I haven't posted or been on this forum in years since my son graduated but i came for regional brackets and this thread caught my attention. My wife is a middle school teacher and the staff asked the students for suggestions of careers that they would like to hear about on Career Day. In the Top Ten was...... UFC Fighter. Yes, you read that right. IN THE TOP TEN - UFC FIGHTER!!! My wife is actually trying to contact some former UFC fighters in Cincinnati to come speak. I think moving to MMA fight shorts and rashguards could help get more kids interested, both as spectators and wrestlers.

Yes that really looks like a committee of people who would like to "kill wrestling." <sarcasm>

i heard a coach say to a young ref in the hospitality room "There's the cheatin' ref!" and proceed to harangue him for 5 minutes. That ref is a first year ref but he wrestled for 10 years so he knows what he is seeing as much as anybody could. I really doubt the ref had any agenda to cheat anybody. Another reason it is hard to keep refs.

Oh the irony! If there is no state tournament this year, then there is no 4 time undefeated high school state champ at 220...
-
Mpire you may be thinking of Scott High School, rather than Scott County High School. I think Scott High is up there around your area.

Franklin County will be #2 behind Woodford.

But Clay is ranked number 2 and he's just a "decent wrestler?"
-
I got confused. I was thinking about Lopez. Who I don't think is wrestling this year.
-
Carr vs Clay. Those guys have battled for years, and now it is their senior year. I saw Clay wrestle today. He has man strength now.

Good camp here. The college wrestlers are running the camp and doing a great job!

I have met Mpire once and he's a nice, laid back guy. That's all I have to say about WHS98's post. -
LOL, I know which mom you are talking about!
-
Yeah I think it is a combination of all these factors, so I wanted to throw parents in as well. Woodford County comes to mind. They always have lots of parents involved.
-
Parents. The top teams always have a lot of parents in attendance at meets.

Mpire you have hit the nail on the head here. At these open mats we go to, there is a lot of laughing and joking. Have fun, sure, but I know that when I am laughing, I can't lift as much weight, etc.

Danville 4/28 USA Tourn and Jeff Jordan Clinic
Notfromhere replied to Danville1980's topic in 2012 Season
We can't make it Saturday but can we come just for the Sunday clinic sessions? -
We are in a poor school district, lots of single parent families. A lot of kids don't have much money to spend. I know fewer kids have had money for a USA wrestling card and for summer tournaments the last few years. We have had to use more booster money than in the past to make sure the kids are fed on Saturdays. Also, costs are going up. Referees fees went up this year. We bring a lot of food to the tournaments too because healthy food is not available at most sites. Kids still spend plenty of money on the junk sold at concession stands.

Let's talk on Sunday about you coming down to Franklin Co and doing a clinic. We have sleds, tires, etc. i don't think you would need to bring much. -
Man that was great! Thanks for having us. That sled put a whoopin' on them! We will try to bring some more Franklin County kids with us next week. I was very impressed with Stephen and Austin (and Joe.) Nice young men and great attitudes!
-
A lot of wrestlers are also track stars, so Saturdays could be tough with track meets. Have you decided a start date yet? Thanks!
-
That's great stuff Mpire thanks! Now the pie filling goo.... is that for putting on weight or for energy?
-
March 3rd is the Mason-Dixon Games Track Meet in Louisville. A lot of wrestlers will be there sprinting, jumping and throwing!
-
I'm sure the coach will be a teacher with a boat in most cases. However, a pontoon boat can be had for cheap.
