    Middle State Surpises or Shockers

Walker Keaton at 140, didn't get to wrestle due to knee injury, dominated State Champ Coleman at District and Region taking first, both times. Too bad he didn't get to wrestle and become the state champ as well.

2010 KSWA State Tournament: Re-Schedule Plan

No, you wouldnt life would be a utopia in middle school wrestling and besides im not fanatic enough to be interested in such a position, but as it stands right now we are in the same boat we were on the 6th, we have a date and still looking for a place to have it, what happens if they cant find another place again, another reschedule. Classic case here of getting the cart before the horse. Im not saying such things are easy but they do require communication, preparation, planning and good ole common sense.

2010 KSWA State Tournament: Re-Schedule Plan

The great thing about this country we live in is we are free to express our gripes, complaints, cries, whines and opinions. I for one do not need my son to win me a championship. I have had my successes and am content with them. As for the tourney being canceled I felt it was a hasty decision and it revealed the lack of planning and preparation involved on the part of the kyswa. My jr isnt wrestling because dad was a goo and I am living my life vicariously through him. He is wrestling because he said dad I want to try wrestling and I said ok. He doesnt cut weight he wrestles at his normal everyday walking around weight because he is good enough to do so. And as my jr pointed out the other day when we found out the tourney had been rescheduled, thats good but its not a big deal. If he were in Ohio, Michigan or Minnesota it would mean more because its just kentucky wrestling. To me that is problematic for the future of wrestling in this state. Again, i am not a goo but I am from ky and would like to see our state and our people recognized for as many things as possible. Poor planning and communication on the part of the middle school association is problematic. It is these early years when the foundation for a sport is built, if it is weak, then the building will crumble. Not knowing where the event will be held is more a complaint about lack of communication and planning. People also need to know so they can make work, travel, child care and other arrangements. I am a flexible person used to dealing with such abrupt and ever changing situations, but other may not. I want to see wrestling excel in ky and we are laying a weak foundation for it at the middle school level with situations such as this. The second site doesnt have to be a basketball gym, it could be any other venue capable of handling the event and the participants involved. Again, preparation and planning would have eliminated this problem. I do agree that parents and fans are a problem, but i have seen it just as much at the high school level as at the middle school level. Complaining from the middle school level is again due to a lack of communication, preparation and planning. Most of the parent problems are goos trying to live their lives vicariously through their kids, its very easy to see at the meets. My opinion and hope things change to make the kids' futures better.

2010 KSWA State Tournament: Re-Schedule Plan

Obviously you know nothing about me. I have made my living and career out of planning and responding to much, much bigger and in the grand scheme of things important events than this and every event I have been involved with there is a plan, and a plan for when things go wrong. Obviously, you are clueless in the basics of reading comprehension and communication, listening being the most important part of that process. My complaint was the LACK OF COMMUNICATION on the part of the kyswa. I did not learn that the event was rescheduled from the kyswa, my son, or his coach. I learned it from a post on this site. I have thought all year it was the fault of my son or his coach for not keeping parents informed as to what was going on, but I have learned through this process it was neither. As far as it taking time to pull this off, if an alternate plan would have been in place, then there would be no need for people to be up in arms about any of this. Most normal people stress small issues such as have arisen here, I am relaxed. I am also offering my opinion about the lack of planning and communication in this whole conglomerate of a process.

2010 KSWA State Tournament: Re-Schedule Plan

here goes the lack of communication again, but at least it has been rescheduled and the kids get to compete. it would be nice to know where so travel arrangements can be made. im glad this will be my sons last year in middle school wrestling, very disorganized and secretive.

    What if....

my sentiments exactly sprawl, this is my 8th grade sons first year wrestling, won his district, won his region, was hoping to compete for a state championship. he was hoping to also compete with the high school team. now he is watching basketball on tv wondering if this being his only chance at a middle school state title will ever be a reality. all he has talked about all year is being a middle school state champion. looks like thats all he will get to do is talk about it.

MS State is cancelled for tomorrow Feb. 6th

just curious what kind of weather the great storm of February 2010 brought upon etown i could scrape up all the snow in my county into a pile and not come up with 2 inches.

MS State is cancelled for tomorrow Feb. 6th

ive been involved in much bigger events than this and there is always a contingency plan for whatever may happen. communication is the key. there is no reason a weather forecast that was given five days ago was not taken into consideration and a back up plan devised. this is my first year of involvement with middle school wrestling and am glad it will be my last because this is how it has been all year. our coach doesnt get information until the last minute. very disorganized bunch of folks. i just drove half way across the state in nothing more than a drizzle of rain and in some areas not even that. reading some of the posts on this and other sites really clears a lot of things up and raises questions in others. chhs gets to keep all the concessions and half the gate? thats a really good deal for them, seems the wealth should be shared in other venues, independent venues since this is an independent run organization and there are clubs that have no school affiliations. i understand the decision to cancel is for safety and liability and blah blah blah and it was this board or that superintendents decision, but the bottom line is poor planning and communication, glad i didnt drive all the way to etown and check into my room cause im sure i could find a lawyer to take that lawsuit for making me drive all the way there for no reason and help me recoup my financial losses and the anguish of travel i would have incurred. im surprised we even have these tournaments and competition anyway because somebody has to lose and the prevailing thought in society is that is negative, we cant have losers everyone must be a winner. im just glad to see some of us in society have not fallen into this pansy attitude.

    Snow

if the school districts are worried about liability they should cancel all sporting events because anybody could get hurt on their facilites anytime. im not saying they shouldnt be weary of liability in this million dollar cup of coffee society, but the way to resolve this is to have it someplace where some crackpot school superintendent does not have control over what happens.

    state champs

my prediction is nobody will win state this year due to the weather

    Snow

no its not rocket science but im sure a wet sidewalk and parking lot wont hurt anything, i for one wont melt. cant believe they have such great wrestling in places like michigan, minnesota and iowa where they get real snow, if they operated by kentucky standards they would never get to compete.

ive got the fix dont hold events in hardin county anymore. in these financial times im sure the hotels will be happy to lose all that money, except for those that have to pay anyway. i for one am not scared to drive in the rain.

    MS State Cancelled

this figures i set my work schedule to be off this weekend, have all our bags packed, have hotel reservations and they cancel the event because of rain. i think we should all send our hotel bills to the hardin county superintendent and highly suggest any wrestling events never be scheduled for their area again.

We are failing youth wrestling programs!

i think we are cheating our youth and killing the parents by not having a better system in place in case of inclimate weather. its not fair to the kids or the teams that have worked hard all year and then dont get to compete because of decisions by their school systems, yet the show goes on and those that make it there get to call them champions and winners of a tournament that was not full of all the qualified competitors. further more my son is a first year wrestler and it takes a lot of time, work and committment on the part of the kid and parents to make it through the season. if i travel half way across the state for a tournament, spend the night in a hotel in a place that i would never have visited in the first place then the tournament gets canceled because of weather i am not going to be happy, and it is ridiculous. lack of planning and organization makes it miserable for all.
