Kentuckywrestling.com 2010 State Tournament Rankings - February 16
glenda replied to Ranger123's topic in High School Rankings
I'm not offended by it. It just sounds like an excuse. I don't think anyone reallycake-walks to state. Qualifying for state is pretty much an individual thing and the top 4 go - regardless of what team you're on. Like Hardy Hendren from Kentucky Country Day that is literally a one-man team, practices with ST.X (a real class act on their part), won the 5th Region at 152 and went to state and got 7th place. Alone he tied two other schools on team points and beat 20 others. He had a lot more reasons than anyone I can think of not to be a successful wrestler. My point was only that blaming your results on your region,or your team, coach or girlfriend for that matter won't go very far in making you successful - at wrestling or in life. -

That type of logic may make a person feel better about themselves, but it won't help them win state. -
I said McCauley was "unnoticed" - actually he has been ranked #7-#5 recently. But I don't think he's been in the conversation much lately. I overheard a Manual parent stop and ask a Trinity parent who he was after he beat Broussard in the semis. They said that wasn't the same 160 they had seen for Trinity previously, but Erin had been out with an injury.
-
I'd have to add Trinity's 160 Erin McCauley to that list after beating #3 Broussard of Seneca and #1 Lampe of St.X last night in the Region 4 Tournament. I suppose he won't be unnoticed now.
-
Whatever it was looks like he's healthy now.
-
Man, do you have a crystal ball, or what??
-
And then McCauley pinned Lampe of St. X in the finals and got MOW. Not bad, knocking off the #1 and #3 160's in one evening. And I think this is just his 2nd tournament back in action after an injury.

OK , I'm not a big detail person and I didn't write anything down. I was there to watch THS so all I know is how their kids did in the finals. Sorry, but this is all I have. Fahy won 112, 119 Myron Bradbury over Kaelin OC, 125 Carr JC over Brandon Birk, 130 Brent Hitchings won, 135 Rusch NO over Ausden Pender, 140 Jacob Smith got 4th, 145 Grant Ohlmann won, 160 Jude JC over Erin McCauley, 171 Brad Hitchings won, 189 Cooper Bohn over Greene JT, 215 Brendan Darrow won, 285 Harlow JC won. Teams: 1st Trinity, 2nd Johnson Central, 3rd South Oldham.

I believe 32 is a power of 4, and that's what they used. I agree it would have been less confusing to follow the brackets for each class if they used the smallest bracket possible (that was a power of 4 of course) without the byes/double byes. But trying to coordinate 14 classes each on their own schedule throughout the day and into the finals would have been tough. Some smaller classes would have finished several hours before some others and would have a huge wait before the finals. With every class on a 32 man bracket, at least they were all basically on the same round into the finals.
-
Only thing is, this was not a "Regional Tournament". Great job to North Oldham!! Some good wrestling on a nasty day with some great matchups in the finals. I know the teams there are glad they were not idle for a second straight week before Region.

145 1.Korey Shotwell 2.Terrance Demery 3.Matt Slone 4.Joe Whalen 5.Cole Proctor 6. TJ Bates So you don't think Grant Ohlmann's in the top six this year after finishing 2nd last year ?? Thanks for getting him fired up for the rest of the year!

Trinity was at the Harrison 10-way Duals and the Mater Dei Holiday Classic, both in Evansville. That's a bunch of Indiana teams they've faced this year besides Jeff. They did pretty well at both. Fahy didn't wrestle at either event. Or at the Dragon Inv. Seems to me to be more focused on developing himself than contributing to his team. That's my opinion. But I guess wrestling is more of an individual sport than a team sport - except at duals and maybe at state. Fahy is regarded lately by many as invincable, but I'm not sure he can beat Bradbury to win the 119 spot for THS if he wanted too. Again, my opinion. But Fahy,Bradbury,Hitchings and Ohlmann have all done/would do well in Indiana. They've already proven that this year by finishing 1st at Mater Dei (except for Fahy).

So Olympic_wish - you think everybody above 160 pretty much sucks? I'm sure they'll be glad to know what you think.
-
Yep, that's what i meant.
-
I beleive in the past they usually start with the freshmen dual, then the JV and then the Varsity. It's also Senior Night for Trinity's Seniors.
-
Which individual wrestlers went 5-0 for the day?
-
Anyone know the team scores? They didn't anounce any scores at the meet for some reason.
-
145.
-
Trinity won at 112,119,130,145,171,189,215. I think the final team score was 36-32 Jeff.
-
I'll go with Broussard over Lampe. Cooper Bohn won't be at this one for Trinity.
