GOO - I like this option the best, as well. One question - do you push the season back a week (which I would perfer) or chop a week off? Starting the season earlier really puts the Football players at a disadvantage.

How are the officals picked for the State Tournament? Is there any type of criteria or vote?

"Fan" Thank You for the comments and I will let him know what you said.

I'm really not trying to fan the flames on this - BUT - my son has wrestled at 182 & 170 & 160 this year and I believe if you look at the entire 32 or the top 10 for each weight class, the 170 lb class is tougher AS A WHOLE. But I also believe that the 160 lb Champ (to be crowned) could beat the 170 lb Champ (to be crowned) based on skill and speed. As for OW - WHO CARES! the goal of any wrestler should be to become a STATE CHAMPION. Why worry about an award that has NO SET CRITERIA for who the winner should be?

What's the norm for Senior Night ?
Act Like Youve Been There replied to fanofwrestling6's topic in 2013 Season
Conner does a Senior night so we would be glad to "have him" next year, (even though he beat my son by a point this year)! They do a very nice job with it. I think they should be honored for all the time and effort the wrestler and the parents have made over the years. Unfortunately, this year's event did not happen because wrestling was cancelled last Saturday. -
You got it!

For Region 5 it say's - "This information is not being released to the Public yet".
-
Is seeding based soley on record if two wrestlers have not competed against each other? Is how they placed at Regionals or State last year a factor?

Wrestling begins at 10:00am.

Possumdaddy: You are correct - Courtney pinned him with 11 seconds to go in the match. Prior to that the score was 4-1. -
Love when 2 NKY kids reach the finals in Indiana
Act Like Youve Been There replied to fanofwrestling6's topic in 2013 Season
Congratulations to Jones. He wrestled hard and smart. He deserved to win that match. Conner's light weight (138) was J. Brandstetter. Thompson looks good at the 195 weight, he was giving up too may pounds at 220. -
Well based on my "Screen Name" you know my opinion. I prefer a simple fist pump, point to your group in the stands, then go jump in your coaches arms. If you want to do the "Lexington Leap" and go act like a fool "in the stands" go right ahead. You are no longer on the mat and at that point you are not disrespecting your opponent.

Hopefully those festivities will NOT be allowed. If everyone wants the sport of Wrestling to be respected in Kentucky, the "Animal House" behavior needs to be eliminated! Let's focus on the athletes out on the Mats and not the children up in the stands. Go to any other State and watch thier finals and you will see the fans are there for one purpose. To watch quality wrestling.

Has anyone heard how Jacob Clark of Simon Kenton is doing? Tough to see that happen (an injury) to a good wrestler in the finals.

Grant County is the school you are missing.

GOO I don't think Walton is a very good example for this discussion. No disrespect to the program or the coaches but they did/do rely heavily on the "Big Schools" for some of their wrestlers. Eventually, (10+ years) I think a split will be needed but not until one or two Big Schools completely dominate the state tournament year after year. Didn't see that this year.

WHS98 - you talk about others belittling your son but go on to say his match sickend you and you would want your money back? Also, in another post his options are to shut his mouth, train harder or quit? Those words from a father will be much most devastating to the young man than any stranger from NKY. Last Saturday, he got beat by someone who was better (on that day) nothing more nothing less. I don't believe KYCoach was doing anything more than congratulating Wiley for wrestling his best match of the year at the right moment. He was also having a little fun with his skill at picking the winners BASED mainly on the fact that he saw the NKY almost every weekend. While I did strongly challenge (disagree and/or hate) some of his calls on the mat this year - I absolutely agree with his intention to congratulate a wrestler who deserved it. I was lucky enough to have a son stand at the top of the podium last Saturday. I can assure you that if he got beat 15-0 in the finals I would still have been PROUD not sickened. These boys are 11-14 years old not paid professional athletes. AJ - if you do read these don't quit - take that horrible feeling in the pit of your stomach and draw on it as motivation next year whenever you need some extra strength to keep going. Wrestling is a very humbling sport but teaches many wonderfull life lessons .

Eville dad - that sounds like a great idea! Wildblueeyes - I can tell the difference based on two observations: The type of camera that a "photographer" typically uses and most "photographer's" are not talented enough to scream at of their lungs, slap the mat and take professional photo's. See everyone this weekend! -

REFDAD - I read back through your posts and would would like to use this one as an example of what I am trying to convey. REFDAD#252 "Last year I went to Lakewood St Eds vs St paris Grahm dual. Ranked #1 and #3 in the nation at the time. Yes nation, not state. The coaches as well as wrestlers acted with class. I am talking about kids nationally ranked loosing. That dosent happen often , but they still acted like young men. The fans of course go crazy but I never saw any flipping the bird or cursing the other team. I hope we can follow this example and set an example for our kids to win and loose with class. Wrestle and cheer and coach your guts out but win or loose go shake the other guys hand, and train harder for the next time." I'm not saying that Ohio is perfect just that I have not personally witnessed this behavior in Ohio. We wrestled last spring in Columbus at OSU and it was a wonderful experience for the wrestlers and the fans. Furthermore, I am not implying that the term "Hillbilly" wrestling can only be applied to people from Kentucky. Like you I am only saying that the parents and coaches should "set an example for our kids" and show some class. -

KY Coach - I could not agree more! I wrestled in HS & College and coached HS wrestling in Northern Ohio. Then I was out of the sport for 20 years until my boys decided they wanted to wrestle 4 years ago. This is something I noticed about Kentucky wrestling - I am appalled at the way parents crowd the mat and scream at the wrestlers. Just because you own a camera does not give you the god-given right to be on the mat. Everyone belongs in the stands. Nothing makes me more furious than to see a wrestler on his back with parents and teammates slapping the mat right beside them. It is "HillBilly" wrestling at it's finest. Why coaches allow their team to sit at or on the mat astounds me. Do you really want each of them giving instructions to your wrestler during the match? There is one NKY teams that "Always" has the entire team lay on the mat even if they are "in the way" of the coaches and wrestlers getting ready to compete. On a positive note Harrison County "roped off" the mats and most people stayed away (except for that team I was referring to earlier). It made it look like a real wrestling meet and not the typical "cock-fight" setting I normally have to endure. So parents stay in the stands, teammates sit beside them and cheer as loud as you possibly can. It will be a better experience for everyone involved! Sorry one last item - Coaches why do you feel that you have to follow your wrestlers all the way around the mat? Are they that poorly coached that you have to always be within 2 feet of them to tell them what to do? Do a better job of preparing them during the week and you can sit back and watch them as THEY compete. In the "Old Days" in Ohio, they took away team points if you did not sit in the chair the entire time. -
