    NEW PROGRAMS OR COACHING CHANGES

Heard that Dave Barnes isn't at Walton Verona any longer. If this is true, I wonder if there are plans on him starting another program somewhere else. Where will Walton go from here?
  2. Has there been any word on New programs starting up this year and any new coaching changes?

    State tournament time table

This is slap in the face. The high school wrestling medals and awards are horrible, really how much are they saving? Now this! These wrestlers deserve to have their moment on one mat, center stage period. The middle school wrestling association runs circles around these guys! I vote to put Jason Moore and John Roth in charge of the high school tournament! They surely have gotten it right with the middle school kids!

    TEAMS and COACHES

I agree with all the above. Woodlands coach has done a good job with talent he has. Has put Woodland on the map in Northern Ky. Walton, coach roth has done great job with a program that has only been around for 4-6 years. A team that has a good shot at winning it all. Pretty impressive. Taylor Co. a new program that is climbing the ladder fast.

Toughest weight class in each region?

Been sitting back and watching wrestling this season vs posting on this thread. But have to throw in my 2 cents on this. 70 also looks to be one of toughest classes in the state. Since I'm from NKY, haven't seen much around the state. But the McCormik kid from Twenhofel is very good. I think he has a great shot of winning it all. 75 WOW....this class could go to a bunch of different kids. But I think the favorite here is Brown. Kid is tough. But the Decker and Pye kid are solid. Close your eyes on this weight class and you might miss something. 80 toss up here with Horton and Adams. I'll go with Horton. 86 I think Tucker is the favorite here. But there are several kids in this class that will make some noise. 92 Going with Roth here. Watched him earlier in the season and he is at a whole other level then his competition. Kid is tough! He makes it to the finals I think that will be 4 years in a row in the State Finals. He wins it, I say he is MOW! 98 Another crazy class. Bender/Ervin/Kraezig. Anyone of these kids could win this class. All very good wrestlers. I heard Bender has been wrestling very well, but I'm going to go with Kraezig. 105 Match up here will be Moore and Brown. Both great wrestlers. Going with Moore, he looks solid and very strong. 113 Smith and Whorton match up here. Smith has been wrestling very well. This class isn't that deep so I think these two get to the finals with Smith winning. 121 Gray is tough, I think he is the favorite here. Hammond is a strong kid and looks very good. Copenhaver is tough. This could be a toss up on who wins this class. 130 Johnson wins this class. He is to much for anyone else here. Could also be an MOW candidate. 140 Don't know much about this weight but I heard Gamble is crushing kids. I'm going with Gamble here. 152 ? I don't know what kids are here. 168 Denny is a kid I've a lot about. 190 ? Same as 152, just don't know! 240 Wheeler from Twenhofel wins this weight hands down. Just my 2 cents!
  6. I was wondering if anyone knew what the requirements were for someone to coach sports in high school or even at the middle school level? At one time you needed to have so many college credit hours or even be a teacher. Does this still stand? I had heard that a few years back they were trying to pass a "BILL" to lift such requirements. Can someone share what the current state guidelines are inorder to coach sports? Thanks!
  7. Even if nothing changes. You may have schools and their adminstrations think they now have to make their club programs be school sports. This could effect a lot of things for a club program, especially the funding part of it. They might make these club teams school teams but with limitations on where these teams can go and what tournaments they can get it due to cost. I see this as a problem if you are trying to make your wrestlers and your program better.
  8. Is the KHSAA going to take over the State Tournament, Districts and Regionals? If so, will KHSAA let club teams in the post season tournaments? If a club team feeds a high school, and the KHSAA says they now have to be a school sport to participate under KHSAA, what if that school doesn't want to make that club team a school sport. They may not want to take on the extra expense to have another school sport. So now you have a club team that may fold. Or you will end up having a bunch of school teams convert over to club teams to participate in the KSWA State Tournament. Thats another issue, will there be two different state tournaments. Will KHSAA purchase state finalist singlets for the kids or give them very nice awards like the KSWA does?
  9. I think this will hurt, "NOT HELP" youth and middle school wrestling. I bet we start losing programs!

Covington Catholic to start Wrestling in 2013

Coach Johnson is assistant Coach at Ryle. He pretty much over sees the schedule and running the Rumble tournament. He only had 1 Head Coaching position and it was 1 year at Cooper High School when Dave Barnes left to take the Walton job. Coach Johnson will be a great fit at Cov Cath, if thats the direction they are going. Coach Johnson will surround himself with the right guys and I'm sure he'll put Cov Cath on the map in years to come. I wish him well.

    Lawson Brothers

How are they "twins" with different ages? Disregard my last post. Thought they were referring to the TWO HAMMER Lawson boys. lol

    Lawson Brothers

I was told by a Graham parent, last year, that the Lawson boys were going to move to KY to wrestle High School, then move back after the season was over. This was already preplanned. Was told by a very reliable sourse from within the Graham Circle this was going to happen. It is what it is. Several Ohio kids have made this move to KY to try to capture a High School title. Well all that have made the move to KY have come up short. Lawson boys and Mark Hall. To set the record straight, all of these kids are outstanding wrestlers. Not taking anything away from that. I wish them well and hope things work out for them back at Graham. The Boston kid is a stud! I thought he placed at Super 32 this past year.

Who are some of KY's Best Coaches

Walton Verona has a solid group of Coaches from the high school to the middle school. Most of the coaches have wrestled in college. Moeller in high school he won the Ironman and Poweraid Bill Peace wrestled in college, from Batavia Ohio John Roth, Andy Mulcahy and Stann Martin all wrestled in college. Pretty solid group.

WHS98, I think you misunderstood. It looks to me like all KYCoach was doing was correcting kyhere who made the statment there were 9 pins.
