a place at the school....... They allowed us to have one tournament at the high school...... It was a downer on that end, but I wouldn't have traded my time coaching those kids for anything.....All the old coaches feel that way.....It was a great time.....Sad to see wrestling go there....

    6A schools without wrestling.

Henderson County actually tried to rebuild their program a few years back. I was an assistant coach on that staff. Between no funding from the school, finding gyms to practice, doing a lot of fundraisers, etc., It was hard enough to keep the team going. The thing that killed us was the athletic director. He did not and will never allow a wrestling team at Henderson County. After a couple of decent seasons, we were told that we could operate as a club team. We could go to every tournament except regional and state. It always seemed like an uphill battle. The middle school programs were backed well, but they just don't want it in the high school.......Sad, very sad....One of our former wrestlers is wrestling in the National NAIA Wrestling tournament in a little over a week....
  5. Bryce Alexander beat the num. 6 ranked guy in the nation today at the college regional tourney. He lost by one in the semis. Placed four after a medical default in the consolation finals. In two weeks hell be wrestling at the naia national tourney as a freshman. I think a congratulations is in order....This is a wrestler that Kentucky produced. Just thought I would let everybody know...Does anyone else know of any KY wrestlers that will be wrestling in college nationals? Lets get a good list going.....Its great to see former ky high school kids succeed.....I think the quality just keeps improving every year.....

You get less advancement points for advancing in the losers bracket. Yes, he could wrestle back, but he could also lose. Any team that has a top five ranked kid that loses in the first round would be a big blow to their team. (Confidence and such) Not saying he can't come back and take third. I don't even know the kid. I don't wish him to lose. However, there is little room for error at the top. Trinity, Ryle, Union, and Larue should not be separated by a whole lot.....That is all I was saying......no need to get defensive.....lol
