I think you are forgetting about Austin Cook from St.X at 113. I'm not saying he will win but should place. He is a returning state placer I believe. He has already pinned Shultz this year. I believe his only KY losses at 113 are to the top 4 ranked guys Vega, Moore, Hurst, and Wells. I also don't think Castellano or Wells finish above Hurst unless it is due to the draw. I would be surprised if either of those guys beat Hurst.

I think the person who has made the biggest jump in rankings in probably Zane Brown from Male. He started preseason ranked 20th and is now 3rd. That is impressive for an 8th grader! -

I was just asking if they had wrestled again and Yenter had beaten him since you said he should be ranked #1. I was not knocking anyone just asking a simple question. I don't see every match at every tournament every week and track is not always up to date. -

Has Yenter beaten Tylan Tucker this year?? I know he lost to him at Bryan Station Duals this year. -
I wasn't aware that Vega and Hurst had wrestled this year. Does anyone know the outcome of that match?

When the first thing you say to kid your kid every morning is Did you check your weight? When your 2 year old starts stripping down everytime she walks by the scale because she sees her big brother do it. -
The joke is coming on a public forum and trashing your own coaches and event. If you have an issue be respectful and adult enough to have a discussion with the individuals involved. Openly airing your dirty laundry makes the entire program look bad. Why any parent would want to publicly tarnish your program's reputation is beyond me! But since apparently the original poster feels it needs to be handled publicly, let's add some facts to the discussion. 20 wrestlers were listed on CC purple team roster -12 of those wrestlers attend elementary school(K-5). - At this point, they are eligible for any youth tournament anywhere. They are YOUTH wrestlers! -Of the other 8, 4 of those are 1st year wrestlers and 2 of those only have 2 years experience. -Of the 8 wrestlers who ARE NOT youth wrestlers, only 2 of those wrestler competed in the Middle School Duals on Satruday. Both are 6th graders.
-
Here is the eligibility statement listed on Northern KY's youth region handout. ELGIBILITY: All entries must have a current, valid USA Wrestling card. Must be 12 years old or under as of 1/1/14. All entries must have

The rules and restrictions for this event are the same that will apply to the youth region and state events. You wiil see many of these wrestlers in the youth region and state events. The only exception is that wrestlers who place top 4 at middle school state are not eligible to participate. Only 3 of CC wrestlers that participated today even qualified for the MS state tournament and 2 of those 3 are 5th graders. The other wrestler that qualified for MS state that participated today was a 6th grader.

"Coach Matney watched it and said they were nothing wrong with the way Blue was setup at all. Said the ref blew the call" Would you and coach Matney also like to blame the ref for the fact that Blue gave up a point because he didn't have his mouthpiece or will you take responsibility for that one?

"But when all these by laws and rules are put into place whatever is best suited for NKy is what is passed. Its a numbers game, and you guys have the numbers." Maybe instead of complaining about the NKy coaches who are active participants and working hard to improve this sport for all wrestlers, you should be complaining about the coaches who don't bother to show up at the state meetings and then want to complain about the decisions that were made there. The state meetings are open to all coaches. The dates and times are routinely posted on this site. Every coach has the opportunity to attend and share their opinions and vote on the issues at hand. The meetings are generally held in a central location as to be more convenient to more coaches. The NKy coaches are not the only coaches there. Many of the Jefferson County and surrounding area coaches are there, along with other coaches from around the state. These coaches are giving up their time to discuss the issues and try to do what is best for the kids and the sport. Every team represented there gets the same right to voice their opinion and vote. You may not know this but coaches are also allowed to mail in their votes if they are unable to attend the meeting. So every coach in this state has the opportunity to vote on all issues. If coaches don't bother to attend or mail in their votes, they have NO right to complain. On a side note, a wise coach once told by son, "if you allow a ref to decide a match for you, you have no one to blame for the loss but yourself."

March 30 is a Saturday. Were they talking of changing the date to a Sunday?

If you're referring to the Jayce Carr discussion, sarcastic or not you should not ignore the facts.
-
In 2004, Jayce placed 3rd at MS state wrestling for Campbell County.
-
I think it also stifles growth of the sport because moms and little sisters do not want to sit in a gym for 12 hours every Saturday from late October through February. For that matter, I don't want to either and wrestling is a passion of mine.

But with high schoolers, you only have one wrestler per weight class for districts. Some middle school teams have three or four wrestlers per weight class which creates a lot more paper work. Also high school has set weight classes across the nation. Many middle school programs travel to different states with different weight classes so the paperwork becomes a lot more confusing.

Youth Holiday Classic - 12/16/12
marriedtothemat replied to Submit only to Jesus's topic in Youth Wrestling
Actually in an open each child is only guaranteed to wrestle twice. You lose 2 your out. Duals offer a guaranteed number of matches. I think it is important for wrestlers to experience both type of events in order to prepare them for high school. They are plenty of open tournaments throughout the year that can be entered if one chooses. -

Kyor74, I'm a little confused. In one post you say USA events give EVERY kid the opportunity to wrestle Every weekend and in your next post you say making kids wrestle every weekend before they have hit maturity is tough. so are you wanting every kid to be able to wrestle every weekend or not? Since you made a comment about middle school wrestling and both my sons now wrestle middle school I will focus on that. On my sons' team, spots are determined by wrestle-offs, no politics involved. A kid is never forced to wrestle at an event by a coach. They are free to opt out of wrestles off and competition as they and/or their parents see fit. Every kid is wrestling almost every weekend, even with some weights 5 kids deep. Many tournaments allow coaches to enter extra kids, we host some of our own events which allow every kid to wrestle, and duals allow for the coaches to make adjustments so that every kid sees mat time. I also love the team aspect of middle school wrestling. As youth, my kids never really felt like part of the team because different age groups were at events at different times and many of the events divided the mats into two gyms. They didn't have the opportunity to support their teammates because everyone was divided up. Duals allow every kid to feel like a member of a team. We win as a team and we lose as a team. Every kid works hard in the practice room and contributes what they can to the team. Our champions wouldn't be champions without the hard work of everyone in the practice room. So when we win a dual everyone is a winner and everyone is treated equally. To see the kid that rarely wins a match face light up when he receives a team trophy is amazing. Duals are my favorite part of the regular season. It gets all the kids and parents involved in supporting their team. It would be a shame for kids to miss out on the importance of being part of a team and wearing that team singlet with pride. Off season events are the time for kids to wear their own singlets and participate in any event they choose. -

2012 State Tournament (set weight classes)

Even using the the current format, there are still some brackets with less than 6 kids. How many brackets had less than 6 kids at last years state tournament?
